This is a gift for my son who is an avid hiker and lives/teaches in south China. He is tall and most long shorts are nylon/gym types....not top quality hiking gear. South China gets hot and humid and these shorts should be great for both casual wear and hiking. He should get these in the mail in a few weeks and if he likes them, ill give him another pair when comes home on vacation this summer.....hike the adirondack high peaks.

I purchased this product for trail running because the many pockets available and the easy use of the shorts in general vs. actual trail running shorts which seem to fall short on pockets and durability. My first pair I purchased the XL size and with the small attached belt they were just a little too big and baggy for running but I loved them in general casual wearing. Although they were too big, I was sold on the comfort and style of them so I purchased a small size, Large, Ash and these were just the perfect fit and full function during trail running. The many pockets help in long distance running as well as the material provide excellent performance in cool and warm temperatures so far. I particularly like the small attached belt to keep the waist snug. I liked the Large so much I additionally ordered two more pairs! Great to have a company like NorthFace providing versatility in many of there products!

Absolutely the best piece of clothing that I own. The fit is comfortable, loose fitting, with several deep pockets and durable construction. It has a built in belt and a wide elastic waistband that wont pinch too tightly. The stitching in key stress areas are reinforced and the impressive craftsmanship is noticed immediately with features like a metal grommet button instead of a plastic one held on by a few threads. The garment is also water-resistant and offers a measure of UV protection. As far as weight goes it feels lighter than a cotton t-shirt, wont absorb sweat or fluid, and air dries quicker than anything I've ever seen. I'm so happy that I plan on buying the pants version of these.. and I plan on thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail with both.

Sizing is way to large, I'm 155 pounds and usually wear 32 or medium, order medium but it feels like large. Got the smalls but it's tight. I wonder why TNF cannot keep the same sizing over the years = annoying!! Love the belt and the fabric, but they are not stretch. I own several paramount pants and the fabric is durable.

Use shorts for traveling in hot and humid weather. The fabric is light and has enough pockets for storage.

Replacement hiking and casual wear shorts after decades of service from my old North Face hiking shorts. I like that they're 100% nylon with a built in belt just like the old pair but also have a waist band that gives. They have just the right amount of pocket space. There's a big difference between large and medium so know your size! My old pair were large so maybe I just shrunk, had to go with the medium.

I use the shorts as everyday wear outside of work and on the weekends. They are durable and easy to clean and hold up to the rough times I put it through

XXL is a little large in the waist. Tried an XL but was much smaller; surprised by the discrepancy between the 2 sizes. Almost like a 2 size difference between XL and XXL. Stuck with XXL as they were more comfortable. Otherwise great shorts!

LOVE these shorts. The only shortfall are the back pockets, or lack thereof. I liked having two back pockets like the old Paramounts did. One back pocket isn't enough, and for me it's on the wrong side. Thus only 4 stars.

I wear shorts every day when water is a liquid. These have two design flaws: (1) only one back pocket, instead of two, and (2) the cargo pockets are too low on the leg, so a cell phone there bangs against your leg. It's uncomfortable on a short walk and painful and bruising on a long one.It makes the cargo pockets useless for all but the lightest, softest contents. Note that the 2015 edition of these shorts had neither of these problems.

I am usually a size 30 waist. The medium was very big. There is an elastic waistband and a built-in belt, but they are not a one-size fits all sort of deal. They were really big overall. I wouldn't be able to hike comfortably in them, so I returned them. I was looking for an athletic fit. I'll have to choose a different style. These might be more casual.

Hello, i have 3 short pants form TNF and very happy with them, unfortunately i do not exactly know whitch model TNF has no making in the pants for identification. now i bought what i though was the same pair again only to find out the design changed , and not for the better. now the front pockets have and almost horizontal opening making it quite difficult to reach in. the knee pockets now go all the way down to the very end of the leg, i used to wear a knife in the side pocket which is know very uncomfortable since the knife is riding on my knee with every step i take. my question is i anyone at TNF testing design changes ??????
