I'm a lunch & recess supervisor at my kids' school and have to be outdoors from 10:30-2:00 in weather that feels like 5 degrees or warmer. This jacket keeps me so incredibly warm and yet, it does not make me sweat! It's also light enough for me to comfortably move around in it. I especially like the adjustable hood, adjustable side straps, and hidden mittens...it allows me to make modifications based on my needs. The BIGGEST complaint I have is the inner lining. Whoa, it sheds A LOT! We are a TNF family and have never had this much shedding. My dark colored top is consistently covered in white feathers- too much to just pick off or brush off. I will be returning this for another in hopes I just received a defective item. I love this coat so much, I hope I don't have a problem with the new one.

This jacket is really really warm. We live in Canada, so of course it has to be! You can use this in milder weather with the jacket unzipped, and colder weather all bundled up. However the front pockets are odd. They ripped in the first few days of use. I think the weird placement of the pocket is what caused it to happen because when I put my hands into the snap-button pocket, one would want to make their arms horizontal, and so the outer side seams are completely torn. Not to worry I'll stitch it back, but north face should have thought of the pocket placement more carefully. At least make the pocket higher so I can put my hands into the side pockets... All in all its a great jacket though.

I previously had a similar Marmot jacket for 10 years that I loved and it was time to replace it. Unfortunately, there was one issue with the hood on the new Marmot. This was very similar and it's been a couple of months into our Minnesota winter and so far so good. The color has a nice fleece lining which feels great against your neck. The hood is spacious, but not too big. There are two small things that I don't love about it. The zipper goes quite low and I know some people really like that, but I have to bed way over to zip it up. A zipper that starts a little higher gives you more room to move in the legs when you're walking and sitting. This feels a little restrictive when I'm sitting although technically it's a two way zipper and you could unzip it part way from the bottom. I don't want to put strain on the zipper that way so I'm not doing that but it does require a bit of shuffling around especially when I get in the car. Also, the pockets on this jacket are quite low. I do not have short arms and I feel I almost have to bend over to put my hands in the side pockets. It doesn't feel natural. Other than those two things, the coat has been wore and feels comfortable.

This coat is very warm and stylish I got a size XL, I have another coat from a different brand and my XL coat gave me some Xtra room, however this coat fits snug and doesn't give me much room under it to layer up. Still a very nice coat and I would recommend. I live in Boston so the winters can be harass and it's kept me warm and dry so this this season and last season.

Amazing coat, very warm! I love that it has a built in scarf and gloves. It is comfortable as well. I love a coat with many pockets and this coat has them warm. The only downfall is the feathers that come out. Otherwise I'd recommend it to everyone.

I love this coat so far upon trying it on. It was a Christmas gift, so it has to stay in the box wrapped for the next month. However, I used the fit per the northface website, which fitted me as a small. I'm 5'4", 120lbs of somewhat athletic/skinny build (bra size 32D), and found that the length was appropriate everywhere. However, after trying on with both a tshirt, and a crewneck sweatshirt, I felt like I was unable to raise my arms enough to put both hands on the steering wheel. The chest and shoulder area was too tight. I exchanged for a medium and now am able to lift my hands above my head without any issues. I also was unable to wear a scarf or hat with the small size, as the hood was too tight. I do not have this problem with the medium. Can't wait to unwrap at Christmas and really give it a good go.

Beautiful nice fitting coat. It weighs a ton. To heavy for traveling.

As someone who rarely leaves reviews, I just wanted to say thank you for the perfect winter coat. Winters in MN that drop to -40F leave me dreading to walk down the street to the store, not to mention spend prolonged periods with the dog, etc. This coat is a perfect cocoon and is easy to move in, plus ALL the pockets for gloves, phones, keys... The fit in the chest/shoulders is a little more snug than what I am used to, but I still preferred an XS to a S, just remember it it a fitted parka when sizing.

I moved to Chicago a couple of years ago and the process of finding a sufficiently warm coat has been frustrating. I saw this one online and then looked went into NF to try it out and I am nothing but happy. I wore it a couple of days ago in mid 20s temps and high wind during my commute and it was wonderful! I am a powerlifter and have fairly broad shoulders and I did find that I had to size up to have enough room in the shoulder and back, which means the waist and leg area looks larger than I would like - this was predicted by the FitFinder so I recommend that using that if ordering online. I bought the Olive color and it is really chic in person, I have gotten a complements already and its only November!

I wanted this coat last year. Bought it yesterday on sale in Black. Love it! Super warm for those Northern Canada winters. Love how long it is.

