Merrell's are always a good fit on my feet - it's why I buy them. I got these as an all-purpose shoe - rugged enough for light hiking, but not too clunky for city walking or work. I wanted a single pair of shoes I could take on vacation. So far, these are great. Criticisms: the leather is thick and doesn't breathe much. The tongue is not gusseted. The sole is not as tough as a proper hiking boot. These are all minor issues that are expected compromises for a do it all shoe. I'm happy with the purchase, if they prove durable, which merrell's usually do.

I used to wear normal width shoes, but began developing hammertoe. I then went to and EE width. Eventually they weren't wide enough so I began wearing 4E's. As we age our foot tends to get wider and they just don't make nice looking shoes for wider feet. Sadly, Merrell doesn't make 4E's either. Their Moab Vent's are probably the best shoe I've ever owned, but I can't wear them any more because they don't make them wide enough. I have however found that if I go a half size up, some styles still allow me to wear a EE width. Moab Vent is not one of them, however this Moab Adventure Lace is. In a wide width with just that little bit of extra length, the toe box is cut in such a way that it doesn't rub the end of my little toes or cause them to curl in. So, if you're like me and you need a little more width than what a EE generally provides try a different style and a half size up and you might find you have just enough room. These shoes are extremely comfortable as all Merrell's seem to be. The Vibram sole provides lots of cushion and support. When coupled with a orthotic or other insert they're just about perfect. I do however wish they had a bit more ventilation. My feet do tend to get warm in them during warm days or when doing a lot of activity. The boulder color is alright, but doesn't quite match that in the picture. It's more like mossy tan boulder laying in a river rather than the lighter color in the picture. Overall, a great shoe and glad I found a Merrell style that fits.

The boulder color is different from what the pictures show. Real color is a little greenish.

As sized, tough vibram sole much appreciated with leather uppers. ALL shoe manufacturers have forgotten how well leather conforms to the feet and breaths. Plain leather without the lining is some of the best breathing toughest comfortable stuff around. Though you can't find leather without lining anymore! Only 4 stars as the heel cup is too large and the lacing at the top doesn't lend itself to holding the heel in place.

Nice looking shoe and well made. I ware a size 9 but I ordered size 9.5 as tennis shoes usually run a bit small. In this shoe I need a size 10.

Not my first pair. Just about the 4th or 5th. Usually a pair a year. I'm tough on shoes. My last pair of Merrell I bought through another purveyor and they were miss marked at 10 W and were much to tight in the toe box and unwearable.

He has very bad knees and most shoes only seem to make the problem worse. Not these, they actually seem to help alleviate some of the pain when walking and standing.

I've been wearing these for less than 2 months the shoe laces have already broken in half and the toe guards are peeling off. I hope Merrell addresses this problem soon. I count on these shoes

The shoes fit fine however the left shoe was defective in that it caused the heal of my foot to tilt to the outside. I'm guessing it was a manufacturing defect.

This is my 5th pair of this shoe. Comfortable but browsing the site, I will try some other shoes. In last two pairs I am missing nice large shoe lace grommets. The loops are a pain, never again. Also last two pairs the glued on front sole came unglued. I guess it is back to my old standart, never purchase a shoe which is not sawen.

I have purchased this shoe several times with good success. My Zappo order was for the correct color shoe but the box contained the other color available. This shoe also cut into my heel and made my knees more sore than the old worn out pair I was wearing. This is the first trouble I have had with this shoe.

I looked at a lot styles for this type shoe. I’m retired, play a lot of golf and wanted a shoe with good grip on all surfaces and did not make me look like a basketball player. I like the Merrell brand and this style's conservative look. I had an older different style Merrell in size 11 that fit fine. I ordered these at 11.5 so some Dr. Shoals would fit inside. That did not work as these fit like the old 11's. Maybe they need to be broken in? I was most disappointed in the color. The photo for this color, on Zappos, showed it to be a light brown...these turned out to be a dark ruddy brown. I still like the style of the shoe so I am going to keep them. As a foot note I ordered a black pair, in the same style, in a 12 and if they are any larger than the 11.5 I can't tell it!

I bought this pair to walk my dog on wet grass in the morning and under the rain. The shoe itself is comfy, but the sole is designed more for cross country walks on dirt trails and is thus not as comfortable on hard surfaces such as sidewalks and pavements. The sole appears to offer good traction for people walking mostly on dirt trails. On sidewalks, I feel the deep indentations of the sole while walking.

I have owned four pair over the last five years, and they are nearly the perfect shoe for business-casual work where I have to walk all over campus to meetings. Very comfortable out of the box. Excellent in snow and ice. The issue is with durability. Every pair has seen the sole start to come unglued after six months, which allows water/snow into the boot more easily. I have to regularly repair them with Shoe Goo to be able to keep using them.I suppose it is time for me to start looking for another brand.

The photo looks like the shoes are Charcoal/Dark Gray. They are very deep Black and that's not the color I was looking for. Also, the black dye has rubbed-off on the tissue paper that the shoes are wrapped in. So there's a problem with the dye not being fully dry or it has a rub resistance problem.

For some reason my feet always hurt when I get a new pair of merrells. The arch of my foot just feels destroyed. No pain in new running shoes though. Weird.

I normally wear a 9 1/2 or 10. I had to go up to an 11 in this shoe. They are comfortable. I'm hoping after they get broke in I'm hoping they will feel better.

I've been wearing 8.5 w for almost 20 years now and merrells for around 5 years. These fit were just a little big for my small feet. Had to try a 8 Regualr which fit okay. Maybe I just got a weird one but merrelll fixed it.

I like Merrell shoes. I have purchased at least 7 or 8 pairs over the years. I have weird feet, lots of problems. Merrell shoes tend to be wide enough that my personal orthotics can be put in with no problem. They give me enough cushion and support to allow me to walk as comfortably as possible (not very). I have to buy mens' styles in order to get the wide width that I need so my choices of style are very limited. Recently I have had a lot of problems finding a Merrell shoe that fits. These didn't and I sent them back (along with about 3 other pairs of Merrells). They were extra wide, my feet barely touched the sides of the shoes with heavy socks on. I have found several womens' styles that I really like, but they either don't come in a wide width or the wide width is not really wide, so, back I go to mens' styles. I'm bored with the choices for men and would really like some of the womens' styles, if only they were wide enough! I'm still looking...

Pointy toe area pinches the toes. The shoes are true to size and width, it's just that the toe area is too pointy for me. Another odd thing is that the heel is too high. It makes walking feel strange... like someone placed a golf ball under my heels. But my gait might be exaggerating that effect. All these might not be an issue for you. If you don't mind shoes with a narrow toe and a raised heel, then these should be quite comfy. But for me, it wasn't a good fit. Construction seems solid. These should last a couple of years under normal/casual use.
