The bag is great - lightweight, stylish, and durable. my only minor complaint is that there is no outside compartment to throw a phone or my keys into without opening the bag. Very happy with it overall. It fits more in it than you'd think. Good value. I get lots of comments/compliments.

I love this bag for everyday use, but especially for traveling. You can carry everything you need and still be able to find stuff when you want it. I love the less sporty fabrics now being offered.

I love the bag! Just mad at myself for ordering the medium instead of large. I can't comfortably fit my lunch and paperwork for work.

Awesome bag. It took me a couple of uses to get used to how to use it t properly but for commuting in practical hands free style this bag is the best. I chose a subtle design but you can get crazy as well

Really, really like the bag! Haven't used a messenger type bag in over 10 years, so was not so sure if it would work for me today. Glad I took the chance, it's perfect. Great design and quality!

We gave our niece the Classic Messenger bag for a high school graduation present. She is using it this summer already, as she is a tutor. She keeps sending pics of EVERYTHING she can put in it and is always telling us how perfect it is to carry! SCORE on this present! ;)

I needed a new messenger bag for my grad school classes and my day job. I ordered a small, not wanting to buy a bag bigger than I needed. The outer shell is outstanding in design and quality. The interior lining is also thick and feels like it can withstand pens, pencils, notebook spirals and keys. The interior pockets are tough to access when the bag is full, but this is a by-product of the overall size of the bag.

It's about time someone made a messenger bag that was not big enough to carry a laptop; the XS is a perfect size for wallet, book, phone, sunglasses, and almost all the other small things, like keys, that I do not want to stuff in my pockets.
Perfect for a jeans and sneakers guy like me.
Can't evaluate durebility as I have only had the XS a month.

Great bag. Stiff enough to hold its shape without being rigid. But conforms/fits to your side without being floppy. Nice that it's made from recycled material. Nice color and look/feel. Like that it is water repellant. I selected the small which is perfect for tablet, camera and other bits for travel. I added an insert that I already had which divides up the main space without adding much bulk. There is space on either end to still carry a water bottle or other items.
Would always like another zip pocket or two, but that could add bulk. Also the Velcro silencers should be included.

Absolutely love it, it's all good. One very small niggle is the messenger chest strap, it collapses the main strap if anything weighty in the bag

I use it daily to carry around everything I might need - going to the office or going on fun day trips and bike rides. There are two water bottle holders on the inside, but they are TINY and not functional. Also, wish there was a little more padding where my laptop goes/back cushion. The material is great and don't anticipate it wearing down quickly. It fits my macbook pro perfectly along with a couple books/notebook/planner and plenty of room for pens and chapstick :) Overall happy with it!

This messenger was a gift for my father, who travels quite a bit for skiing and golf trips (obviously retired!). He has been using a old leather briefcase that only had hand handles. Every time he had to get something from it, he'd put it down or ask someone to hold it. He made the transition to this lightweight and very functional bag easily. It has all the right pockets in all the right places.

I have had this bag for about a month now. In that time is has served as my daily commute bag on my bike, run errands, and even carried stuff for my family of four on a short vacation.
The bag is great. Materials and craftsmanship are top notch. There are pleanty of pockets. It easily handles my daily "stuff" back and forth to the office. It carries jackest, a laptop, bike lock, and lunch no problem. My biggest load so far was a trip to the grocery store that filled the bag with a gallon of milk, and some party supplies. There was still room left. This is a large bag. On my vacation, the bag held sundry stuff for a day of sightseeing. Jackets for four, a camera, snacks, books, and whatever else the kids could cram in there.
I love the fact that this is a large bag. I'm a big guy and the bag is to scale.
What don't I like? The inside water bottle pocket is too small for a one liter water bottle. Solution there is a smaller bottle, like an 18oz stainless steel, which fits perfectly. As a dedicated two strapper for years, it has taken me a while to figure out that this kind of bag has to be adjusted more depending on the load.
All in all, I like the bag very much. I would reccomend it to anyone who wants a big bag to haul a bunch of stuff.

