I have a Surge Backpack that my sister borrowed and she loved it so much I got her this one for her birthday. Even though its a newer model it doesn't lack the same quality that mine has had for the last 3 years. I've used it for school and tons of traveling and can pack a lot into it without it being uncomfortable. Love hoe many pockets there are and the safety of my computer in the back pocket.

Both mine are new, however I have one that is 10 years old and was duel purpose for work and hiking. It was a work horse and I expect these to be as well!

A great backpack that you can easily use. Firm pockets for laptop, tablet, and documents. Large middle section can be used for workout shoes and clothes. Front pockets for easy access. Side water bottle pockets are deep and solid.

Very lightweight backpack when you barely have anything in it except for books, laptops, or paper for work or school. But also durable when it comes to heavy loads for traveling and heavy use activities.

I need a good looking spacious backpack and this does perfectly. Very spacious and great pocket layout. The only real criticism is that the bag doesn't stand up on its own. Recommended to a friend and he loves it as well.

I have purchased the Northface Surge 8 years ago. That backpack was amazing to me. I used it during high school, undergrad, and a year abroad traveling across Europe. It was still functioning perfectly and the cloth was not even worn down. The only reason I purchased another version is because a red ink pen broke at the bottom and all the papers/books I kept in the bag were turning red even after washing the bag. Other than that, I would have loved to keep my original. This updated design is quite nice and thought out well. I honestly cannot recommend a better working/everyday laptop backpack that also meets the rigor of traveling and being on the move.

I am a Grants Writer for a living and am always carrying my pack with my laptop, files, folders, and accessories at minimum everyday. I had a surge backpack (previous model/design) and felt the need to upgrade. And upgrade does not do it justice. The newest Surge Model is fantastic. Super comfortable, love the way North Face designed the storage compartments to maximize space, and the vent design for the air flow while the pack is being worn is amazing! Buy this now!

I have been on the hunt for a good commuter and general use bag for YEARS. After trying different styles of bags, different brands, tactical, tacticool, duffel and even a paper sack, I finally found the Surge. This backpack is handsome with the black and heather gray scheme. It is professional and stylish, yet can easily double as a day pack for hiking. It is ideally organized with a separate laptop and tablet sleeves and even has additional space for files and folders. The middle pocket is a large pocket for clothes and miscellaneous. The front pockets are well organized, padded and two of the four have fleece lining for sensitive electronics or sunglasses. My *only* complaint is the admin section could use a little more space and pocket organization. It's a minor gripe vastly outweighed by the rest of the bags functions. Thank you NF for bringing a pack to market that handles the difficult office to dirt and back role!

I love the large main compartment and the organization of the front pocket! The pack is very comfortable and can hold a lot of gear. I will be using this bag for travel, as well as daily, and so far it doesn't let me down!

Fantastic EDC backpack! Great compartment layout, shoulder straps are not to bulky and not too thin and are perfectly matched to this backpacks size which results in a very comfortable carry. The venting system utilized for this backpack works extremely well. Zippers are high quality and I haven't had any issues binding, as I have had in other backpacks. Overall A+ backpack.... Well done TNF!

I am a university professor with young kids and was looking for a backpack that I can use both for my work and personal life. I am in late 30's so didnt want a backpack that make me look too old or young. At the same time, I was looking for a backpack that can last forever, considering that I wont use it tough, like a college student may do. Lastly, I was looking for a backpack I can comfortably use during business trips (flights). So far, this meets my purposes very well. It is not too small or big for me (I am 5'8", slim), and it feels pretty sturdy. The laptop compartment has paddings all over, there are right amount of pockets for me. I was going to get Highsierra xbt, but I got a good deal for this one and didnt hesitate at all. I am very satisfied with my purchase!

So far this is very comfy, roomy, and great feeling while wearing. I use it for bringing clothes, lunches, and small electronics to and from work while commuting by train. Even when loaded to the same capacity as my previous back pack, this one holds my equipment almost completely off of my shoulders and, and sits high enough it is very well positioned on my back. I love it so far!!!

I use it for books and my MacBook. However I am ordering a slightly different one for hiking into the Sierra Nevada's to stream fish for trout and a little bow hunting.

Bought this for an international trip that will take me on multiple overseas flights. The organization interior space and handles are what attracted me to the Surge backpack. I love how the backpack looks as well. This should help me keep everything organized and easily accessible on those 16+ hour flights, and will keep me well-equipped once i reach my destination. Usual TNF quality, effortless zipper action and super-durable construction. This is only my second TNF backpack in 20 years because they are so durable. The only reason I bought this one is because my older one (TNF Big Shot) only has a single compartment, but it still works fine and looks almost as good as new.
