I bought this based on the reviews of others saying that this coat was really warm. Coat is VERY thin and the Omni heat does little to keep you warm. The style and fit of the jacket is great, just not functional for Minnesota winters.

I bought the lighter weight version of this jacket about two years ago and I loved it! I thought it would be nice to get a heavier version because I loved the jacket so much. Unfortunately, after wearing the jacket for about a month the white fuzzy fluff is coming out of the jacket and it looks horrible. I got the black jacket so the white fluff coming out of the stitching is really noticeable. There are three spots that the fluff is already coming out (front bottom, front shoulder, and middle back) and I am sure it will only get worse. I really don't recommend this jacket at all!

This jacket caught my attention because of the longer length. I always seem to be the coldest person in the room or on the hike, so I wanted something with some extra coverage that still allowed me to move and wouldn't cause me to overheat when being active outside. This coat does just that, and I am very pleased with it. It's a very simple and sleek design, so it's also great for casual wear. I don't feel out of place wearing it out to dinner, running errands, etc. I sized up because I wanted to be able to wear a significant layer underneath, but if you want the fitted look the product images give, I would definitely go true to size, or if you are in between two, go with the smaller size. I haven't had it very long so I can't speak to the longevity of the workmanship, but I would say it's very well made and I expect it to last for years of regular wear.

This lightweight coat is perfect. Its' omni Heat technology keeps body heat in but also dry. This was a an ideal purchase for these New York winters.

Dear Columbia Sportswear, I have this jacket in the short version and love it so I'd love to get the long version but there is only size xs in one color left. Will Columbia be making more? If so, when? And will there be more than one color choice? PLEASE make more of these jackets ASAP!! Sincerely, Elizabeth

Not quite warm enough. This coat is comfy and I love Columbia’s comfort cuffs with the thumb holes. Unfortunately it did not hold up to the first cold (30 degrees), windy day here in the Chicago suburbs. I think it’s just too thin for cold weather if you aren’t constantly moving. Otherwise a great coat! Sad it has to go back.

I have worn this coat for about 2 weeks and today the center front zipper broke. I can't get it to unzip. In order to get the coat off, I had to pull it off over my head.

I had been looking for a cute, non-down winter coat for a long time - they are disappointingly hard to find! This coat has worked out beautifully. It looks adorable, not bulky, and it's very warm (I'm typically wearing in 20-40 degree weather). The fleece lined hood is fantastic. The zipper stuck and was hard to work with at first, but has become much easier after repeated use. Highly recommend this coat.

My new Navy coat is very comfortable, has a fleece lined hood, large pockets, and is warm. It is sporty. It also works well with casual clothing. I love the longer length and the bottom zipper. A perfect coat for cooler temperatures! Love this coat!

I love this coat! Very true to size, I'm a 4-6 in womens clothing- got a size small and its perfect! big enough to wear a sweatshirt under it but still very fitting. I got the navy blue and I love the color. I was worried when I got it that it wasn't going to be warm enough because its so light weight but its very warm in the Iowa cold and wind.

Love this lightweight and warm jacket. It runs a little on the snug size. I'm a size 6/8, 145lb, 5'7 and went for the medium so I could fit another layer underneath. I love the fitted look and function. Only complaint is the side pockets are not deep enough, and my phone falls out if the pocket is not zipped.

I am really happy with my purchase. I have spent many winters cold and uncomfortable wearing the wrong winter jacket but I feel that this jacket is exactly what I need to survive this winter season! The Omni-heat lining has kept my back, arms and chest warm and the jacket length is just right...not too short or too tight across your butt/thighs.

LOVE this coat and I'm so sad that the hood is not removable. I would have definitely kept it but I would like to be able to remove a hood since I use hoods infrequently. But the hood is lined with some super soft dark grey material that most people would probably love. It seems very warm - I stood completely still outside on a very windy, 29 degree night for about 5 mn and felt perfectly comfortable (wearing just a lightweight terrycloth top underneath). This would be great for running errands on even the coldest day because you could probably go in and out of the various temps without feeling hot. Plus it's really lightweight. And I love that the channels on this coat are stitched in a flattering angled design instead of straight across horizontal. Every girl knows that horizontal patterns are less flattering - why don't clothing designers know that?!! Most of the down coats have big wide horizontal channels that make my hips look a mile wide. Don't need that. For reference: I am 5'8, 125 lbs - I ordered the medium and it fit perfectly. The sleeves are long enough and has the attached wrist warmers with a thumb hole, which would be great for days when gloves are not needed but a little something to warm the hands is helpful. And you can just push them up if you don't want to use them and they go back up into the sleeve. Hoping next season Columbia will design this with a removable hood...and in bright red!!

