I purchased the Size 14 US Mens SALOMON 'X Ultra 3 WIDE mid GTX' in black/blue color. My foot, with all my weight on it, measures a hair over 12.00 inches in length, 4.50 inches at the widest part and 4.00 inches almost exactly at the width of my inside to outside arch. These are accurate measurements of my personal foot without socks. These shoes from Salomon fit extremely true to size considering my foot specification. (I profile my foot as a size 14 US mens in EE width.) I would say my foot specs are the minimum specs appropriate for these WIDE 'X Ultra 3 mid GTX', meaning, I wouldn't grab the WIDE variant's of this shoe if you are any smaller than 1/4'' of the specs above. Your foot will feel kinda lost in the shoe unless your tie it up a bit tighter than normal. (Remember shoes will break in and become more spacious over time.) When purchasing these shoes it was important to me to make sure my (4'' wide arch) wasn't hanging over the edge of the shoe. I know I fit size 14 shoes most often than not, it's mainly my wide a$$ feet that make it or break it when looking for new shoes. I can say these shoes in the WIDE accommodate my foot extremely well. No arch overhang on the insides of the shoe and my 12.00'' long (size 14 US mens) foot fits perfect! I wrote this review to offer assistance to those considering these shoes in the WIDE option of the size 14 mens. Use my specs and compare them to yours. I am extremely satisfied with these shoes and they seem like they will hold up great. Extremely perfect fit, not much at all that I would change with the design profile of this size from SALOMON. 100% Satisfied. :)

These are light and comfortable hiking boots, with great grip on the soles. I love the feel of the Salomon last and these boots are no exception. They were comfortable out of the box for me and I didn't get any blisters during a week of 10+ miles per day hiking over a variety of terrain. The waterproofing seemed to work fine and my feet were not especially hot during summer hiking. My only comment is to watch the width if you have a wide foot. I feel like Salomon runs a little narrow and these felt more like a regular width to me. One other thing to note is that these boots have regular laces rather than the elasticized laces that Salomon puts in their low version of many of their shoes. I actually prefer the regular laces because it gives more flexibility in adjusting the fit.

Caution to prospective buyers: both the width and toe box run narrow in these so if your foot isn't narrow be sure to order them in wide. They felt light, flexible and comfortable right out of the box with no break in required. They also have a substantial toe cap, which is really helpful for hiking rocky trails. On the negative side, the X Ultra 3s don't have an arch shank. This means lighter weight but less underfoot protection so your feet could get sore on a long hike over rough terrain. They also only have five lace eyelets/hooks as compared to some other hiking boots that might have six or seven. To me, these boots have excessive padding around the ankle which makes the tops flare out and reduces ankle support. The too-fat ankle padding plus the minimal number of hooks makes the laces come loose. If you try to cinch them extra tight at the top it puts too much pressure on the front of the ankle. These would be good for people who like low-cut trail runners and don't need extra ankle support.

I have a narrow heel and like a wider toe box and as I usually order La Sportiva. I decided to try the Solomon over a size and width range in this X Ultra 3 Mid GTX. I really liked the look and fit in the footbed. They seem to run pretty true to size whereas with La Sportiva I always have to order a half size up. Toebox was similar to LS - nice. The round laces were good compared to LS. I also compared to Keen Targhee III which had the best fitting footbed because of the width in the toe box, had nice seal, and the best laces, but seem like they would be really hot for hiking in the tropics. On the Solomon, I also like that there are two lacing hooks at the top compared to other GTX boot makers that just use one. So overall I wanted to keep them but returned because: the tongue is cut too narrow for my ankle where it is supposed to seal against the upper. Since the tongue is heavily padded at the top it does not close completely to keep dirt out. Yes I could get it closed if I paid careful attention and tied the laces very tight. And maybe with time the padding would break down a bit to make it even easier.

Best hiking boots out there. They are narrow so I got wide and they are very comfortable. All Salomon shoes/boots seem to be narrow so take that into account when ordering.

