Great quality and super comfortable. I’ve put over 300 miles on a pair. https://www.southernoregonhiker.com/2020/10/31/altra-cayd-300-mile-review/

Fit was like all my other Altra's. Back of the shoe cut into my heel. I'm not sure why but had to return them.

Love all my Altra shoes but can say this one doesn't have as much volume in the toe box as the running and hiking shoes but still a great shoe

The Cayd is a nice casual shoe with Alta's zero drop and wide toe box. Not as comfortable as a pair of Torins or Lone Peaks, but still comfortable (especially compared with many other brands). I have not had any problems with my pair as compared to some other reviewers. Overall, I'm happy with them and wear them most days to work.

These Altras look awesome! Great with jeans, shorts or dress pants. I usually wear size 10 but they were too small so ordered up to 10.5 and a better fit. The do rub a bit around the ankles but not horrible.

Note: I am a female with wide feet, size 8.5 in women's shoes. I ordered a 7 in the Altra Cayd, and the length is perfect. I absolutely love the style of this shoe - even more so in person. The cushioning is amazing and they seem well-made. The only drawbacks for me were (1) the backs dig into the back of my heels, so I could not wear these without several Band-Aids under my socks, and (2) the toe box seems awfully narrow for foot-shaped shoes. I had tried the Altra Vali in size Women's 8.5, but it was HUGE in the toe box. This shoe is quite the opposite. I was dismayed to take off my shoes at the end of the day to find that my left foot, which has a moderate-sized bunion, had been squished to the point that my big toe was stuck UNDER my second toe. Not good. I bought these specifically because they are advertised as foot-shaped, and I'm also looking for zero drop. The squished-toe thing made my foot hurt, so I have not worn these shoes since then, though I hope to stretch them so I can wear them again. I bought a new shoe stretcher that stretches not only width but also length, so hopefully that will take care of the digging-into-my-heels problem. I noticed a couple other reviewers here said the same thing about the back digging into their foot. After a while it starts to feel like somebody carving into your heel with a knife. NOT. FUN. So right now the shoes are at home with the stretchers in them, after spraying them liberally with shoe stretch liquid as well. I'm crossing my fingers it works, since I don't want to have to be out $140 for a pair of shoes that hurt my feet. Hoping Altra reads these reviews and takes our comments into consideration!

I bought these to replace my 3rd pair of Instinct Everydays, which was sadly discontinued- I used the Everydays for both work and casual wear and they were the best shoes I've owned. The Cayd feels slightly less cushy, but still have the zero drop and wide foot box that made me love the Everydays. They are a bit slimmer vertically in the toe area, but still comfy. Just bought a second pair so my originals can be demoted to work use. Not as good as the Everyday, but still a very good shoe and better than any other brands I've tried.

These shoes are nearly perfect. I have wide hobbit feet and these shoes fit them great. I can get away with them at the office. I've only had them for about a week, so I cannot comment on durability. The only issue I have is the top of the heel digs into my achilles if I don't have them laced perfect. I'm hoping this issue goes away as the leather loosens up.

This short had a rough break-in period where my back Achilles was getting rubbed raw. I tried bending the heel inwards and wearing it like a slipper for a week or two. Eventually the material in this part of the shoe became more pliable and now I don't have any issues. I think it needs a break in period like a baseball glove. Now it's the best shoe. Wide toebox, zero drop, lots of grip, very comfy.

Ordering a half size up these fit almost like my Altra Lone Peaks-still a smidge narrower than their running shoes (which are perfect) but wide enough for me.

I'm a fan of the large toe box in Altra shoes and these don't disappoint. The shoes look and feel great. On this first day of wear, the tongue is leaving a black smudge on my light gray socks, but my hopes is that that will go away soon.

After a long week on my feet (50+HRS.), these shoes are a comfort and a pleasure to slip on. I only wish they came in full on black as I could then wear them to work as well. I have thought about dying the bottom;Altra, any suggestions/advice?

Great shoes. Very stylish and comfortable. However, the laces are cheap -- lasted only two months. Better, stronger laces would be a great improvement. I hope you will replace or improve the blue laces needed so I can wear these shoes.

These were brown, not black. I actually thought I had mistakenly ordered brown, that's how brown these were.

