I really like this backpack. I was somewhat surprised at how large it was, but it has made my days so much easier. I can carry all of my books plus gym clothes no problem and I'm not worrying about the backpack looking stuffed or things falling out. It is a little big on my small frame, but it is easy to carry anyway.

I'm a preparatory high school student, and with that comes a lot of textbooks and the like. This backpack holds all of my textbooks and binders perfectly. The small pocket toward the front is perfect for organizing pens, pencils, and alternative office supplies. I've had the backpack for two trimesters and treated it rather carelessly, yet it only has a small tear at the very front. I'm impressed by its spaciousness and durability.

I searched for a very long time to find a backpack I could commute with on public transportation that wasn't bulky, heavy or just plain black. I was so excited when this finally came. The space, oh the space, it's absolutely wonderful!! It is the complete opposite of what I was using and for that, I'm thankful!!

My grand daughter is using the backpack at college. It has all the features that she need at college. I bought her North Face in 2011.It has a problem with one of the zippers. I will be sending it back for repairs.

I use this product for school, work, and travelling. It is wicked roomy and I love the fleece lines electronics pockets. It feels really lightweight even with all of my books and my heavy laptop in it.

I wasn't sure about buying my daughter such an expensive backpack, but this one is amazing and completely worth the price. It fits her small frame well and holds everything that she has to carry for school. Best of all, the weight is somehow distributed so that it feels much, much lighter than the same materials did in another bag!

This is a great backpack for a full day on campus. I carry laptop, books, gym clothes and lunch in separate areas. This backpack has the most comfortable shoulder padding and belts to hold it securely on your body.
I recommend this as a must have for every student.

I purchased this product as a carry on pack as I take frequent weekend trips - it has so many pockets and different sections for breaking up items! I love it! The sunglass pouch is one of my favorite features (surprisingly), I never thought I needed that until I had it.

This backpack is great for the student who likes to carry everything they own. I have a 17.5" laptop and needed a bigger bag and this was one of the top ones to appear. While the specs say the laptop compartment is for a 15", I have comfortably been able to fit my larger laptop in this space along with four 1" binders in the middle pocket. This bag makes carrying school supplies feel like nothing and it sits well on your back.

Great back pack for school! Tons of room for a commuter student! A little too tall though.

Well worth the price. Very roomy. It IS on the heavy side, due to my many books and laptop though. Still very comfortable and easy to carry around with me during my busy day.

This backpack is the perfect backpack for school. I have always struggled to find a backpack where I can fit everything I need inside of it and I finally found a backpack that works. It has many compartments and I never have to worry about not having enough room. The backing and straps are built with cushion which provides comfort. I would definitely recommend to any college student.

I love this back pack! It's really roomy and looks so cute! So many compartments... I've got this one to replace my Surge and I'm so happy I got it. I was a little worry about the size, but I'm 5"8 and it fits great!

The bag itself is very good but like many other reviewers, I have to return it. It is much bigger than it appears in the online picture, so make sure to try a real one in local store before you buy it.
The bag would suits well if 1) you are *tall* and 2) spend a lot of time outdoor or on the road (e.g. frequent traveler) and thus need to carry laptop, camera, clothes, and snack.
If you are looking for backpack for campus/office, get a smaller/lighter one.

I searched all over to find the right back pack and my journey lead me here. I watched several videos about different northface book bags on youtube (since they are usually non-bias) and this was the one I could find the most reviews on (well an earlier model) and since, at the time, there were no reviews for this pack yet since it was so new, I had no idea how to make sure if this is what I really wanted. I got the book bag and it was not only the right color it was the right fit, the right size, the right weight, and exactly what I needed!!! I am planning on buying the men's version of this for my fiance since he needs a new bag too!!!

I bought this backpack for my upcoming senior year, and transition into college, for many reasons. One - Massive space. Two - Tech compatible. Three - Durable. And all I can say is I'm in LOVE with the backpack. When I first got it however, the tallness in size was a bit of a turn off, but I tried on the pack, and fell in love. It's durable, lightweight (considering all the padding it has!) and it fits secure, even on me, and I'm a 5'4 stick. This is the first backpack I've ever gotten that has fit to me so well. I would buy it over and over again.

I ordered the womens surge transit bag because the regular surge transit was gigantic on me, but this bag is basically the same size. Also, the straps aren't very comfortable. But on the plus size, it has so many pockets and I absolutely LOVE the lay flat laptop pouch. I would recommend this bag if you're a student taking multiple classes or if you're someone who travels a lot. It's super roomy. However, I would not recommend this bag if you're shorter than like 5'6. It's super huge and extremely long. I am 5'1 and this bag goes from about my shoulders/ bottom of my neck, down to mid butt.

I really like North Face products, so when the zippers broke on the North Face backpack I'd had for 4+ years, I decided to get another backpack from them. I love the look of this backpack -- it's stylish and professional looking without being totally boring. It also has a TON of room for your stuff. I usually carry my 15" laptop, books, and charger when I commute to grad school, but the backpack also works well for overnight or weekend trips. While you CAN fit tons of stuff in there, you have to watch out for it getting extremely heavy. One con is that, as others have said, it does not stand up on its own at all and will fall down if not leaning against something. I didn't think I would care about this, but it is pretty annoying when you want to have it next to you for easy access and it just flops down on the floor. I'm also not sure how durable it will be, because the material and zippers feel less sturdy than my old backpack. I'm hoping that's just to make it more lightweight without compromising on durability, because if I spend this much on a backpack I want it to last. But we'll see.

I bought this backpack for school since I needed one that could hold my laptop, books, work out clothes, etc. I chose the asphalt grey heather/quail grey because of its subtle pink hue, but in person it's actually more of a lavender hue, which is okay with me. It has a lot of pockets and is made of high quality material, which is important to me. As far as its longevity, I am not sure how long it will last since I just purchased it, but it seems that it will endure. I enjoy a lot of pockets since it makes organization is easy, and the front two make it easily accessible for me to access things like my keys and phone. Before purchasing, I looked at other reviews, and many have said it doesn't stand or it is too big. I do agree that it will not stand on its own, but I am fine with leaning it against something or laying it flat. As far as it being too big, I think it's bigger than most standard backpacks like the Herschel Pop Quiz one I have, but it's not super huge. For reference, I am around 5'4", and it covers my whole back. It does give you the look that you are going hiking, which is something that doesn't bother me. Water bottle pockets on the side aren't as deep as I would like, which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. It can probably securely hold a 17-ounce bottle, but not the huge Hydroflasks or the Takeya ones. Overall, lots of pockets, and really practical with a student-worker lifestyle.
