I'm a 3rd year Biology major in college and I have tons upon tons of homework/books/my ipad/notes/binders/variety of pens/ lab coat oh and my laptop. So when I made the choice to upgrade to a more spacious and comfortable backpack, I searched everywhere and found my way to the northface website and searched the northface site for a few days. I kept coming back to this one and the other womens surge that is a few liters smaller. It is an investment so it took me a few days of comparing/contrasting to make my decision.
Others are right when they say that this backpack is very large on a womans body. I'm only 5'1" 130lbs to give you a visual. The backpack takes up my back torso, but I learned to be confident in it so that I can wear it everyday. No one says anything or looks at me weird which is what I thought would happen lol. My friends say it is a big backpack but it doesn't look bad.
On to the important part..the COMFORT and SPACE. It really does amaze me how much I fit in the backpack without it feeling so heavy. Of course there's some weight to it when it completely full, but sometimes i'm amazed by how light it feels when I know I have so many things in there. There is sooooo much padding on the back and on the shoulder pads, I never get sore like I used to with my old backpacks from different brands. I also really love the womens fit, the padding totally fits into the contours of my back perfectly when I adjust the shoulder straps correctly. The inside front pocket has a zipper mesh pocket which I love and the very outside pockets are divided in two and they are large enough for easy access to my phone on one side, keys (I never have to go digging for my keys anymore)and student ID on the other side, sunglasses fit great in the sunglass compartment. I honestly really love this backpack I am so happy I made the right choice, now I can stay organized this semester and have everything I need with me for my 12 hour school days. Thank you NorthFace for creating it.

I am a full time graduate student and I use this bag daily to carry all my books, my laptop, laptop charger, etc. The field I am in requires that I bring my books to class every day, so I have several heavy books to tote around on a daily basis. My previous backpack was too small, had no support (so my back would hurt), and could not hold everything I needed it to. This backpack holds everything I need and then some! The support system is great and my back no longer hurts after lugging the backpack around all day.

I spent a long time trying to determine the best backpack for me. The reason why it took so long is mainly because my laptop is 17.3" and it was very difficult to find a backpack that fit my laptop in its laptop sleeve. The women's surge transit has room for my laptop and cord in the laptop compartment. It has more than enough room for my binder, snacks, water bottle on both sides, many many pens, and textbooks. I knew that it had a lot of compartments, both big and small, but I was surprised by just how much it can hold. Despite how much I can fit in my backpack, the weight does not leave my back sore because of all the cushion for my back and shoulders. I loved how they had a women's version of the surge transit because the shape would fit me better than the original. I'm 5'6" and it would fit someone of any size.

This was a 2nd backpack purchase was for my granddaughter who is in high school. She loved her first one which is still going strong after 3 years of heavy books & computeron a daily basis. You just can't wear these packs out!! She just wanted. New color. Now she uses both Thank you for providing us with an excellent, durable, functional pack, which also provides plenty of spaces!

My teenage daughter wanted this backpack for high school. She needed something strong and dependable. Of course, being a teenager, she also wanted something stylish and the North Face brand is "cool." So this back pack fit all of her requirements! Ordering on the site was easy, delivery was quick and I was happy that there was a free return policy (which we didn't need, but nice to have). I would order from the site again and order this back pack again. She had a smaller two years ago (also North Face) and it is still in great condition, but she needed something larger. This one is great, she loves it.

I'm full time college student with not enough time to run back and forth to my car to switch out books and binders in between my classes. I had a north face backpack (31L Recon) and I loved it, but it just wasn't enough space. So being able to upgrade to the 35L Surge Transit provided the extra room I needed. It is super comfortable and the suspension system make the extra weight feel like nothing. I would definitely recommend this backpack to anyone who needs a durable backpack that can really pack in the items!

This backpack has been a life saver for Nursing school. There are so many compartments to hold everything necessary. I needed something with great back support and this backpack was the best purchase I've made. I no longer have backpack from carrying all my books for school.

We ALWAYS buy North Face backpack for back to school. They are roomy, stylish and super durable, but with my oldest going off to college we needed something a bit roomier with more pockets and laptop room. This backpack was a game changer! After purchasing this, we went back and got 2 more!! One for my husband for work and one for my high school senior daughter!!

This backpack is great. It completely fits all of my school textbooks and binders during the school week, and then I can use the bag as a weekender which fits clothes comfortably.

I use this backpack for all of my studies as a college student. It is comfortable and practical for me as I bike all around campus. This backpack provides a great way to organize and transport all my important books, folders, supplies, and more. It takes pressure off of my back and I don't even notice it despite my constant traveling around!

roomy, comfortable backpack. ideal for an urban commuter or student. definitely on the larger side, but it fits a 15-inch laptop, books, and a lunch bag with plenty of room to spare. it's well-designed and not too bulky, and there's plenty of pockets for practical organization. great for anyone who has to walk longer distances for their commute and is looking for a stylish, roomy bag that provides ample back support.

Great for school and there's so much room for all of my books! The last one I had didn't have a lot of room so I decided to go with the bigger one and I love it!

I absolutely LOVE this backpack! The straps are super comfy and they fit perfectly. Which my old bags, the straps hung down too far and got in my way, but these are perfect and have foam padding for comfort. There are plenty of pockets to store stuff in. The design is so cute too!

Before buying this backpack I bought a Borealis my second year of undergrad (2010) after having the previous backpack rip apart. My borealis is still doing fine but since I fly from the US to Antigua now for medical school I wanted to get more storage. I was not prepared for the upgrade between my older north face and my new one! I love the fleece lined pockets plus all of the extra pockets to organize all my material. The sunglasses pocket is a really great feature for me since I have a tendency of forgetting to bring my sunglasses case. The lay flat laptop compartment is also a really nice perk since my laptop no longer has to be in the same section as everything else. I feel like I can't praise this backpack enough it's comfortable to carry for long periods of time and allows for organized storage of a ton of stuff. I highly recommend this product!

I used this backpack for school, and I was never disappointed by its capacity or protection. I carried my laptop, textbooks, and several notebooks for the day with room to spare. Since the main pocket is so deep, there was room for a jacket or sweatshirt and lunch on top of the books. Very comfortable despite the amount of things I carried. Only (minor) complaint is that as a smaller person, the backpack looked very large on my back, especially when packed to capacity.

I love this backpack so much that this is actually my second one to own. I bought this one so I can use it for school and use my older one for travel since I love it so much. It has so many compartments to house everything I need and some are fleece lined to keep my stuff from getting scratched.

I use it every day for school. I have to carry a laptop, 4 notebooks, 2 binders, and lots of writing utensils, lunch, water for the day, and much more. Everything fits and is easily accessible. I received this as a gift from my sister and absolutely love it!

I use this bag for school and a tutoring position. I have a 15in computer that fits perfectly in the back compartment and still has plenty of room for my Binders and books in the other pocket. I was concerned about the price however the bag is worth it! It is very durable and holds up very well with the amount I put in it for being a commuter student. Would highly recommend to anyone!

I should no longer carry heavy bags in my hands. This pack replaces my purse because of it's organization and I can fill it with everything from groceries, books or other purchases and save my arms and keep my back safe.