For being a more modern, "barefoot"-leaning shoe, this felt too heavy and clunky. The sole was too thick and the overall shoe was too heavy. I didn't like my gait in the shoe.

I love the wide toe box, quite a relief for my aching toes but the sole is thick and not very flexible. This makes the shoe heavy and I was happy to kick them off at the end of the day. Not for me but maybe someone else would like them.

This shoe is true to the typical Altra sizing. I am a 9.0 in other brands, but 8.5 in most Altra shoes...and this shoe met that expectation. What I didn't like about this shoe initially, is the fact that a) it's not very comfortable at first as it felt too stiff, and, thus b) it takes some breaking in. The heel cup lacks ANY cushioning so I had to blister my heels up in order to develop callouses. Once I did this, plus softened the heel cup with my hand, everything is great! The Cayd is now my favorite pair of work shoes I've ever had. Last thought, I would recommend that Altra add greater cushioning to the insole for a plush feel. Right now, like I said, they are comfortable but this would just add icing to the cake.

This review is for the Cayd and I will compare them to my Lone Peak 5's for reference. I love the Lone Peaks, they fit me perfectly from heal to toe with zero break in period. The Cayd was about the same in the toe box but the mid was tight. I have worn leather shoes my whole life and believe these would have broken in after about a month. The primary reason I returned them was because of the outsole contour. The tread/bottom heal taper undercut my heal so when standing still I feel a little like falling over backwards, like I am on a balancing point. This also caused a weird delayed heal strike when walking, like the first time I wore zero drop shoes years ago. It's like a negative heal drop. When I put on my Lone Peaks after wearing these, it felt like I had an elevated heal, The front taper was also too severe and abrupt. If the sole had the same contour as the Lone Peak 5, it would have been worth a month of pain to break in the leather. At this price though, they should have used tumbled leather which has no break in period. Also, they do not breath at all. They have a lining that will not let a bright flashlight through, or air. One would think that all of the little holes would relax the leather somewhat but it is really stiff leather. A step more pliable than saddle leather. I read all of the reviews on this site and on Amazons. Most people like them and most of the people that don't sound like they have never broken in stiff leather shoes before. I have mid volume feet and am guessing that the reviews stating that they were comfortable right away have a low volume mid foot. If you have a wide mid foot these are likely not for you. Much tighter in the middle than the Lone Peaks. Also noteworthy, as evident from the picture looking down on the top of the shoe as when you are wearing them, the front contour is more "clown shoe like" than the lone Peaks. Having a decent looking black leather shoe was a partial selling point for me and made it that much easier to return them. Shoes are a very personal thing and you may like them.

These shoes might work for some people, but not me. The heel was way too narrow, not good for someone with foot problems. I returned them and expected a refund which I haven't yet received. The brand was recommended by my podiatrist so I'm sure some of the shoes are good.

i have a pair of the original every day shoe. they were soo comfortable, even if a lil unusual looking. i wore them all the time and would continue too if they weren't worn out. the new mode, the clad, looks much more normal and the black on black look great !! however they are not nearly as comfortable. my biggest complaint is the placement of the stitching on the inside of the shoe. why would there be a stitch where the ankle bone is? it in the worst spot. i hope altra will make a new everyday shoe and that they will return to fit and function or style.

I usually wear 4E(extra wide) shoes so I guess I should've expected this coming but this shoe is too narrow and the size felt like half size smaller. When I say narrow, I mean both the midfoot and forefoot area. Midfoot feels like as if I'm trying to put a corset on my foot. Forefoot area feels like a 2E, which is wide but not extra wide. Forefoot area depth is also too low. If anyone has digital contracture deformities, such as hammertoes, you will most likely will be rubbing the high spots of your toes to the top of the shoes, since my toes already touch the top and they are straight without any deformities. And of course I have also tried the shoes without the inserts on and it does help with the forefoot height issue but it makes the midfoot issue worse because the shoe seems to taper down in width when you take off the inserts. I would love to see a variation of this shoes with a wider midfoot and forefoot and taller depth for the forefoot. In the end, I probably would still recommend this to my friends and families as long as they don't have extra wide feet and/or digital contracture deformities.
