The tongue is not gusseted or bellowed to the side of the shoe to keep water and debris out. My old water proof Merrill shoes were Moab Rover, which I could no longer find in 10.5W. The new Moabs are very similar but let water in and soaked my socks when walking through tall wet grass and mud puddles. It also lets small gravel into the shoe when walking on the shoulder of the road to avoid traffic. Which means I have to take shoes off frequently to clear debris. Normally didn't happened with my old shoes. Unfortunately I've been wearing them for about a month and can't return them. Wish I'd unlaced the shoe to look at the construction. They would have gone back. Good feature is that they fit right out of the box. No real break in required.

On Zappos site there's an option to choose the width. I choose "W" and my order reflects this. However, there is no indication of width on the shoe tongue -- only the size. No "D" or "E" or "2E".
HOWEVER, the shoes fit great. I've always found Merrell shoes to be wider and fit me well. So, I would recommend these.

With all other shoes, I need to wear EE in order to get the right fit. This is why my favorite pair of running shoes are Altras. However, it appears the wide on these is quite generous, opening up the toe box quite a bit, not just in width but in height as well. The latter is what I had the most problem with as they made the shoes quite loose and ungainly. An upsizee pair of the D width appears to be the better choice.

I've only had these for 8 months, but the cushioning feels like I've had them for 2 years.

I never buy shoes online, but made an exception for these. They were a perfect fit right out of the box. Been doing a lot of walking ( 5-8 miles a day ) they're very comfortable. The only issue I've had is on sidewalks with a very worn surface ( where the pebles in the concrete are showing ) and its raining or has been wet they are very slippery, they have no traction .

Very stiff sole limits flexibility when walking. Wide toe box is big plus. Had to buy size larger than my shoe size but same size as my sneaker size.

After three attempts, like Goldilocks, the first pair I purchased online was too big/wide; the second pair was too short and the third pair seems to fit reasonably well (although still somewhat narrow). It may be my feet but I haven't had this experience with other shoes. Also, the laces are way too short to be tied properly.

This seems like a good sturdy hike/walk shoe. The uppers could be a bit more finished for my taste so one would be comfortable finishing a nice hike/walk with a visit to a decent dining establishment. As they are, one might assume the wearer has been sleeping in the rough. Coming from Anu though I'm not really disappointed. Quality and versatility seem about the same. The Vibram sole seems quite capable. Lacing closer to the toe would improve fit and subsequent agility.

When walking in the rain today, two of my toes and the top above the ball of the foot were wet. I felt this as I was walking. I didn't walk that far - just down the street with my dog, maybe 300-400 yards. While they are comfortable shoes, they are NOT waterproof as advertised. I am very disappointed!!

Great shoes but about a month in the toe start to separate from the rest of the shoe. Other then that great shoes.

Very good hiking shoe except for the lining, lining wore out in less than a year. This shoe is a great design, then they ruined it by giving it a cheap thin lining. Would be an excellent hiker if they leather lined it.

I've had these shoes for about 7 months. I like the Vibram sole so much that it is the only sole I buy. Makes the shoe last much longer. Makes sense when you buy shoes that are expensive! Warning! If you buy these shoes, they run small in size. At least with me. Not true to size. Most of my shoes are Merrell.

This was my second pair of Merrill Moab waterproof. I noticed this pair was made in a different country. After a walk in wet grass my socks were wet in the toe. Disappointing! A year and a half later the upper of a shoe has split at one seam. Unsure about ordering another pair or trying another brand.

I bought a pair of Waterproof Moab 2's a few years back. I found that when I wore them to a monthly pistol match, the dew on the grass eventually got inside and my toes got wet. Having wet feet was something I was unwilling to accept. I figured I needed a true leather shoe or boot since I feel leather is easier to keep waterproof. So I bought a pair of the Moab Adventure Lace Waterproof shoes. Before helping set up the match last weekend, I treated the Adventures with two applications of Nikwax Waterproofing for Leather. After 4 hours of walking thru the wet grass, the entire toes of my socks were soaked. Not exactly sure how the water got it, but this is two pairs of Merrell's labeled "waterproof" that have not been. I absolutely LOVE my Merrells, right up until my feet get wet.

These are great shoes hit all the marks for me and therefore this my 7th pair. They are stylish enough for work, and rugged enough for a quick hike on lunch break. Oh and very comfortable if you spend a lot of time on you feet willing or not. I am however dissatisfied with my latest pair as the sole has started to separate form the leather after approximately 6 months. I've experienced a similar issue with a pair of Moabs I purchased in the past couple years. I hope the quality improves or I will look elsewhere for my hiking and casual shoe need.

Very light and comfortable, but neither waterproof nor very durable. After 18 months of non-hiking use, the seams are coming apart. Even before the seams failed these shoes did little to keep out moisture. Even heavy dew eventually soaks through.

Definitely inferior fit compared with my old pair, same model. I generally wear 10.5 medium. These, in 10.5, crowded my toes. I exchanged them for an 11 medium pair. The toe was a bit roomier but they still felt tight overall. Past experiences have taught that if they are not comfortable out of the box, they never will be. I had to send back the second pair as well. I decided not to chance a pair in wide. Sorrow.

I always buy two pair of waterproof disc golf shoes for Winter wear. Had to take out the insole to be able to wear these, they were that undersized. They really need a bootstrap for the way the end is designed as it takes extra effort to get them on as they are now. I will probably get Keens the next time around.

I have average-to-narrow feet but even I found these Moab Adventure lace-ups tight across the forefoot. It wasn't something I could fix by loosening the lacesthe shoe is simply on the narrow side. It's too bad because I liked the shoe otherwise, particularly the arch support. But I am returning them. I hope Merrell will address this sizing issue.