The description states that these are sulfur green. The shoe came in yellow accent. The arch is very high and then width is very snug. The right shoe did not fit as well as the left shoe.

I am not very happy with my recent purchase unfortunately. I bought these boots three weeks ago and they are not as stated. I have a wide foot and despite the promise of EE, my foot is cramped and uncomfortable. I don't have freakishly wide feet as other wide brands have fit fine. I need to wear them very loose and barely tie the laces so my feet actually slide around a bit inside. I've worn them 6 times for a total of 25-30 miles and still don't fit. Second, the insoles are absolute garbage. Generally I expect this and buy a quality pair of insoles anyway. Salomon actually advertises this as a feature, something even to brag about in their shoes. Absolute nonsense. That's what hugely irritates me. Lastly, the "proprietary" soles are flexible and comfortable BUT they are not good at all for trails with rocks or tree roots. I feel every dang stone as if I'm wearing a 10.00 pair of slippers. Oh, and these have also aggravated my mostly healed plantar fasciitis. I've been hiking for over 20 years and I though I would treat myself to an "upmarket" brand for the 40% more than I usually spend. I can't return them and have now gone back to my old boots. Thanks a lot Salomon!

I love these shoes and this is my 3rd pair. I have never had an issue with any Salomon shoe I have purchased. These are great shoes and they fit great. I love my hiking shoes and wear them all the time. Thanks Salomon for such great shoes.

I agree with many of the previous reviews that these shoes do run narrow. That is a plus for me as I have narrow feet. I am an mature man that purchased these as offering ankle support and a grippy sole. I am very happy with these elements of the Salomon X Ultra 3 Mid GTX Shoes. I am using them during my traveling and can’t be happier.

This shoe, err boot is like the running shoe of the boot world. I do a lot of walking at work, in the field, and over rough terrain. This boot, while stylish, is super comfortable, with plenty of tread. However, I do not like the lacing style - as the tongue's puffiness does not allow a tight fit. About 2-3 times throughout the day I have to re-tighten the laces. I have yet to test its waterproof-ness, and probably will not unless dire circumstances. This boot will remain a backup for days that a lot of walking is necessary. Another type of boot (leather) will be used for other conditions.

I ordered a pair of these boots almost a year ago after enjoying their ski boots and fell in love these too. They are light for boots, breathable for being completely waterproof, and are comfortable to be in all day. I work at a brewery and do a lot of walking all day in a wet cellar. These have been amazing. I also have taken them on lots of hikes and are super easy to spray down and clean. After 9 months the sole on my right boot started separating in the center on the inside. I reached out to Solomon and they sent me replacements! Makes me really happy that this company stands by their products and I'll continue to order their ski and hiking gear!

I am a senior hiker who has 50 years of hiking and camping experience. I replaced my traditional style heavy suede and codura nylon name brand hiking boots with the X-Ultra 3's. I used them on a rigorous 12 mile hike on the A/T in Ct. The terrain was mixed and rocky, not NH Rocky! but Rocky. I am 200lbs + and was concerned about support and cushioning. The Ultra's were flawless in their performance. Their level of traction was also fantastic. The weight savings with these boots allowed me to complete a hike that became even more challenging due to the water sources being dried up due to drought. The X-Ultra's are my new favorite hiking boots for sure!

I've worn these in torrential rain, hot sunshine and snow. Not ideal in hot sunshine or snow, but have kept my feet secure and dry in UK rain and mud. They offer adequate support for a light pack on trails, not mountains or with a heavy pack.I normally wear 10.5 so I bought 10.5. They fit great. That said some people say they are narrow, but my Merrel MOABS are too wide for me so maybe I have slightly narrow feet. After 600 miles of rain and mud they no longer look new, but give the impression they will go on much longer. Grip and comfort on all surfaces is good. I recommend.