I ordered this coat for an outside football game that was expected to be very cold. This coat kept me warm and dry all 4 hours! It also was light enough to carry around before and after the game when I was inside and didn't need to wear it. I ordered the heavenly in the 'light cloud' color which is a putty/cream color. Not too white, not too grey. I am 5'5" and 115 lbs. and the XS was true to size. It fit well, even with a bulky sweater underneath! I liked it so well I am planning to buy it in black, permitting that Columbia produces more. They are currently all sold out of the heavenly in black.

I love this jacket. I wanted a longer jacket for walking my dog several times a day. I was attracted to this one because of the price point. I tried it on at a local store and had to have it, but it ran large. I am 5' 3.5" and 120 lbs. I typically wear a small, but it was much too big. They did not have xs, so I had to order it and I've worn it every day since it arrived! So far the temp has not dipped below 30' and I am totally warm with just a single light layer underneath. I love that this jacket is light weight and very packable. Nothing bulky about it and the fit is really flattering. The hood fits comfortably, not too snug, but keeps the wind out and stays put. The extra thumb sleeve is awesome, long enough to not cut into my hand and does add extra warmth. I am looking forward to seeing how the jacket does in the dead of winter. The only thing I would have different is maybe a couple inches longer. My 16 yo daughter also bought this coat and loves it as well. Kind of remarkable that a 48 yo and 16 yo like the same thing!

First, I just got this jacket. I haven't worn it outdoors for more than a test run and can't comment on how effective it will be at specific temperatures. I'm writing this now since no one has posted a review on Zappos. I think this product deserves 5 stars in all categories. I've had a Mighty Lite hooded jacket for several years and give it 5 stars also. For those of you who have that jacket, I want to share my experience with the 2 styles. I wasn't sure from the item descriptions that much is different except for the plush lining in the hood of this style. There's enough variation for me to keep this one. It's a bit heavier and feels warmer based on my 5-minute outdoor comparison, but it's not significantly bulkier. The plush hood is very comfy, and I'm hoping the added weight will keep it from blowing off in a breeze like the Mighty Lite hood does (neither hood has drawstrings, unfortunately). The big difference for me is fit. I need a long jacket to keep me warm from neck to thigh while commuting. While the L in Mighty Lite fit better in standing position, it pulled across my hips when I was seated. I chose XL and it has been great, although when I'm walking it feels too large in the waist even with a light sweater. I ordered X and XL in this jacket to compare fit (thanks, Zappos). I am delighted that the L fits me well for all purposes. Plenty of hip room, while the more hourglass silhouette fits much better at the waist without being too snug. No problem for me with pulling across the shoulders or chest in the L. For reference, I typically wear size 10 Columbia pants and M shirts. If you have broad shoulders, prefer a loose fit, or plan to wear bulky sweaters, you might want to start with the XL. As for sleeve length, both X and XL in this jacket and Mighty Lite fall well below my wrists when my arms are by my sides. That turns out to give perfect coverage when I reach for the steering wheel or lift my arms. Both styles have inset thumbhole cuffs that felt binding at first but are a blessing for gripping cold steering wheels and dog leashes. If you add gloves, you can wear them over thumbholes to keep out wind or just treat the cuffs like regular cuffs. This jacket also has an "extended" hemline. The scallop shape means more fabric to keep your backside warm when you sit down, which I appreciate. The Mighty Lite has a straight hemline. Finally, my computer shows the Deep Rust color as brighter and more vibrant than the actual jacket color of both jackets I received. The jackets are what I would call a true "deep rust" that isn't boring and probably won't show dirt easily. I am a Columbia devotee, so I can't compare their jackets to other brands. I do think the retail price point for all Columbia jackets I have is quite reasonable for what you'll get. I hope this review helps you decide and that you'll be pleased if you make this choice.

Purchased this coat for my college daughter to wear on The Hill at KU. Cozy warm and trim fit. She said the only thing cold on her as she walks on campus is her knees.

I've purchased many Columbia coats prior. Although I love the fit, the double zipper is of very poor quality for a Columbia coat. I'm sending this one back for a return. But it might be the same I compared it to my other coats and overall the zipper is lighter and not as sturdy and hard to engage to zip and unzip.

I was looking for a long light weight coat with fleece around the neck. Was hard to tell from the photo if this would have the fleece but it did! Can wear it over sweats or to dress up. Very nice cut. Runs a little larger than the Mighty Lite coat that I have in a medium so I could have gotten a small. I have the black and plan to ask for the blue coat for Christmas!

So I was debating on which size to get - the small or medium - because I have another Columbia coat that's a medium that felt great. But, overall, I'm glad I bought the small. The slimmer fit is very flattering and I love the dusty purple color. This will mostly be a special occasion coat, and the fact that it's water resistant is really great for the coastal NW. I love the warmth, and that I don't need another layer underneath to stay warm.
