I own a pair of the Quest 4d and they are the best hiking boots I have ever owned. But I wanted a lighter more all around boot too so I bought a pair of these. After wearing them for a while I noticed that my small toes on the left boot would hurt soon after I put them on. Weird thing is that my right boot feels fine. It got so bad that I started wearing my quest boots instead of these and my left foot would feel instantly better. So just another word of warning that the toe box might be a little narrow for some people. I wish that I knew that before bought them

Good fit and comfortable. But won’t stand up to rough trails. Don’t see this being a work shoe either the soles have come off on my shoes and are hard to glue back. May have to experiment with different glues. They lasted me about 6 months not worth the money to me.

Toe pinch and Gore-Tex bootie POP... I tried these on and the fit was fairly nice, and lightweight. But that lightweight design and construction comes at a price. The toe box construction causes a severe dip in the fabric and nose that digs into the top of the foot, just at the base of the toes... and it didn't stop there. When the toe pushes off and returns to its "natural" position, it creates a very distinct POP sound. This was far too annoying to make them worth the price. With that said, this is not the only pair of shoes/boots, with the Gore-Tex lining, that I have had this on; it has something to do with toe areas that are not fully structured and allow the fabric to create a peak in one direction along the length of the toe/foot, and an indentation/flex across the width of the toe. Alternatively, I had tried a pair of the Salomon Quest 4D 3 boots, and they did not have that problem due to a better design of the toe and forefoot area, but they were a little too heavy for me. Now, I am on my second pair of the Lowa Renegade Mid GTX instead.
I'd also recommend:

My first pair were not great for long distance hikes, the cushion in the sole is almost flat now, feet are getting sore. Bought these second pair for a friend so we'll see how comfortable his feet are after 50kms+ of trails. Gone back to my Merrells.

Shoe looked good and seemed like a quality shoe, but seems as though they are not made for people with wider feet, even though I ordered a wide.

I purchased a men's 7 wide. I noticed right away that the European size for the boot I purchased was 40. Other brands list the European size for US men's 7 as 39. I am a woman with a very wide foot and a high instep. I normally wear men's 7 wide footwear. This shoe is way too long for me and just barely wide enough. But the arch area pushed uncomfortably on the area just behind my big toe telling me there was just no way these could work for me. I thing the construction and quality of this waterproof shoe is excellent, but Solomon needs to make a more diverse set of sizes and widths if they intend to capture customers like me with short, wide feet. There are very few brands that cover the smallest men's shoe sizes with any degree of consistency. All brands need to address our needs better. I had to return these. Thank you Zappos for allowing home try-on and free shipping. It's the only way I can find any footwear that will work for me.

Tried them out about a month ago 13 mile walk, so couldn't really comment on them properly. Just completed a 70 mile backpacking trip along the southwest coast path so now I feel I can say how I found them to be , on my feet.! PROS: Nice and wide so no blisters on toes. Good down hill traction. Kept my feet dry on a very wet day. Didn't feel too hot/ sweaty in them. Very light and comfortable to wear straight out of the box. CONS: This is my reality on how they performed on a mixed bag of a footpath - boulders, flint path, grass, mud and up and down steep valleys. I walked about 12-20 miles a day over 4 days carrying about 30lbs. They tired my feet out quite quickly as I could feel the stones under foot due to the sole not being stiff enough, and no real shock absorbing quality in either heel or insole. My feet were, around my heels and inside of my feet, blistered and tender. This, I feel, could be lack of any real padding around the heel counter as you can feel the plastic? ridge on the insides of each boot. OR just that my feet suffer from blisters!? this is the second pair/type of your boots I have had some of the blisters I have had I have not found with other makes over the years. In my opinion, and it is only my opinion, these boots are day hikes, light backpacking on flat terrain type boots as there is not enough shock absorbing quality, sole rigidity or padding around the heal area to make them comfortable for heavier /longer back packing trips. A high quality boot. Seemed very comfortable at first, but on my first hike the narrow toe box really pinched my feet and proved just too uncomfortable and torturous to wear. I was wearing a pair of micro crew hikers in Cool Max so the thickness of the socks was not the problem. I was surprised by the issue with the width as I've never required a wide width in a shoe or a boot. After I purchased the boot, I noticed Salomon now makes the X Ultra in a wide width. Wish I had known that before purchasing. Would advise anyone who wears a regular width shoe or boot to actually try on the regular and the wide widths before purchasing so you don't get stuck with an unusable product.

