Mainly used for travel or vacations. There are many little pockets and features that make it very practical and easy to find things.

I have tons of the north face products and this just adds to my collection of great quality gear. I love the fact I can fit my laptop in its own section, thick text books and clothing (medical scrubs) and still have room for more. The next time I will purchase the biggest size available. Had a problem with shipping but they took care if it efficiently and another sent over night. Great bag!

This is a great Backpack. I mainly use it for work to carry my laptop and work documents. It does everything that I have wanted it to do. The compartments are well situated to fit all the things that I need. I would definitely recommend this Backpack.

This is a great bookbag and the pockets are very well thought out. I bought this to replace an older North Face bookbag that I loved and I like this one even better. I primarily use this to commute to/from work, but I also have used it for traveling. I love that I have a separate spot for my computer and tablet.

As a busy college student, a solid backpack is a must. After having the same backpack for several years, I wanted to find a new one that held everything I needed it to, was comfortable, and one that would last for several years. I'm always carrying several books, folders, binders, etc. and needed a backpack to fit it all. This bag does a GREAT job! Hands down the best backpack I've ever had. I can carry my laptop, binder, textbook, and a few folders in the main two compartments. I also love pockets on the rest of the backpack to keep smaller items organized.

I love this bag I use it for school. I purchased a second one because my first one purchased two years ago wore out. The plastic backing in the back portion that gives the bag its stability and shape broke or crumbled at the top. This bag doesn't like cold weather. One inch of the plastic at the top simply broke off, so now my bag slumps over at the top. Also, somehow the padding that rests on your back at the bottom developed a large wear spot, which reduced the cushioning in that location. Other than that I love the bag and was glad to see you are still selling a very similar design to the one I already own. I'll gladly send my old one back to you if you'd like to do some research on it and figure out why those portions failed the PhD student durability test.

I bought this bag to use primarily when I travel. It will be used on the plane, boat, and day trips. I typically keep a bag until it can't take any more. This one is off to a good start. It has lots of pockets that make sense.

I own a hotshot2 for almost 9 years, This was my first TNF backpack and i went in love with This brand, the only damage in my backpack was color fading but zippers and evrything else was still as New, so my. Family decides to give me a New one, the y didnt found the same hotshot2 but This surge is like a remake of mine, you can still see some details similar, size but with iproved systems, i loved the fleece in the two front Pockets and also the New thied space for comouter or ioad with fleece, flexvebt systems is awesome and very comfortable, seems that This one can Last other 10 years, time will tell. Only con is that color didnt matched exactly with the photo as the zinc grey is much darker in real life it seems to be almost equal to TNF Black.

I use this backpack daily. My daily load includes my work 13" Macbook Pro, charger, mouse, my lunch for the day, and a set of gym clothes, complete with shoes. This backpack EASILY holds all of that with plenty of room to spare. It's really amazing just how roomy this bag is and how much stuff it can hold.

I had an old Recon backpack from 2015 which was recently stolen. I was devastated because I LOVED that backpack. Naturally, I ordered another Recon to replace it, but wasn't crazy about any of the colour options and the bag didn't seem the same. Everything seemed smaller. So, my search began. I ended up ordering several backpacks (styles and colours) and ended up with the Surge. While not perfect, it comes very close to meeting all of my daily needs. Items are easily accessible. Storage pockets are of reasonable size. There is solid protection for my electronics. I put my purse in one of the front pockets. I put my headphones in the other. I keep medicine/sunglasses/keys in the top pocket. Inside I keep my phone, extra dog waste bags, pens, etc. The main pocket holds my lunch, things for my dog, or when not for work stuff just anything I need to take where I'm going. The tech section holds my laptop and iPad. I also like the small zipper compartment on the main section of the backpack because my mouse fits in there perfectly and makes it easy to find. There are only two things so far that I don't like about this bag. The first one being aesthetic -- I have the men's medium grey heather/zinc grey and the tabs that hold the side clips on are black. They would look much better if they were grey as they are on the Router Transit. The second one being that now that the side pockets are much deeper than they were on my old Recon those same straps meant to compress the bag get in the way of my taking water bottles in and out of the bag. I'm going to keep this bag. Like I said, it is the best of the bunch, but there are a few things I think could have been given a closer eye for design. I probably would have preferred the Cosmic Blue/Asphalt grey since it is a darker colour and might show less wear, but unfortunately, when it arrived the colours did not much online and the nylon straps were all a very bright blue instead of being the same navy colour shown online.

I went back and forth between the Router Transit and Surge pack. I spent about a week researching both, finally deciding on the Surge based on the best price for the features I needed. I would like to have had the larger main compartment of the Router Transit, but need a 15" laptop compartment, and didn't want the larger 17" compartment offered by the Router Transit. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the main compartment offered by the Surge. It's comfortable, lightweight, stylish... the best part in my opinion is all of the seemingly perfectly designed for me pockets. Fleece lined pockets fill the pack for protection of tablets, laptops, and even one for your sunglasses. Additionally, there are several pockets within the secondary compartment for the organization of chargers, mouse, and small computing accessories. Overall, I'm happier with it than I expected, and I expected a lot from this pack.

Great day pack, I travel to a remote village in the Andes Mt in Peru twice a year for my work. I have carried all kinds of gear and in these conditions (10,000 feet) North Face is the only pack I will ever carry from now on. I have had my share of failed equipment and in what I do I can't afford any disruption. From lugging it around in the airports to throwing it in the back of a four wheel drive truck for the 5 hour trip up the mountain then hiking from farms to the village to remote fields, it takes the abuse and is always ready for more. Best pack I have ever carried, hands down!

I was looking for a backpack that would fit my needs for a second carryon item for traveling. This book bag has enough pockets for a laptop, books, Nintendo Switch and other items. Couldn't be happier.

If you love style AND practicality this is the backpack for you. I am a full time doctoral student at UTMB where durability, organization, and comfort are all musts. The fact that the backpack fits extremely well and looks amazing are both cherries on top.
