Great shoe all-around with amazing traction, but after having this for over a year, I finally went on a hike with them under rainy/puddle conditions and they did not hold up. After two miles, they were soaked inside and out and I had to finish the rest of the hike (lots of miles and elevation gain left) with heavy, water-logged shoes. Having your gear fail on you unexpectedly in the beginning of a trip was not enjoyable at all. I'm not sure about other Salomon products as this was my first one, I would stay away from this model. Hopefully, their other products hold up to their specifications or go with a different brand. Unfortunately, mine was outside the warranty window when I found out.

I have three pairs of this boot in different variations. The Ultra 3 Mid, the low cut version and the beefy Quest. These all fit great out of the box and I really like them, except on wet rocks. I really wish you had made these with a Vibram sole rather than the Contra Grip. I had three separate falls due to lost traction on wet rocks, especially around streams. Still love the boots though!

i wanted to love these boots. with more hiking, age, and gravity my feet must have gotten wider over the years and my old salomon boots (11 1/2 reg width) feel too tight in the forefoot. i ordered these in 11 1/2 wide width and they honestly did not feel any wider that the regular. the boots look great and seemed very well made, so disappointed. if you have a wide foot these are not the boots for you.

Fit well when I tried them on out of the box. After two hikes, I ended up with more room in the toe than I would like. Be prepared for the worst blisters of your life.

My son loves these but alas they are not for me. Even the wide seemed a little narrow in the mid foot. Maybe I just cannot deal with hiking boots that go around my ankle. I'm going to try the Salomon low hiking shoes.

Have been using this boot for over a month now. Advertised as "wide", no way. Unable to wear any kind of thick hiking sock. Nowhere wide as Merrell or New Balance hiking boots. Very supportive and waterproof. Excellent boot, if you don't have wide feet.

Purchase these recently due to the supposed wide fit for my son who has wide feet 2E to 4E manufacturer depending. The boots looked well made and were delivered promptly and even though we ordered a half size too big (11) the fit was nowhere near. I am size 10 with 2E feet and they were too tight for me. Not sure if they sent normal size by mistake ?.Pity because they looked a well made product and delivery and communication were good.

Was really enjoying these boots. They gave great support, kept my feet dry and stayed comfortable after a day hike. After month nine my feet began to rub against the toe box. This got progressively worse and now I find them unwearable.

Purchased the X Ultra 3 mid GTX in November and after only a dozen walks up the Wrekin In Telford I started to get blisters after 5-6 miles, I wear darn tough socks, also the waterproofing isn't as I'd expect, after the 2nd to 3rd walk I felt as though the boots were absorbing water instead of repelling it so needed to buy a waterproofing spray to apply to the boots. They look great and are comfy until the point of getting blisters but overall very disappointed.

One of the most comfortable shoes I have bought but unfortunately they can not handle wet grass. I train dogs and most of my work is done on grass fields. I bought these as I was looking for a lightweight pair that could handle being out in all weathers. The waterproofness of the shoes failed after 3 days. Never been hiked in or treated roughly but they do not stay waterproof long. Comfort , fit, lightweight all excellent but not fit for the purpose I bought them for .

So much I love about these boots. So light, the Contra Grip is fantastical grippy and solid, the midsole is super comfortable and the lockdown from the laces is superb - just an all round brilliant light hiker. However. I live in the UK. It's wet and boggy here. There are seams ALL over the upper of the Ultra 3, and it doesn't take long for the Gore Tex to fail. They also take around 4/5 days to dry out - that's at an indoor ambient temp of 15C with scrunched up newspaper to absorb. If you live in a predominantly dry climate and are looking for a light hiker boot these are fantastic. If you live in a wet climate they'll quickly fail and be relegated to dry day trips. Other things: Go half a size up from your normal shoes. I wouldn't use them carrying a heavy pack as the ankle support isn't there.

These are really new, but they were comfortable out of the box. I got them to replace a pair of mid Keen Targhees. These seem lighter, more comfortable in the footbed and more supportive all around, but especially on the ankle. The "wide" offers nice space in the toe box without being too clunky. Where I'm disappointed is on the waterproofing, which seems virtually non-existent. Perhaps they are slightly water resistant. Went for a walk in the rain, and after an hour they were thoroughly soaked through. Debating whether to switch back to the Keens, since they never had this problem. This could be a dealbreaker...though I'm on the fence because of how much more supportive and comfortable these are.