This is the boot to end all boot searching. I’ve been looking for a hiking boot that will put up with my woodworking, long walks training for mountains, and will still be comfortable in a regular work day. This is definitely waterproof: Gortex for life. I put my boots through hell and have tried everything and finally found one that isn’t ugly af and still kicks ass. This boot has great stitching and it’s fairly low profile. I wear all black every day and was hoping these wouldn’t be so “dad” like (even though I am a dad), and they are a little thick when you first get them but the padding compresses a little with wear which looks better than some bulky boot and they still stay really warm. I accidentally ordered the kind with “spikes” which should read “cleats” so don’t make that mistake, and before that ordered the insulated version which was immediately too hot for a Kentucky winter but this one stays warm with nice wool socks and can be cool with thinner ones which is great for our confused weather and will be good for climbing Mt Thompson in Idaho later this year. I really wanted ones without the side lace hooks but it seems that every brand does that. Not sure why but these at least stay flushed better than most which cuts down on tripping violently. I still squeeze them closed with pliers but wish I didn’t have to. There are parts of the mountain that you have to squeeze through and if you trip you die so I have to close those side hooks. Anyway, these are super comfortable and warm and totally waterproof. I literally got this app again just to make a review because they are so good. Also, having the cross cross triangle pattern on the sides helps with grip on slippery rocks! There’s a rock outside my back door that gets incredibly slippery when wet and my old boots were one piece on the side and I’d always slip off the rock but these have actually caught my foot on the side and saved my ass. And the stitching doesn’t look damaged by it either. I’m sold. These are golden boots. My only wish is that they came murdered out in all black. Maybe one day...

I purchased the Salomon X Ultra 3 Mid GTX based off the solid online reviews and was extremely pleased. Without any break in time, I wore these for an entire weekend off hiking and snow play. They were comfortable from the moment I put them on with great kid/ankle support; no blisters or soreness at all. The GoreTex waterproofing performed perfectly. Not a hint of water or moisture got in despite extensive walking through snow. The boots are certainty warmer than standard shoes but don't overheat like snow boots. I imagine these will also serve me well for summer hiking. The fit is more on the narrow side (I have narrow feet), but not too much. Highly recommended!

For anyone that needs a roomy toe box. Order this boot in the wide. I do not have a wide foot but I do need a wider toe box. The boot did not feel any different in the length and in my opinion the wide version is only made wider in the toe box rather than the entire boot....this is exactly what I was looking for.

Normally, Salomon's run a tad narrow for my feet, but I saw these had a wide option on Zappos so I tried them. They fit great. No real break in period needed - I wore them today for about 3 hours with no hot spots or soreness. The heel has good support. I'd say the arch is moderate. The heel felt slightly loose when I first put them on (my forefoot is relatively wider than my heel), but after adjusting the laces, I didn't notice any impact while walking around. The insoles the shoe comes with are very comfortable and have slight cushion in them. I will wear them mostly in woods and fields for work - overall, very satisfied with these boots.

I usually stay away from Solomon because they are to narrow but these wides worked well in the toe box. I wore them today on a small 4 mile hike and they were very comfortable. I like the lacing system and my feet stayed dry and didn’t get hot in 74 degree muggy heat. Sharp looking hiking shoe.... I recommend.

We do most of our hiking in the white mountains of New Hampshire which means we hike in widely variable conditions. From sun, to rain to snow, sometimes all in the same day. This isn't the first boot I've had that has been able to keep my feet comfortable, dry and warm no matter what nature throws at us. This has become my year round boot!

Just arrived yesterday! Delivery was two days before expected which was awesome! Great looking boot, overall comfortable, and very functional. When laced tight around the top it does pressing on my ankles a bit but I figured that was just them getting broken in. 2 suggestions for the future. One would love to have had these in a quick lace and also around the top have a rollerblade or ski boot style strap. Two I did think the blue would be more vibrant / electric and the yellow more closer to neon bright from the pictures I saw on the website. It's okay because these boots are awesome anyway. Lots of places to hike in my area of East Tennessee with these. Me and my crew are the type to go way deep in the woods you're not going to hear banjos more likely some good hard trance or dubstep.
