Not as cushioned as the 1.5 but still great running shoes!

For my foot this shoe wasn't enough structural support. Excellent cushion and I almost kept them because they did have nice support on the bottom foot. I need more structure to support ankles.

I really wanted this to work with my orthotic since I need the wide toe box and narrow heel. I ordered 1/2 size up from my normal and it was too short, I had to go up another full size since they do not make 11.5, too big.

Love the sock-like fabric and thin tongue--comfortable and breathable. The generous toe box is great. I got these for walking rather than running; they are my first zero-drop shoes, and I can certainly feel the stretch in my calves. It'll take a few weeks to get used to that. I took them on a trip right away and found them great for traversing long airport concourses--nicely cushioned for hard surfaces.

Purchased this shoe along with the altra solstice and vionic miles. The Vionic Miles had absolutely no cushion in the forefoot area, but overall fit well. Comparing the Solstice to the Escalante - the escalante definitely has more cushion through the entire footbed than the solstice does. Both are flexible and allowed for good foot motion throughout the entire stride. The escalante is DEFINITELY a half size TOO SMALL. I am returning the Escalante and trying a half size bigger. Then I will choose between either the escalante or the solstice. Both are excellent shoes and fit as expected with a wider toe box, just not sure between the different cushion height just yet.

I'm new to zero drop shoes and found the Escalante to be more cushioned than I expected. It is not as wide as I was expecting but there is a lot of give to the fabric upper. I would recommend ordering up at least a half size.

Enjoying running in these and a good mix with my other non zero drop shoes. Didn't have to size up like one of the models from Altra. They are still not cute but they are good shoes. Not sure I would run anything beyond a 1/2 in them and mainly use for my mid distance runs.

I love how these shoes feel. They feel well cushioned on the road but still lightweight, without the feeling of too much structure, allowing my foot to do its thing. They're wider than my Altra Superiors, and even though my heel is pretty secure, the sole goes a little wider than I would like for my very narrow foot. It would be helpful if Altra could provide width information on its website that compares the model widths to make it easier to buy online.

Ordered these for everyday wear and, as other reviewers note, they are super-comfortable straight out of the box. I also understand some reviewers who note that they don't seem very sturdy - thin rubber material for the upper and tongue. They fit my orthotics. Major problem, though, is they squeak terribly. I've worn them too much to return, so trying to ignore the squeakiness. I may try a different color to see if I get the same problem, but then I might be out twice as much $$!

These shoes are very stylish and feel great. However they do not seem to give enough cushioning for long runs on hard surfaces, so sadly they must return. They would be great for walking or travel shoes though!

Love the look and feel. Overall ran too big. May try 1/2 size smaller. I usually wear 9.5 in all running shoes. Will try a 9. I have a wide toe bed and these were very roomy and narrow fitting to the heel.

Love the look of these shoes, but there was a large amount of padding in the heel area that was uncomfortable for me. I am not a runner- I just like zero-drop athletic shoes for working out at the gym and everyday wear.

I bought these in October 2016 and have been using them as my training shoe for 10 months. They were super springy and had a great responsiveness on the road out of the box, my feet were in heaven! As they have worn in, the sole has lost some of its cushy responsiveness, but hey, all shoes do that... they still provide a good level of support/cushion for shoes that have done over 500 miles. I wondered at the time of purchase whether these would be hot on my feet in summer, and I was correct. The knit fabric upper, whilst very comfortable, runs hot. Having an extra half size and the wide toe box negates getting too many issues from foot swelling though I have had a couple blisters after long runs (18+ miles) in hot weather. Overall I have been very happy with the Escalante and will be purchasing another pair to get me through a marathon in November.

I was really hoping these would work out but sadly, I have to return them. I’ve been wearing zero drop, minimalist footwear for the last couple of years but I’ve been having some heel pain recently and wanted a shoe with a bit more cushioning (still zero drop). I usually wear a size 9 but they were way too tight. The 9.5 left me with extra length in the toes. They were also narrower than I expected. That being said, I do have an extremely wide foot, so if you have an average width foot, these may work for you.

I really wanted these shoes to fit. They are light weight the toe box is roomy and comfortable. BUT from mid shoe to the heel they were very narrow and so I had to return them.

Something was just off about these shoes. I read all the other reviews and feel slightly silly to say I did not like the Escalante. Starting with putting them on and having a hard time pulling up the rubber tongue to tie the shoes. The material is stretchy but I did not like to see my toes move through the top of the narrow toe box. Plus the fabric wrinkled when I walked.
All in all, I am not a runner and I like a more cushioned shoe like the Torin 3.5. I love Zappos and the people that help me out with questions. You order something, put down the phone and the doorbell is ringing with delivery! I am a long time customer and I never seem to be amazed at Zappos customer service. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done! So, I could say something positive in this review. Go with Zappos!

This shoe was very comfortable and I thought I would like it. Unfortunately after a few hours my feet were uncomfortably warm. Not good for people whose feet sweat because knit bakes your feet

I had the Altra Superior in the past and it was a comfortable & sturdy shoe, but not the best looking. This shoe looks better, but the material seems too stretchy and puffy in the toe box. It doesn’t seem sturdy enough for the price. I will say the color is very pleasant! I may try the Superior again. They were comfy; just wish Altra’s colors & design
had a better look!

I will begin my review saying that I was originally looking for a cute sneaker that could be worn with all sorts of outfits. Something more like a true tennis shoe. However, I have problem feet. bunions. WIde feet. A need for arch support. And joint pain. So after trying several "cute styles" in wide I decided to try Altra because I have a pair of their running shoes called Intuition 4 that I absolutely LOVE. Altra makes shoes with toe boxes that are actually shaped to accommodate toes without crunching them together! My regular shoe size is 8 or 8.5. my Intuition 4s are 9.5. In this style, the size 9 fit me. While they were just okay to fulfill the "cute" sneakers role, the toe box was just a tad to low for my liking. I also wondered if the sides of the shoe would give me enough support side to side even for every day errands etc. There is a lot of give to the knit. The final "con" for me was that I could have used a tad more arch support. So I sadly had to send these back. But I will continue to look to Altra (and Zappos!) for new styles because they are brilliant for making shoes that are shaped for real feet. I'm 51 and I'm done with shoes that aren't comfortable. Thanks Zappos for being patient with all my returns, and for your zippy service!

altra has no consistency in size. Very long and narrow shoe. Only width was in the toes. The paradigm 10 was too short and the escalante 10 was too long

These shoes are really lightweight. I like the color and style. They fit well and were comfortable when I first put them on. After wearing them around the house for thirty minutes or so, the lack of cushion and support became very apparent.

I ordered these after wearing out the Torin 2 Altras. These were supposed to be cushioned for someone who supinates and has high arches. They are NOT cushioned and I have knee pain after only a few weeks of use.