Generally a good boot but I'm having some comfort issues. I've got narrow foot about 12" long and the biggest size I could buy was 12.5UK (I'm Australian). This size is right on the limit - with thicker hiking socks, there's very little room in the toe box - big toe is brushing the top of the boot - especially at the end of the day. There's a bit of wriggle room in the toes with liner socks on - improved by inserting chemist bought gel inserts. Width-wise, they are a quite a tight fit even for my narrow foot. After 20km+ of walking a lot of the tightness has eased but I'm still having issues with the left foot (the bigger one). It feels like there is a mound under the left edge of my left foot at about mid-point. It's not painful as such, but uncomfortable. As a few others have mentioned, the tongue has to be adjusted to avoid pressing into the ankle - it was a lot worse when the boots were new but it's still an issue from time to time. Also as others have mentioned, the boots make a popping noise when I walk - the sound is similar to the noise that a pair of those old rubber boots make, especially if they are a bit big. I've had this with other shoes - I think it comes from having a flattish foot meaning that there's space between the top of the foot and the laced section. The shoe flexes at this point - like a rubber boot - and this causes the sound. Not a big issue but it would be better if it didn't!

Great fit and really comfy. Gortex Waterproofing seems to work but the stitching has failed me after only a handful of walks which has compromised the water tight needs of the boot.

After owning these for approximately 2 months I've grown increasingly more and more frustrated with the laces. They do not stay tight. Every knot comes loose. Single, double, doesn't matter. Never purchased a pair of shoes with high price point such as these with such crap laces. Absolute worst I've ever owned.

After putting many miles on my X Ultra 3's during all four seasons of the last year, I can say they are just an average boot. I appreciate the gortex for the waterproof aspect however they tends to trap heat and moisture, making a less than ideal summer boot. The X Ultra 3's are not insulated, making them a poor winter boot. So you're looking at a two season boot. Additionally, the seam at the toe of my boot ripped, which has allowed moisture to leak in during use in wet/ snowy conditions. I have other pairs of Salomon's which I have been satisfied with, so this comes as a surprise.

I bought these about a year ago and the support, comfort, and grip have all been great. I just wore them in heavy rain for the first time, and the water came right through to the tops of my feet almost immediately. What happened to the Gore-tex?

After doing a considerable amount of research having been cooped up during lockdowns I purchased my first pair of real hikers at the tail end of December as a late Christmas gift for myself. When they arrived I was over the moon at the initial fit, especially being someone with a very wide and flat foot. Being winter and impressed with the first impression it broke my heart to box them up in anticipation of wearing them again once the rains of spring had passed. Fast forward to early May and I finally decided to break out the boots and put them through their paces and proceeded to fall in love all over again. The boots had the comfort of a weighted blanket without very much actual weight to them and the waterproof claim without a doubt holds water (more like repelled it with ease) much to the appreciation of my very comfy feet. Fast Forward to Mid June and while taking off my boots noticed that despite only a handful of hikes the tread had completely worn down in 10-15% of the sole and other areas were quite worn down despite taking an abundance of care not to walk on abrasive surfaces like cement and asphalt. I really love these boots but I'm not sure I can justify purchasing another pair with the tread wearing down so rapidly. The uppers are completely intact showing no major signs of abuse, no tears, or fraying but looking to the bottom soles would leave you thinking otherwise. Having come from a budget boot that are years old with much more tread left I can't help but feel a little disappointed.

Wanted to love these but just can't. Felt a little narrow but not too bad, but tounge barely covered my instep. Noticeably light. First hike of about 4 miles where 1 was paved ended up wearing a rediculous amount of material off the sole. Looked like pencil eraser type shavings were coming off. I resolved to not wear them on pavement anymore. First real summer waterproofing challenge came. Hours in wet grass in steady rain. My feet were SOAKED. Water noticeably entering from shere the upper meets the sole any time I hit a puddle. Very disappointed in this summer "waterproof" hiker given the price. I guess I'll just wear my fall/winter Tims. I'd rather my feet be hot than worry about pavement and rain.

It took a bit to break in these boots, hurt my feet like heck. I figured that they were tough, and for the price you would think that as well. Once they were broken in they were fairly comfortable once I put in my own insoles. The insoles that come with the boots are like cardboard cutouts, you can feel the tread underneath. I have Not even owned them a year and the stitching on the sides is peeling off, very disappointing. I like the boot itself, I like the height which makes it very universal for work or hiking. Pretty cool design too, but not pleased with the quality for the price. Unless I hear some changes I will probably not go back to these, and I would only recommend if you use them very leisurely. If you only do a project on the weekends or hike every now and then, you will probably enjoy them and they will last for a while.
