Great construction and the all black is very modest and can be used in a professional setting. It's size is perfect for laptop and files and not much else. If you pack well you might fit a lunch in there.
The side pocket must be to carry a charger or a can of soda. I wish it expanded wide enough to Carry liter water bottle or sports bottle.
It suits me right now.

I got the smaller version and it's an exceptional messenger bag that can double as a brief case. Plenty of pockets and it fits my 13" laptop, 10" iPad, cables, and a few files perfectly. This bag provides so much flexibility. Materials are top notch, and I particularly like the metal buckles. Just be careful though. Mine are scuffed within 3 days of light usage where the silver metal beneath is showing, which is very noticeable. Other than that, again, a very good bag.

Well built and great looking. The clips that hold the flap closed are half metal and half plastic. Not a great combo. They are difficult to use. All plastic or better quality would be nice. Also an inch or two deeper and a small pen pocket would be great.

This bag offers nearly everything I needed with exception of and extra pocket or two on the inside. This is my 4th Timbuk2 bag and looking forward to my next one already.

You could say I'm obsessed with this brand. I have bought over a year or two, several bags: a medium Command, a small Commute, an x-small Messenger, a small Slingshot, and finally, this small Closer briefcase. With the Closer, I was trying a minimalistic approach to my everyday carry for work. For that purpose, the Closer is perfect in almost every way, with the only exception being the laptop sleeve. The zipper is shorter than on my small Commute, meaning that my Dell 13" Ultrabook doesn't fit in the Closer (as it does perfectly in my Commute), although it was described with dimensions capable of fitting such laptop size (and it could, if the zipper was one inch longer!). I had no other option but to use the front sleeve for my laptop, together with my writing pad and other documents. It fits OK that way. A little less secure I guess. Oh well, the bag is a beauty.

This is my third timbuk2. The other two finally bit the dust after many many years of hard use. As I'm sure is the case with many folks, I am trying to streamline my life and I saw this bag as a way to force myself to do so. It is minimalist, short on pockets and space. I knew that going in, so I can't say I wasn't warned.
The pros: gorgeous, feels great, wears great. Appears very nicely built. If you don't have a ton of stuff and you want a compact bag, this is the one.
Cons: They could add a few more small pockets on the inside of the bag with out making it any less streamlined. Literally one or two pen pockets and a single small zip pocket for things like loose change would make this bag just about perfect. Big complaint is that it says it will fit a 15" computer. Well, not my 2014 15" MacBook pro. I can force it into the back pocket but any amount of doing that over a few months will surely destroy the zipper. Lucky for me I had already ordered a new 15" MB pro and that one fits perfectly. So, for me the bag ended up being great. But be very wary. If you have an older 15" laptop, especially a mac (not sure on other brands) the laptop pocket on this bag is NOT big enough. I got lucky on that last part.
-The water bottle sleeve is small, but I found a 17oz metal water bottle that fits into it great.
Overall- love the bag. Happy to wear it every day.

This bag is almost perfect... I have 7 Timbuk2 bags and I clearly love them. I have been on the hunt for a long time for the perfect bag for day to day work that also can use when traveling for work. This comes REALLY close.
Pros: quick grab handle on top / Outside (instead of inside) pocket for water bottle - Yah! Back pocket that can slip over a suite case when traveling / easy clips with covered velcro / side pocket for keys and travel docs
Suggested improvements for the next version: Make it slightly wider at the bottom (1/2" to 1") or have a zipper along the bottom with a little extra fabric to expand the width. Need a little wider bag when traveling when using this as my carry on and end up using a more classic messenger that is a little too big and lacks the organization. Additional outside pocket to hold an umbrella or a creative slip in zipper pocket at the bottom of the bag or other side to keep it separate from the main compartment and can close it when not in use. Last enhancement to make it perfect- a couple zipper pockets (large one across the width of the bag and smaller ) on the inside when wanting to secure a couple items in the main area.
If you need a guinea pig to test - i'm your gal!

very stylish briefcase with lots of practical storage. the strap is very comfortable. The only downside is that the laptop fit guide said it would fit my laptop, but it turns out it doesn't fit in the laptop compartment. Buyer beware.

The Closer Case is an awesome bag for travel and everyday use. I waited to write my review after I returned from my trip. I took this bag along with me to see what it was capable of. I am glad to say that this bag is so multi-functional. It has many zippers and pockets and also a area to slip the bag over your luggage handle. I had my laptop and a few other things in this bag. I felt secure with my things inside. Great handle and strap. It's a bag I will continue to carry.

This is a GREAT messenger bag. There is soo many pockets. Sometimes bags with too many pockets seem to get crowded/stuffed quickly but these pockets allow me to utilize the space as much as possible. An excellent bag for your commute to work whether you bike, drive, bus, or train.