I am traveling in Thailand right now and I quickly realized that my thin cloth purse, with no closure or compartments, was not a good choice for busy street markets or bicycling tours. I'd never had a Timbuk2 bag before but I knew their reputation, so I bought one locally. I'm so, so glad I did.
The Classic Messenger is an amazing travel bag. As far as theft goes, it's hard to slash or snatch, and it has only one closure that fastens with loud Velcro and sturdy clasps. I love the slick external material - I accidentally set it down in muddy water and was sure the light-colored fabric would be stained, but the mark disappeared after only a few minutes. And it's so water-resistant! During the Thai New Year festival, which is basically one giant water fight where I was drenched with buckets of water and garden hoses turned on full blast, the inside of the bag stayed completely dry. I think the interior would only get wet if the bag were completely submerged, since there are slight gaps at either edge of the opening.
I do wish it were a little more roomy inside, though I'm not sure how that could be achieved without sacrificing other benefits. For example, the firm and narrow internal compartments made it very easy to glance into the bag and grab exactly what I needed - they kept all my things organized exactly as I put them in. I could easily carry several devices, my pocketbook and journal, some travel essentials like sunscreen and hand sanitizer, and some layers for when it got cold.
I have tried the bag for two other use cases, commuting and biking. I was able to carry my 15-inch Macbook and charger and other work necessities, though the weight made the strap dig uncomfortably into my shoulder. (I think that's just what happens with messenger bags.) For biking, I definitely wouldn't recommend riding without the optional strap that secures it to your back. Since I bought the bag in a rush, I didn't even find the strap until after I'd already tried to bike with the bag and found its swinging weight very distracting. I haven't yet tried to bike with the strap.

This bag is pretty great. It is super lightweight and looks good (I got the twill). I have two Timbuk2 bags and this one is larger and by far more comfortable.
I have t had it long enough to test durability or the extent to which it is waterproof but it seems pretty sturdy so I'm not worried.
I work two jobs and it's very roomy so I can carry around quite a bit and not have to worry about it all fitting.

the size (small) was perfect for me (5'2''). i love this bag! i use it daily everywhere i go. it fits my laptop, papers and other personal items. i actually got this bag originally to convert it into a diaper bag when my baby is born (still planning on it). i wanted something that didn't look tacky or scream "DIAPER BAG." i also didn't want a huge bulky bag. i know timbuk2 sells a diaper bag but they only offer it one size, which is bigger than i'd like.
the velcro on this bag makes a loud noise when it opens, which is not ideal for sleeping baby. so i plan on buying some cheap velcro patches to cover it up. good thing is the bag comes with both velcro and buckles to secure the front flap, so i can just use the buckles instead of the velcro.

I find the bottom could at least have an option for more padding. I carry my camera in the bag and it requires that I set down the bag a bit more carefully without any kind of padding at the bottom.

I've had several messengers, each of them has served me well over several years. Every few years I pick up a new one, as the new fabrics and colors keep me going back for more! These bags are incredibly durable and the quality is second to none. The only thing that could improve this bag is a document pocket on the back similar to the one on the TSA messenger (had that one in black and grey)...

I have a new Classic Messenger bag. This is my very first Timbuk2 bag, so I won't be comparing this product to previous versions. It is also my first ever messenger bag. I am a commuting cyclist and I thought I would try a messenger bag rather than a backpack for once. I had my bag custom made since I am left-handed. The product itself turned out beautifully! The colors I chose are as vibrant in actuality as they were on screen. The stitching looks solid and the entire thing is very well constructed. I have no issues with the strap width and I like how soft they are compared to other bags I've handled. I was hoping that the internal water bottle pockets would actually hold my thermos, but they do not. If I had one criticism, I would tell Timbuk2 to make better internal pockets. Apart from that, I love my messenger bag very much and Timbuk2 has a another happy and loyal customer! I love the Timbuk2 classic messenger bag, and you will too!
