I like the extra wide sizes available in a New Balance product. Boot fit is good, but the comfort in t he sole needs to be improved.

Great shoe only reason for a four star is not as skid proff as I thought they would be. I work in the restaurant field and it's hard to find a great boot/shoe . These are very comfortable

I normally wear 10.5 in new balance but this model seems like narrow And short from the toe so I return it and ordered size 11 with wide fit , hopefully it fit me right , otherwise the shoe is super comfy great looking

I bought the shoe as a safety work shoe because I loved the way my 978 hiking boots felt as casual shoes. However, safety boots, especially with a protective toe, never as comfortable as plain hiking boots but I was being hopeful. This is the only reason why I put 4 stars rather than 5.

They run way small. I'm a 10.5, purchased 11, & probably should have gone a full size up. The arch could use more support. I was hoping for a fit similar to the 686. If they did that, I would probably never buy a different boot. They are nice and light though. Way better than lugging around some Timberland's. Seems like a solid boot. Time will tell.

This is a good safety shoe. Lighter weight than my last pair. I appreciate the fact that the shoe comes in varying widths.
One thing I don't like is the loop on the backside of the boot. Pants catch on it and make you look disheveled. I run my laces around and through the loop to pull it up and in. That allows the pants leg to fall true.

I hate the fit and weight of safety boots, but not this one. I'm even able to run to other buildings when behind schedule.

Steel slitting factory, need tough boots. 11.5 4E, a little narrow for wider feet, toes are rubbing sides of toe box. Boot reasonably comfortable. I like the lacing system although it does take a little more time to lace up. Have only worn two weeks, can't speak for quality or durability. If they last, I would buy again but I would do 6E if available.

I bought a pair of these in size 12, 2E width in March 2018 for my job at FedEx Express and I must say they are very, very comfortable. It's now April 2019 and over the last month or so I've noticed that they are tearing near the toe area where your foot bends at the toe. I use these boots heavily in my job and they're put through the test 5 days a week, but I'm pretty disappointed that they've begun to rip open at that part of the shoe. Otherwise, these have been great for the snow/rain elements and have kept my feet dry and comfortable, but I'm unfortunately going to have to replace them soon. They're a solid pair of boots except for how they tear where the toes bend. New Balance, please fix this issuethanks!

I have worn steel toe boots for about 35 years. Other than work boots I usually wear hiking boots or sneakers. New Balance has been a favorite of mine for years but have never tried their safety shoes. It took about a week to break them in and so far I am happy I purchased them. I work on my feet long hours on and off cement. Hopefully they will last me for quite a while to where I will be a returned customer.

Used for work, on concrete floors 12 hours daily. Will definitely buy another pair. New Balance was very good to deal with.

Nice shoe. Exactly what I wanted. It would even be better if it was made in the USA.

NICE! However, both leave the bottom of my heels painful. I'm going to buy some heel cushions to see if it helps, I hope so. Otherwise, NICE!

This work boot is amazing. The relieved heel high-top allows you to slip in and out with ease while retaining ankle protection. The kick plate is perfect when on a ladder. The ventilation is cool and comfy, no sweaty feet. The grip is extremely good. My knee, ankle, and foot fatigue disappeared after two days of use. They look amazing. The shoe is light as a feather. The safety toe is useful and safe.
I had to return mine, though, because I cannot crouch in mine without the safety toe digging into my toes. Since so much of my job requires crouching, I cannot wear these. I found myself reaching for my running shoes every day.
I really wish they made a 989 without a safety toe.

The composite toe makes these really uncomfortable. The edge of it rubbed on tops of my toes which I know is common with steel toes but I didn't feel like wearing them until I built up a bunch of callouses. I also thought they were going to be all black but there's a brightly colored panel on the sole which by itself wouldn't be enough to justify sending them back, but I personally didn't care for it

The boots seemed to be extremely well-made, but we're a bit SHORT (wrong size?) and NARROW. I tried them on TWICE, but they just didn't fit or feel comfortable.

Poor designs for laces. Seems to be 1 or 2 lace hooks/holes.
The hooks for the laces need to be lower. The top one is at the very top of the boot. It makes for a goofy feel, and the laces force the tounge.
Laces that come with the boot-shoes are too small to run all the way to the top.
Not happy with this product.
Used for work, riding motorcycles and cold days.

Love the way they fit, except the safety toe is just too narrow. Can't wear them because my pinky toes are getting crushed into my foot. Change the safety toe to match your sizing right and it's fixed

I had to drown these boots to help them break in. No arch support whatsoever. I added superfeet green on top of the existing insoles. That did wonders but seems there's a slight angle causing my ankle to "collapse" when in contact with a flat surface, I added some weather stripping under the plastic heel/arch cup to correctly offset the angle.
The laces are junk for a boot. Changed them out first day. Pulled a braid out while untying.
Cant complain about the outside, rugged, waterproof and resistant to it's claims. Well the heel cutout is just a tad too low.

It's a nice boot but I've been using it for about 2 weeks and my feet are still sore every thing else about the boot is amazing the soreness of my heals really is the only problem I found but the boots there self are getting better more comfortable so I'm hoping the sore heal will eventually go away so far I love the boots and I love your guys shoes I'm in line for a new pair of shoes pretty quick here so I'll definitely use this site again
