This quickly became one of my go to pieces during winter in the PNW. I was surprised with how much wind it kept out and warmth it kept in. I found myself wearing this piece more than any of my other gear. It was great on cold, dry days as my outer layer and on cold wet days as my mid layer.

Of course it's soft, warm, breathable and so far very durable. But what I really love about this piece of kit is its length. I'm 5'8" 160 and it sits right at my mid/upper hip in size small. I will be picking up a few more like I did with the delta and atom.

Love this Hoody! The fit is athletic as stated in the specs, great layering piece under my Gamma MX. The jacket really moves with you with an incredible amount of stretch. It is much warmer than I had expected for such a light and thin piece (I don't know how they do it! Thanks Arc'teryx) The hood is nice and snug but doesn't hinder movement and is super soft as is the rest of the jacket. My favorite part is the thoughtful design of the pockets, they have a soft face against your hands but really let you vent excess heat when unzipped, genius! This, for a fleece, ranks right up there with my Atom LT for midlayer bliss!

Polartec PowerStretch is my all time favorite outdoor material, and this is a great mid layer piece made from it. Super soft on the inside, with lots of stretch for freedom of movement, and a smooth outer surface with minimal pilling. The overall fit is great, although I'll mention I tried on a couple copies of the same size, and some fit smaller than others. The hood fits well and thankfully the sleeves are plenty long. Love the colors too, my only wish is that they also made a pullover/Zip-T version of it. I know Arcteryx has a powerstretch zip in the Rho AR, but the styling on the Kyanite is much better.

Love the fit, style and weight. It will serve as an excellent layer or shoulder season piece.

I've been rocking Arc'Teryx Apparel and using their Gear for 21 years now. So I know the innovations that the Arc'Teryx Designers were known for, and I know the back-steps that they've taken regarding their loss of articulated apparel patterning.
Arc'Teryx: Kyanite Hoody Men's.
Sizing/Fitment: Fitment is true to size! Not loose, slightly snug in the belly but it does stretch significantly. You don't want a mid-base layer to fit loose like a sweatshirt. I prefer the patterning and fitment of the awesome Men's Fortrez Hoody.
Comfort: The comfort is good due to my favorite fabric Polartec Power Stretch which is even more Stretchier than before which is always a bonus! The patterning is pretty basic. But as always I do miss the old-school Arc'Teryx neck patterning that they were always known for. I would LOVE to see some Wrist Thumb Holes just like on the awesome LEAF Naga Hoody Gen 1 & LEAF Cold XZ Zip Neck SV, and especially on every mid-base layer, Arc'teryx makes. That's an important functional feature that needs to happen asap!
Quality: Polartec Power Stretch has always been the number one fabric for me that Arc'teryx has utilized over the years in different weights, but I prefer the thicker weight because it lasts longer through usage and washes. Note: do NOT put in the dryer. So I totally LOVE the new Polartec Power Stretch that's even softer and stretchier than before! Polartec Power Stretch is utilized in my favorite pieces such as the: Rho AR Zip Neck Men's & Rho AR Bottoms, LEAF Naga Hoody Gen 1, LEAF Cold XZ Zip Neck SV, Fortrez Hoody Men's, Kyanite Vest Men's. I don't care about weight. I care about proper fitment, overall comfort, stretch, warmth, styling, functionality, durability, longevity, and most importantly quality! I don't like the change to the main metal zipper pull, I much prefer the look and quality of the older YKK rounded Aluminum can pull-tab shaped metal zipper pull that was covered with a thick coat of paint which has never ever failed me.
Request: Please add Wrist Thumb Holes! Please go back to the older tried and true YKK rounded pull-tab shaped metal main zipper pull tab, larger interior pocket w/zipper.
Pros: Fitment, styling, soft and stretchy material (Polartec Power Stretch), usability, flatlock construction, new No Slip Zip concept, Medium Gray color-way.
Cons: NO Wrist Thumb Holes :( Flimsy new main metal zipper pull tab, no petite zipper garages, no exterior auxiliary pocket. Interior pocket w/zipper is too small for current iPhones with a slim case. The interior pocket and zipper need to be an inch taller and an inch wider, and the zipper needs to be at least an inch and a half longer. The interior pocket as of now you could only fit a small phone, or a Cliff Bar, or a key fob with lip balm. Arc'Teryx Designers need to anticipate future mobile smartphones sizes, which are increasingly getting larger. I also don't like having to un-zip my fleece to get an item, I much prefer an exterior chest pocket just like on the Men's Fortrez Hoody.

