I bought two of these for my twins (they normally don't match things but both loved these colors best!) and it's been a great purchase so far. Fits everything they need for school with room to spare. They say it is very comfortable and they seem to like the additional chest strap. And easy visibility is always a plus as a parent!

This backpack is well made, but a little smaller than a normal backpack. It's perfect for children in elementary who don't carry a lot of books around, but would be too small for preteens and older.

Love love this backpack for our kindergartener. Our third grader used this same style for 3 years (until he left it at the park and we never got it back), and it held up great! Other backpacks that we've purchased don't hold up like the North Face Recon. Quality pack for our kids! Thank you NF!!!

Grey is 2 and this is just the perfect size for going to grandma's house. Unless, he packs up all of his dinosaurs and then it gets a little heavy.

Brought it for my son. Holds a decent amount of stuff. Hopefully, the straps don't dig into his shoulders.

Much lighter than my other packs. And while it is smaller - it has enough storage for what you need for day hikes. Straps are comfortable.

I do 5 miles hikes about 405x/week. This pack holds 2 large waters, it has an easily accessible zipper compartment for items you may need quickly - flashlight, pepper spray, hand sanitizer, masks. The main compartment is large- towels, dog sling, extra waters.

I bought this backpack for my Kindergartener and it's a perfect size for him - not too big- and not too small. The backpack is big enough to hold school essentials (and a folder) but small enough that he's not overwhelmed by the size. It has great compartments and it is really well made. We've even decided that when we vacation, he'll be able to pick new patches to add to the existing ones. We've happy with the purchase and would recommend for elementary school aged kids.

Cute for preschool or younger child. Bought for my Kindergartner. Won't fit a large amount of stuff but enough for a folder, library books and lunch.

Bought this for my 3 year old as his first school backpack. Its the perfect size with plenty of storage and pockets. I'm quite positive that I am finding a new pocket weekly with a stowed away toy. It's super light and fits great; it is the right balance of structure and weight for a little guy to carry on his back.

Great, my son loves it. It is hard to find good backpacks for young kids, because most of the ones sold in the big box stores are junk. These ones are great and hold up well, fit them really well, and chest strap is great.

We ordered (and had to return) two other backpacks for my child's forest kindergarten before finding this one. The Recon Squash was the only one that got everything he needed (binder, clipboard, raincoat) and wasn't way too big on him (he's almost 6). Perfect for nature school!
