The color "Raven" and the picture would lead you to believe these are black. They are more like an olive/grayish color. You can never go wrong with Keens but I was expecting to get a darker pair.

Bought these Keen's to replace some aging kayaking shoes. A several week delay in receiving them -- "out of stock." Is Keen still in business? Tried the size 13 and then the size 12. Why don't manufacturers include size 12 1/2 in their rosters? That would be just what I need. Seemed like the 12's would stay on in sticky mud better than the 13's. Just the slightest tad too short however. There is no heel strap adjustment to help secure the sandal. Had the opportunity to try them today on a river. The toe protection is great. The open holes in the side webbing do permit small stones to become entrapped beneath my feet (the replaced shoes have a mesh to exclude stones, but not sand). Was able to wear them driving home. If they will last 8 years and my feet don't grow, I will be pleased with them.

These looked incredible, but didn't fit my high instep.Really wanted these to work so the toes would be protected for hiking in streams with the dog. Couldn't get my foot in, sadly. If they had a strap that could open in the back, they might have worked.Would probably be exceptional for the average foot.Tried bigger sizes, no luck.Exchanged for LL Bean's brand sandal with all adjustable straps. Sadly, no toe coverage for hiking in new pair!

As has been alluded to in other reviews, they are very difficult to get on because of the tight heel strap. One almost needs a shoe horn and I feel relatively sure that the stress point where the heel strap is stitched will eventually break or rip. Other than that, great little sandal.

I like these sandals a lot, but even after I upsized them as other reviews mentioned, they are still too small. I normally where a 10, so I ordered a 10.5, need an 11!

Had 2 sets of the Explorer II sandals, both failed last a full summer season. My granddaughter has a set of Keans sandals and has good luck with them. So lets hope the keens last.

Purchase for my ahusband. Fit well and wearing well. I have the same pair and still look new after 10 years. Super sturdy.

I will follow up this review in a few weeks. So far, so good. Here is an ABSOLUTE must. You MUST order these shoes / sandals 1/2 size larger than you average size. The LL Bean salesperson was very emphatic on this. He was right. Even at 1/2 size bigger I am not sure there are big enough. I'll stay in touch

Love how these Keens fit, and I love and need the toe protection. I was surprised, however, at how much they weigh.Once they are on, you don't notice the weight, but I was expecting them to be more in the flip-flop range. The weight does give me an added sense of protection, especially in the rougher terrain near our creek.

I got these for my husband. He loves them, but he prefers black footwear. It would be nice to see black as a color option.

I bought them just for hiking. They are so comfortable that I wear them all the time. They hug your feet without causing any blistering. They are a little hard to get on because I have a fat foot but they do seem to be loosening up a bit. Highly recommend them.

so far they are very comfortable, look great, well built. I have not taken them canoing yet, but the soles seems like they would perform as one would want to.

Only had these for 1+ weeks, but these sandals were great for several days of hiking in Arches and Canyonlands without the need for break in. Sole has excellent grip. Fully enclosed toe makes these sandals a winner. Minor downside: the material of the shoe bottom tends to make the bottom of your feet sweat - however since the shoes are open and well ventilated and are waterproof so can be dowsed with water occasionally this is not a big issue.

I purchased a pair in 2006, and still wear them. Though, one of the reasons I purchased the H2 version was the advertised "quick-drying" feature.
I wore these sandals on a weeklong paddling trip in Voyageurs Natl Park, and the shoes never really dried out. Got blisters from wearing wet shoes the whole week.
I give these sandals a 4 out of 5 stars, but only because of the quick-dry issue. I'd buy another pair if my current ones would ever wear out. :)
However, they are long-wearing, comfortable.....and almost as easy to put on/take off as flip-flops. Good protection for your toes.

Good-looking; comfortable; reasonably light-weight; durable soles; good traction; good lace-locking device. Not as "airy" as they could be and feet remain a bit sweaty. Glad I bought them. 4-1/2 stars.

Ending up with just the right pair of these sandals was a challenge. My first pair of navy I returned for size. I had read the reviews that they came true to size but I am afraid they run a little wide and I needed a smaller size. The second pair were olive/lichen and fit great. However, the odor of the materials and/or the glues are such that you cannot keep the sandals in the house or drive a car with passengers. Throughout this process L. L. Bean has been very helpful. The retail store took them back and immediately "bagged" them so that they didn't have to smell them in their working environment. Now I have another pair of the Navy in the correct size. There is still some odor of rubber materials, but nothing as before. My advice is to pay attention to this before you purchase them.

LLBean easily handled a quick return on these Newport H2s when the first pair of 8.5 was clearly sized small. I reordered a 9 and they fit perfectly. Save yourself the trouble and order them a half size up. After doing more research, I found that Keen recommends ordering a half size up for men and women, while kids run true to size.

I love this product! I've taken it hiking in all climates - desert, jungles, mountains and had no problems hiking in those terrains, if it did get really cold, there was plenty of ample room to wear some thick socks and still hike in them (i know wearing sandals with socks isnt classy) Its easy to carry around, light weight and cleans easily.
My only issue i had with it in why i haven't given it 5 stars is because hiking in hot weather does leave really smelly foot odor, but its nothing soo serious that i would not buy it, just a simple rinsing out and airing out can help.

My spouse said it is attractive and I should buy a pair for our son.
On the whole, I am happy with the sandals. It is slightly difficult to put on and hopefully it will stretch with usage.

A nice mostly closed-up sandal with good support and cushioning (not a slipper). I went out with an open toed sandal on a hot day in April and could barely walk for two days. I walked for almost four hours in these sandals and had no problems. I can't wait to try them in the rain or across a stream since they are designed for the water. A good purchase.

Very nice sandals, except mine were very difficult to get on. They fit fine once I did, perfect length and width, but the back strap is a fixed size, so they have to be stretched out before they go on easily. Mine aren't there yet. Even though I stretched them for a week on two mugs, I still struggle every time I want to put them on. Comfortable enough once they are on that I can wear them for several hours. You should not have to get oversized sandals to get them on easily.

Yes, very comfortable, comfortable in water, great fit.
But holds unbelievable stinky smell for active wear sandals. Never owned shoes or sandals that smell so bad after an outdoor activity and I'm 65 y.o..
Old tennis shoes worn kayaking, don't even come close to this bad smell.
They just plain stink after any activity and have to put in washing machine every time.
I've put off this review for over a year, but enough disappointment.