very good fit (177cm, 180lbs, medium wears very good, close fit). Its warm, stretchy and versatile. Wears as good arround town, to chill in the house or during outdoors activities. This was my outter layer on a 18km snowshoe hike last week in -10 C and it felt perfect.
The fabric looks fragile though and is prone to pilling. Also wish the main zipper was stronger and it tend to unzip easily but it never did during my latest hike and I was wearing it zipped up all the way and was carrying a backpack

I ordered the "Cobalt Sun" piece and expected it to look like the picture. I received the hoody and it's more of a dark teal color than a royal blue which was depicted in the picture. The only reason for my 4 stars.....

This is extremely comfortable, and perfect under a waterproof layer (I especially like the hood - makes shell waterproof hoods nice and comfortable).
Moisture management is great - and it doesn't get smelly as quickly as my other fleeces do:-)
But I really don't like the zip. It regularly drops - which is a pain when using layers, as you have to undo your outer layer to pull the zip up again. Like, the whole point is to keep you warm, not to have to keep undoing your outer layer! They call it a No Slip Zip? Hah. I'd prefer an ordinary zip please.
Also, as you notice when you keep pulling the zip up, the zip does often painfully catch on your neck skin, so you need to be careful.

I've been using the Kyanite hoodie for the past few months for commuting to my early morning rowing practices and it has been fantastic. It keeps me nice and warm even during those cold 10 degree mornings while I'm riding my bike. The sleeves and chest fit amazing, but the midriff seems slightly loose, but it is still very comfortable. I also wish the hood fit a bit better under a bike helmet but it isn't too uncomfortable

I bought this for my husband, his first Kyanite Hoody, as a present. I have one already and bought another one. I find this model very cosy and warm. We have several Arc'teryx pieces already. He hasn't worn it yet so my comment relates to the colour lampyre. From the photo on the website I thought it would be more green but opening the package it is more of a mustard colour than green. The women's colour green is apple green. I hope he likes it.

As an Owner of many Arc'teryx garments a stop at their Soho store during my first visit to New York was top five things to do!!
I had researched the Kyanite ahead of my trip from North Wales and had decided that it was a mandatory item for my hiking kit as a top garment above my Phase AR and Rho layers.
My main activity is high level hill walking in North Wales and hiking in the peaks of Snowdonia. The warmth and durability of the Polartec fabric it's often getting snagged on barbed wire and gorse is a real plus also stuffing it into a Osprey Talon 33 and having plenty of room left for waterproofs and an insulation layer is a big plus.
Back to New York: Having walked from Central Park to the Soho Store in the teaming rain I was delighted to find sanctuary in an Arc'teryx Grotto, I had read the reviews and the place did not disappoint. Great advise from the guys there regarding fit and I decided to purchase an X Large in blue. The fit was fine albeit too long on the arms but as a typical Welshman I am as broad as I am tall and short arms come in handy with long pockets!!
So in summary the Kyanite is a great hoody which will last the test of time and the Welsh Mountains, will be either tucked away in my pack or protecting me from the early winter chill.
Well worth travelling the few thousand miles.
Thank you Arc'teryx

Purchased on line without seeing first hand. I was hoping for something more robust. The fabric is quite thin and delicate. It seems well made and does fit well. However the price is over the top, and if it wears prematurely I will make it known. If it lasts I will forget about the high price.

Nice all around midlayer, warm, light and not bulky. As previously mentioned by others, this item comes with a problematic zipper. Upper part of the zipper is very raggedy and it doesn't lock. At this point it is too much of hassle to send back since it functioned okay. However, I agreed with other comments that for an expensive item Arcteryx should use quality zippers.

I really looked forward to this model, in hope it was as the old Lorum, just with a more technical hood.
I think it is a bit thinner than the Lorum (and likewise thinner than the Houdini Power Houdi).
I think the fit of this model has some of the same flaws as the Adahy Hoody and the first version of the Fortrez, at least on my body.
The fit look really good, when seeing it from the front, however, it is only snug around the front, on the bag it is lose as a dress.
All in all I find the Lorum Hoody to be superior to this, I just wish for a Lorum with a smaller hood.
