Bought this to replace my husbands 20 year old north face backpack. He loves the designated spot for his laptop and extra pockets. He loads it up and so far it has been great!

This replaced an older bag that is no longer made. My second Surge. One for home, one for work. That should say it all.

Great upgrades from my last Northface backpack. Nice features, good layout of many pockets. Comfortable and sturdy and on the weekends I can empty out the office stuff and take it for a hike!

Biggest advantage I found is that it has many pockets and it's better comparing other TNF bags for eg Borealis and Recon.

I got the Surge backpack as a gift 3 years ago. I'm a daily commute cyclist and avid backpacker. I take a 2-3 overnight and 3 night trips and this pack has been perfect.
The only drawback I have encountered is the flimsy zipper used for closing the front, electronics pocket. After 3 years, it has started pulling apart.
During the week I use this backpack for everything. I'm an artist and this pack can handle sketch books, canvases, paints, pencils, all the supplies I need to create great drawings and paintings.
Other than the zipper problem, this is the best backpack I've ever owned.

Love the amount of pockets that this bag has a pocket for literally everything. The two felt-lined pockets are perfect for storing and protecting valuables like sunglasses, watches or a phone. The large device pocket can easily fit my 13" 2017 MacBook Pro and has room for a tablet as well. I do wish, however, there was more space in this pocket to store folders/books, but I am able to comfortably fit my laptop charger in this pocket. The next pocket has a vast amount of space for storing books, folders, clothes or really anything you have. I like to keep and textbooks or folders that I have in here. There's also a pocket with a zipper in this compartment. The front pocket has a pouch with a zipper and key attachment string, along with multiple mesh pockets to store pens, flash drives, or other small items. Finally there are easy access side pockets on the front of the backpack, one of them felt-lined and the other normal nylon-lined. There are two side water bottle pockets which are very deep, smaller water bottles may disappear completely within the pockets. The upside is that if you have a small umbrella, it will easily store in one of these pockets. Overall, highly recommend this backpack to people who like practical backpacks with lots of storage that can be used for multiple uses.

North Face makes the best work backpacks out there. I had one for 9 years before replacing it with this one. This one is better than my last one. It seems that they keep improving their products. Good Job NF!!!

Great pack, tons of different sized pockets. Looks good too. I use it for work and my work has me on the go quite a bit so its nice to have a pack that can fit everything I need. Obviously a little pricey, but it's worth it. You pay for what you get, as with anything. Thanks North Face!

I struggled to find a product that handled laptop and tablet storage well, but staying compact enough to have my basic essentials in easy to find pockets when regularly traveling through aiports and visiting client sites. This backpack has the right amount of quick access to my regularly accessed stuff with the room to allow for some bulkier things that are specific to a particular day or trip.
Disclaimer: I have only had only had this backpack for a week, so I can't speak to durability/wear yet.
