Background - I'm a moderately in-shape 50 some yr old woman who decided to get some hi-end, reliable hiking boots with better ankle support to better manage the moderate difficulty hikes that my family loves, since I have narrow feet, weak ankles and knee issues. I did my research on Switchback Travel (https://www.switchbacktravel.com/best-hiking-boots) and Gear Patrol articles (https://gearpatrol.com/2018/09/26/best-hiking-boots/). I decided to buy 4 boots on Zappos - Lowa Renegade GTX Mid, Salomon Quest 4D 3 GTX, Scarpa Zodiac Plus GTX, and Vasque Saga GTX, wear all 4 around the house, sometimes with a different boot on each foot to compare, and return 3. Disclaimer - this review is based only on wearing the boots around the house; I haven't hiked in them yet. Comfort is very important to me because of the above mentioned issues Switchback travel said these are heavy but sturdy. What I found - yes, they're heavy. They fit me well, but I think that after hours of hiking, just lifting the boot will impede on my hiking ability. So these went back. See my reviews on the other boots.
I'd also recommend:
Lowa, Scarpa, Vasque

I ordered these as well as 6 other types of hiking boots for a trip to Iceland during the tail end of winter/beginning of summer. These boots felt true to size for hiking boots (meaning they had sufficient room in the toe box). They were the only pair of boots that I order which didn’t feel too small. I wore these pretty much out of the box on my first day in Iceland. These boots did not require any breaking in. I didn’t blister or ache at all, but as the trip went on they definitely became more comfortable. They kept my feet warm and dry everyday regardless if I was hiking in a river, or knee deep in snow on top of a glacier. They have good traction for hiking in wet or rocky environments. Also, they are a little higher on the ankle which is helpful when needed to keep my ankles stabilized on rough trails. They are a bit bulky so if you’re looking for shoes for less intense hiking these may not be for you. But if you’re looking for study boots that can take rough conditions you should definitely order them.

I ordered 3 pair of boots for hiking, 2 a little more stylish and girly looking all the same size. however, the Salomons were the best for the occasion! I wear a 7, / 7.5 and found the other stylish boots too narrow and tight with thick socks. The Salomons were a 7.5, but decided to go up to size 8 for comfort while hiking and the shoe not crunching my toes. By far these are the best for your $$. Very durable, no breaking in needed! I would order these time and again!!

Ordered my regular size (7.5), based off of many online reviews saying the boot had a lot of room in the toe box. This wasn't true at all for me, and the shoe overall was too small. Definitely size up at least 1/2 a size. The toe box was tight all around my toes, like a regular rounded shoe.

Great boots but nowhere near as comfortable Salomon X Ultra Mid 3 GTX. Missing the nice arch support.

I love these! You’re definitely gonna need to break them in, but come on, they’re brand new hiking boots, of course you are! Just a tip to anyone having ankle issues, double your socks and use a tall pair to roll down to your ankle to give you a barrier between the top of the boot and your ankle, I took them out for a hike immediately after receiving them and they were perfect, they did exactly what they were meant to! A majority of the mud slid right off, no water or moisture of any sort made it through the boot, and my feet were extremely comfortable, because not only did I hike, but I also had to walk back in them to my house from the wooded park, they’re also pretty stylish and I love the color!

Comfortable right out of the box. Plenty of room in the toe box, might even work for wide feet as there is good adjust-ability with the lacing. Have not hiked in them yet (still lots of snow) but have walked the dog in them. These are absolutely true to size. Heavier than my Vasque's, but was looking for a more structured hiking boot for long backpacking trips. I like the higher top for ankle support.
I'd also recommend:
Vasque, Merrell.

Went by the other reviews, and couldn’t be more thrilled with these boots. They are super comfortable, and have great arch support for my high arches. Tried them out today on a six mile hike in 10 degree weather— my feet were warm and dry and not a single blister. So happy with this purchase.

These are super hiking boots. They have plenty of toe box room and feel good on every part of my foot and ankle. The sole has a nice cushion to it as well. I did have a bit of trouble going back and forth with the size. In the end I went down 1/2 size and they are perfect.

The height of these boots just cut my leg in an odd spot. It actually hurt to walk around in. Maybe I just have weird feet!

Salomon Quest boots are the first pair of boots that from day one of wearing have not rubbed or caused me any discomfort. Easy to wear, marvellous in all weathers, comfortable, and warm.

Expensive comfortable boots out of the box. The only complaint (which is major seeing how much they cost) is durability. If you can afford one pair every year then these are the boots for you!

They look ugly on the website but in real they are cute as anything. Wore them for the first time on a 8 mile walk and got 0 blisters. Comfy and cute. Review will be on @katyf0x shortly :)

I've had these boots over two months now. They are exceptionally hard wearing, comfortable and warm. They are brilliantly waterproof and look good as a walking boot.

I first bought these boots over a year ago. There was no breaking in period, no blisters, just comfort and stability from the first step. I wore them on five backpacking trips in 2019. I'm a woman in my late sixties and was beginning to worry that I might have to stop hiking, one of the great pleasures in my life, because I was experiencing falls in my old boots. The Quest boots gave me stability and increased my confidence. When the boots got holes in them and one of the lace stays ripped on my second of only two backpacking trips in this last summer of Covid, I sent pictures to the company and they quickly evaluated and sent me a gift certificate for the full cost of the boots. I immediately ordered the same pair in a different color, brown, and LOVE them even more! I have worn them on several day hikes with, again, no break-in necessary, and am hoping to wear them on a rim-to-rim hike in the Grand Canyon this winter. I've owned several brands of hiking boots, but these are a solid favorite!

I just bought this boot and tried it out a few times. It seems very solid, gives great support, comfort. I specifically was looking for ankle support and this boots provides it. I purchased a 1/2 size larger than usual. I like roomy toes and usually prefer slightly wide shoes.

I bought these in 2010 for a hiking trip in Ireland. Now 10 years on I can not recommend these enough. No rips, no tears, and I've put on countless km in these up mountains, swamps, canoe trips. Friends and family over the years have bought these, never a complaint. You cannot do wrong buying these.

Bought 1 full size larger then my usual shoe size. Have owned them for 1 full year and have done some major hikes in these fabulous boots. Spent one full month wearing these every day hiking in Nepal while carrying a 30lbs pack up to 17,000' Did not even have a blister or any problems with my ankles! Highly recommended!

They are comfortable boots. Bought larger size as recommended and they are a great fit with socks. They are fairly light for boots. Not done a really long walk yet however on shorter walks great.