I bought the ultra wide as that is how it is advertised for my wide feet. It is actually the same size as a regular. This insoles match perfectly. False advertisement. Regardless the boot is a flexible boot and hikes well. great traction. Gortex not so good. great for maybe light dew but if you are in a rain storm they will soak thru very quickly.. Running around in Washington summer has held up well but with winter coming on I have to find a waterproof boot

After reading online reviews citing this boot as "the best hiking boot of 2020," I was stoked to buy a pair to replace my disintegrating vasques back in May. At first, my expectations were totally met-- super lightweight and super comfortable. However, I soon realized that the traction is absolute garbage on wet rock-- I've worn many boots from different brands over the years, and the traction here was by far the worst. On dry ground the traction is fine, but it's pretty annoying to be on-edge whenever I run into a damp section of trail. After covering around 150 miles in these boots, the section of plastic molding attached to the heel of the outsole has started peeling off on both sides of both boots. I'm hoping I can use shoe glue to keep this problem from getting worse, but I'm saddened and disappointed by the durability. Overall it's a good boot, but next time around I'll be looking for an alternative.

I bought these to do the Pennine Way. I did about 250 miles training ahead of the main event, mostly in dry weather, however some of it was in the wet and they performed fine. The boots were three months old when I started the Pennine Way, and after a week they started to let water in. It was so bad that the slightest bit of boggy ground led to wet feet. I was extremely disappointed as my previous experience with Salomon had been very good. I claimed under the warranty and they promptly issued a credit.

I had this boot for about 4 months when they completely blew out. I used them for hiking at first then for work, I do groundskeeping at a golf course. For a while they were great - feet would stay dry unless it was absolutely pouring, fit well, super comfortable - never had to break them in, and kept my feet breathing. The cons are they fell apart very fast, I was hoping these would last me at least a year but I am once again buying boots because on the right side the crease created by stepping began to wear and tore, now the sole is beginning to separate off, this is now happening on the left side as well. All in all, I would not recommend if you plan on wearing them often but for the occasional hiker these boots are fantastic.

I bought these less than a year ago for our trip to Alaska in August. I love the boot but now the right boot is making a clicking/pooping noise when I step above my toes.

The boots definitely feel sturdy, and have excellent arch support. They were a little tight for me in the toe box, and they felt bulky considering the light weight and tight fit. They have way too much padding in the ankle that made my foot look funny, and all of this bulk really did not feel supportive. I am looking for something more slim than supportive anyway, but this shoe was neither.
I'd also recommend:
Nike, Style Martin, Alta

I have bought two pairs of these hikers and they are the most comfortable pair of hikers I have ever had. The problem I have had with both pair is they are supposed to be waterproof. They were for the first couple times i wore them but i started to notice that they were leaking on the side in the same place don't know if it is a defect in the shoes but that's why I am only give g it a 3 star

Reviewing after a trip into the Grand Canyon. About 8 days trip with some good hikes in the canyon and surroundings plus Sedona area. I couldn't break them in but this pair was still so comfortable I had no trouble with them Lightweight, warm and good grip in general. The only down side is that after coming back from the trip they already show quite a few threads coming off the shoes and some parts show slight detaching (due to the threads getting loose) Not so good for the price tag they have, honestly.

Need to return these hiking boots. They are too narrow and cause pain. I hoped these would fit perfectly since they are so highly rated. They needed to be a D width but felt like a narrow width.

My foot fit great in the shoe only issue was I could not get use to the higher sides the upper side was very stiff and just did feel while walking in them. Had to return then and try the lower style.

I was really excited to get my boots a month ago. I have had 2 pair of shoes and they are absolutely great. I've worn these for 4 or 5 weeks and they just haven't widened out. I bought regular 13s in the shoes but had I known that they wouldn't break in more, I'd have ordered a wide. They hurt the sides of my feet, I won't be hiking in these.

I bought a pair of Solmon XUltra 3 Mid GTX a year ago. I used them intermittently to ensure they wrer broken in, before walking the West Highland way. The rest of the time I used my older pair of the same boot. best boots I have worn. the new boots had a slightly different Chassis design. the side lugs are slightly nearer the vibram sole. this is a design mistake as they are now easier to snag on rocks/stones. they flipped out and this caused lack of support, causing the boot to effectively fail. Please change back to old chassis design. this is my 6th pair, but fear if design isn't changed will be last. I have 1 new pair left as I bought one of the wider fitting pair which will be better for hiking with a pack as I found the regular a bit to tight if carrying 30lb bag. (The perfect boot though with day pack) would be five star if chassis design fixed. I have used/tested these boots for over 4000 miles