This jacket will last me forever. Winters in illinois are brutal and I can depend on this jacket to keep me warm and dry. The material is so nice and it is worth the buy!

This product is great for winter time especially with heavy snow and wetness. Though it is heavy, it is warm and protective against weather and does its job.

This is a substantial, stylish coat. I am just under 5'4" & 130 lbs & I found that the medium fits like a dream. This is my "I live in the Midwest & I am not messing around by buying flimsy, cheap coats anymore" coat. The only minus is that it tends to leak feathers, but I wonder if this is the nature of all coats of this caliber. I could always layer up with a windbreaker underneath.
Like some reviewers noted, this coat is heavy, but I imagine that is due to its warmth.

I was very excited about this coat however after receiving it I'm on the fence. Not sure if I like it. When I walk the bottom button makes a noise unless I button it. I'm 5'3 125 and the med might be a tad big. I have hips so I think the small would be too small. The collar is restricting but maybe it time it will loosen up. I walk to work in chicago so i needed something very warm and i def think this coat will do that. Just won't be an everyday coat. I like the hood..Very big and keeps the wind off my face.

I wanted to invest in a long-term parka that I can enjoy for years. This is definitely it. Very warm and light. I can definitely use for regular cold days. I can layer up and use it for extreme weathers or layer down for casual cold weathers. Good for snow and rain also. If I were to say any negative things is that I got a size small and it restricts my movement a bit. But all in all, I love this parka and the color is very stylish too.

I live in northwestern Minnesota, where our cold stretches (our high today is expected to be 9F) are long and the wind is fierce. I was looking for a coat to keep me warm and comfortable for daily dog romps and other outings, and this one offered temperature ratings I looked for, extended length to cover my butt, and extended sizing to cover the rest of me.
Unfortunately for me, North Face also seem to be striving for a coat that flatters as much as warms, and I *hate* the shaping on this. I have long since lost my waist, and rather than wishing for additional snaps on the belt to draw it in, I wish it didn't have any belt. The bottom of the coat flares to the point that it admits cold air when you stride; I'd have preferred an interior drawstring at the waist and maybe the bottom.
The placement of both sets of pockets is awkward--the lower, patch pockets are down at thigh-level, and the top entry is weirdly tight, while the upper set are too high. The pocket linings feel skeevy, and the "mitten cuffs" are pretty silly. I do appreciate that the cuffs extend past the sleeve of the coat, but the sleeves already extend to my knuckles, and as other users remarked, the seam placement results in a sleeve that cuts into your armpit when you reach forward (although it offers good range of movement when lifting your arm above your head, if that's crucial).
I don't care WHAT I would look like while standing on a subway platform, and I wish this coat were a little less concerned with that.

Something about the hood is awkward. It's not as comfortable to wear as the hoods on other jackets I've owned and it's difficult to get a cross-body bag over it. Other than that, it's a great jacket, although I'm not sure it's worth the extra money compared to the Arctic Parka.

This jacket keeps me warm in 10 degree weather and on windy subway platforms in NYC. It's also waterproof and keeps me dry in light showers/ drizzles. The xs is a great fit for petite forms and doesn't look too bulky. My only complaint is that the down feathers pokes through the inner lining and sticks on to whatever you're wearing inside. The feathers are extremely annoying to remove (lint rollers are useless!) and can get quite itchy too. I definitely recommend to wear light colors when wearing this jacket.

It's an expensive coat but does keep you warm. The only problem is it seems to be shedding feathers from the insulation, when I wear it the feathers end up on my clothes.

Living in Vermont where the winters are filled with mostly sub 10 degree days (and typically negative wind chills). This coat is incredibly warm. A bit stiff at first and needs some breaking in to get more comfortable. Hood is a bit large (noticeable when sitting in a car, etc.) but keeps the neck and head super warm walking around!

Coat just came. It is beautifully made, worth the money. Temp is up to 65 today so cant assess its performance in cold, but I'm sure its fine. This coat doesn't fit me. 5', and 175 pounds, classic hour glass at 40/36/44. The shoulders are tight, the sleeves are so tight at the upper arm, and the coat is tight at the hip. I was afraid I'd split the zipper. New Taupe is a horrible Army brown/olive. The hood is huge and there is no way to adjust width or height. No velcro tabs as on the LLBean jackets. But the high baclava neck is wonderful and if you want a hood that falls over you and hides your face from blizzards, this is it. The coat is very heavy. Im 70 now, so its a little too much for me to carry around and lift. But if you are young and strong, no problem. This coat wants a slim figure and some height. It was so tight that it felt good to take it off! Too bad because this is the quality I was looking for. Windproof and water proof!
