I bought these for hiking. I wanted a shoe, opposed to a boot. I liked the idea of water-proof, though was worried they wouldn't breathe well. My first 5 mile hike (to break them in) went very smoothy, felt like no break in time really required. I sank in some deep, wet spots - my feet remained dry, and the shoes were also easy to clean. I've now been on about 5 more hikes with them, fantastic hiking shoe.

I will use the GTX110 shoes for hiking. I have not had these shoes long enough to hike in but they fit very well and feel great on my feet.

Fit was fine except that the heel area was too wide. I couldn't tighten the shoes enough to keep my heel from "slipping" when I walked.
I'd also recommend:

keep in mind i am a regular joe shomo and get no kick back from this post... but these shoes alow me to do what i do on a daily bases ...... lets stat by saying these shoes are awesome... about 4 years ago, my cosin from spain came to Miami to vacation. while she was here, I would always poke fun at her northface climbing shoes(who needs climbing shoes in MIAMI HAHAHA) and she quickie told me "have you ever tried hiking shoes?" of course my answer was nothing short of no... until while she was here had an incredible pain on my face rendering me usless.
I am 6'0 about 350 and going down... I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis... I am alos a RN working in an OR with countless amounts of hours scrubing into cases, and just walking and running. now for a big guy like me I need supportive shoes. i would always by brooks, adidas, NIKE, ASICS, skechers etc. spending more than 900-1000$ a year. A shoe would typicaly last me 1 month (expensive or not) beaucse of the wear i would give them, they would look new but all busted in the inside :(.. then i reached out to my cousin and she told me to try hiking shoes..... so i did, i sat down in bass proshop and drove the very nice lady crazy trying on more than 16 pairs of hiing shoes, until i came across these GTX ULTRA- nowat first they where hard, but u ACTUALLY feel the support !! frist pair of shoes lasted me 8 months before they started to break down outside of the shoe. with holes.... very durable, and foot pain free!!!! these are MY SHOES... i work in an Operating room, and yes they are water proof, good knows what they have on them and have clean feet at the end of the day.... highly recommend!!! i am a size 13 Wide and i wear a 14, and they are perfect!!!!

Did a lot of research before dropping my money down on these. I believe I have truly tested these to the extreme. Worn through the trails in Tennessee to Cummins falls on rainy day, water running down the dirt paths. Climbed Mt Catawba to McAfee Knob on the AT. Climbed the 1000 step stairway to heaven on Jacobs mountain in PA. I have easily put 100 miles on them.
I wear them strictly on the terrain. Not daily use for around town or work. They have kept my feet dry. Comfortable. Only sometimes will the balls of my feet get sore but that has more to do with how I walk I believe.
No tread separation, no fading, no odors, not seem separation. This will be my shoe choice for the foreseeable future.

Love these shoes. Have 2 copies of the previous version, the 109. I like the fit in these even better. I have very wide feet with a high instep and a bunion on my big toe on the right foot. Therefore, I size these up a 1/2 size to accomodate. They don't feel loose or big because of it.
They are definitely waterproof until they get old enough to have some holes in the fabric. They truly feel like low hiking boots with very stable and cushioned soles. Great for hiking with a pack.
However, they aren't for hot weather. Definitely on the warm side because of the Goretex.

This shoe is versatile because it is best for short and long hikes . It has strength , water proofing, light weight doesn't require too much effort to break in . I had to search heaven and earth to get my hands on this one. It was out of stock at every place I looked for

I quite literally wore out my first pair having worn them all over the world. They've been up glaciers and to penguin colonies, day hiking and trail running, walking the dog in the rain and just a casual night out. When I got my second pair after more than two years with the first I was delighted to remember they felt great the moment I put them on my feet. I can't think of a better shoe I've ever owned.

The shoes fit great, with one little problem. Upon putting them on, I almost immediately got the beginnings of a blister on the 2nd toe of my L foot, probably because I've broken it previously and the joint projects upwards. Certainly not the shoe's fault, but untenable, nonetheless. I haven't had the problem with Merrell Moab Ventilators, so I'll probably go back to those. I'd highly recommend the North Face shoes to folks with more normal feet and regular toes!
I'd also recommend:

My wife and I walk a lot. The shoes fit very well first time on. Yesterday we walked on a trail that had some puddles about 15 feet long. I was able to carry her on my back with my Gore-Tex shoes ! What an advantage ! Well -- perspective--maybe that's a disadvantage !! We need to get her a pair just like it !!!

I bought the previous model 3 years ago to do a lot of world travel - Greenland, Atacama, Bolivia, and more. Universal, rugged, and comfortable, and in black they'll go with about anything. I wear them to the office,on a plane, in the jungle, at the gym. I just bought the new model as I need a pair to keep in a second home in Tahoe. Probably one of the best shoe investments I've ever made!

These are perfect Seattle weather shoes!! If you go out, and end up running into Jonny law, then have to run through several streams, and hide under a mossy log for the evening you are in luck. Because they are Gore Tex. Your toes will stay dry.

I don't have a ton to say about these since I haven't worn them beyond my living room, but I was able to get a good impression. As to sizing, the 12.5 was perfect for me, while I need a 13 in a lot of other brands. My dress shoe size is 12 and I have a medium-wide foot with a low arch. My size 12.5s weighed 18 ounces each, fairly average for the category.
These can accommodate a higher volume foot without feeling sloppy. A nice feature when feet are swollen after some serious miles. It was one of the top shoes for comfort among those that I tried (Salomon, Scarpa, Salewa). I wouldn't have any problem taking these on a long backpacking trip and they'd crush some day hiking and scrambling. If I lived up north (instead of Florida), they'd even be a good every day multi-use shoe for cold / wet conditions. Good looking shoes for their trail capabilities.
I ultimately went with something with more specific climbing features and without the waterproof membrane, but have nothing against these shoes. I'd suggest them to people considering beefy water resistant trail running style shoes such as Salomons for hiking, backpacking, and everyday. Enjoy.