This is a very tough and sturdy built bag. It will last a very long time. The buckles and zippers are built for toughness and will again last a very long time. There are many pockets all over this bag to hold almost anything extra. The bag is very comfortable when using the shoulder strap. It is also very convenient to use just the carrying strap on top of the bag. Any items placed in this bag are very well protected from the environment. I only wish there were a more secure pocket for my laptops power cord, it does not fit well in the pockets. Would also like a darker grey or black for the color of the bag. Other than that this bag will last a very long time as it is well built and very sturdy. Very convenient and light to use.

I have carried the Command Messenger for a few years and I love it, but was ready for a new look. The Closer Case has almost all the same features, but looks more stream-lined. One of my favorite updates is that the napoleon pocket has a bright liner so that you don't lose your things when you dig around in there. The water bottle pocket is a bit tight, so I'd love it was bigger so I could toss my bottle in there one handed. The back of the Command had a luggage pass-through, which I used a ton to slide on my luggage---the Closer Case has an update that makes it so when I'm not using the back panel to slide on luggage, it can be a pocket where I can put my boarding pass, magazine, etc. Great new bag for my collection!

Looks professional. Plenty of pockets to keep all my belongings organized. The laptop pocket is well padded and keeps my 13" Macbook protected. I also find the pocket that doubles as a luggage passthrough super handy when i'm traveling.

Well built and very sturdy bag, the zippers and buckles are extra sturdy and made to last a long time. There are many pockets for various use and plenty of storage for other objects. I like the option of using the over the shoulder strap or the carry strap, both are very convenient to use. The materials used for this bag are very high quality and will last again a long time. I use this bag to transport my laptop and it is a great fit and very secure in the bag. I wish there were better fitting pockets for my laptop power pack and the gray is not such a great color. Other than these two drawbacks this is a great and very tough bag to carry any electronics in. Overall this bag has plenty of safe and plentiful storage.

This bag is very lightweight and has a sleek, black design. It looks sharp, but its simplicity keeps from adding extra weight. My only issue was hat the front buckles that secure the main area were very tight. I had to use both hands to open and even to close (force buckel secure). This is good as it keeps the bag secure, but it can also be a bit of a hassle. Other than this one gripe though, it was overall a quality product.

This is a really great messenger bag! The quality of the materials and stitching is top-notch and I can tell this bag will last and endure for years and years. The clips and zippers are made to last. It will easily accommodate a laptop, cables, and also has other pockets to keep other necessary items organized. The material is thick and while it doesn't say it's waterproof, I wouldn't be worried if I was out in light rain with my computer inside for a short time. The strap is a great length and is very comfortable on your shoulder. It even has an extra strap for more security if you are biking with it on.
The only disadvantage to this bag that I can see is that it isn't really a "business casual" bag...it's has a more sporty and outdoorsy look to it. However, in most workplaces these days, I'm sure it would fit right in-especially in California or Colorado.

This model has less capacity than the similar model i bought ten years ago . The redeeming virtue is the slip through feature for mounting on roller board luggage.

I bought this for a trip thinking it would be a good carry on and then a daily computer bag. It's too small and stiff for both uses really. You can carry a computer, cables and a wallet but not much more, so not much use as carry on. It does not expand at all. It also does not stand up which is annoying, so has to be laid flat. Finally as a cross body it's uncomfortable because , with your computer inside it, of course it does not bend or conform to the body so it's awkward and uncomfortable front or back. I have another small cross body timbuk2 and have previously had the classic messenger bag also. These are much better. Get one of those instead.

This would be good for transporting files and papers, but it's not really wide enough for books in addition to anything else that you might put in there. Very well made and good looking, but it is a limited-use bag, I think, perhaps for those who don't have a lot to carry around on a day-to-day basis. The water bottle slot is very tight as well. Expensive for a bag that will not see much action in the rotation of bags.

I really like the bag. Unfortunately the shoulder strap is way to short. If you are over six feet tall, don't plan on using this as a shoulder bag..

I like the look of it and the materials appear to be of high quality. The issue I have is the limited number of pockets/pouches designed for different accessories. Ideally I'd like pockets designed for a cell phone, sunglasses/reading glasses, power cords, mouse, phone charging cords, thumb drives, international power adapters, lens/screen cleaning supplies and loose coins. The actual number of pockets/pouches is 3 large sleeves (one that zippers shut) - one with 3 smaller sleeves inside (with one that zippers shut), a small, thin pouch (about 9" across and 9" deep) and an eyeglass/sunglass pocket (love it!). What this means is that I end up putting most of the stuff listed above in one of the three sleeves (my laptop goes in one), which means that I have to root around trying to find what I need when I need it. I often times end up pulling most of the stuff out to find what I'm looking for.

Bought this bag hoping it would be an improvement from my previous laptop bag. It wasn't quite the quality I was expecting. It was missing a simple feature: pen slots that my previous bags all had and one of the two strap buckles doesn't snap/close smoothly/quickly. It's just not as cool and functional as I had hoped.

Great bag, well built and looks great in a suit. I was trying to replace my backpack and unfortunately once you put your laptop/charger and a notebook you are basically out of room. Even the water bottle sleeve is small. Even though I purchased the larger of the two bags. The small must be really tiny.
