The Escalante is by far the most comfortable running shoe I own. It's soft and plush yet still somehow responsive. I've logged a lot of miles in this shoe and it gave a stellar performance during my half marathon. The upper is so nice and soft, I had no issues with blisters or black toenails (a first for me)! I also use this shoe for traveling. It packs well, super breathable and comfortable for long days of sight seeing. I normally size up in all of my running shoes but I feel this one fit pretty true to size because the upper is so nice and stretchy. Don't use this shoe for any side to side movement. The upper is almost TOO stretchy for any lateral exercise. Other than that, HUGE fan

The shoe was good for the toes, however, the M width is too narrow. Need to have a wide.

These are my first Altras and I am so excited for them. I suffer from shin splints and I've put about 20 miles on them so far. They support my feet perfectly (I also use custom insoles). I never cared about a larger toe splay area until I ran in these a few times. Now my feet are so much more relaxed that my muscles don't hurt. Great shoes, will be buying more.

I have been an avid runner for over 30 years, I especially like marathons, and these shoes are the most wonderful I have ever put my feet in. Here is what I like: (1) number one is the toe box. These are the only shoes I have ever worn that actually give my big toe enough space. Even other Altra shoes I have tried do not give quite the freedom that these shoes do. My big toe is long and my whole first metatarsal curves in to the medial side so it is usually squished in any shoes I wear. I have a very bad knee (bone on bone due to many injuries) and I could not believe how much better I felt when I could let my own big toe help keep my foot stable! (2) I love that there is NO toe cap on these shoes. My toes all also naturally curve upward, and toe caps always seem to rub painfully on them. A toe cap may be needed for a trail shoe where there are roots, but I run in the city mostly on paved or groomed trails so it isn't needed for durability, and it is very comfortable for my toes to truly be free. (3) The sock like upper is wonderful, no seams at all to rub, it is like wearing a slipper! (4) The fit in the heel is good, I am small boned and my heels are very narrow (making my flaring toes a worse problem) and these shoes actually fit well in the heel! (5) They are very light weight, it is like there is nothing on my feet! (6) There is a surprising amount of cushioning given how light these shoes are! (7) They even look good! I have the blue, but the black and grey also look nice. I appreciate a women's shoe with NO pink, purple or fluorescent colors, just a nice neutral color. As a result, and because they are so comfortable I wear old ones for every day use, and I actually have gotten comments from others (non-runners) that hey those are nice looking shoes, and they are usually surprised when I say they are my old running shoes! All in all, a wonderful and unique shoe that has made my running more joyful.

They initially felt unusual bc I’m not used to the Escalante’s wide toe box and particular cushioning. But after wearing them around town for a few hours, and then running on asphalt and cement the following evening, they feel downright magical. I’m getting over a months-long bout of plantar fasciitis and I don’t feel *any* pain in these shoes while walking, standing, or running. However, as I said, my experience with PF is resolving fairly well.

I Bought these on a whim last March right before the Ragnar Del Sol. Inspiring is how I describe these. I ran the 24 hour race in these and never once even needed to take them off. They are so comfortable with the perfect amount of support and cushion, they felt great. It totally inspired me to sign up for my next race immediately. Not even 3 weeks after Del Sol, I ran my first ever half marathon and did it in under 2 hours! I've never been so inspired to run long distances, but these shoes did just that for me. I love them and would love to own 30 pairs of them. Thank you Altra for designing such an inspiring, comfortable running shoe.

I LOVE these shoes. The real magic is in the heel and toe box. The toe box is so roomy, my foot can spread out and I don't get nearly as many cramps as I have before with a narrow toe box. Because of this, I have always gotten wide shoes, so my toes can spread. However, this means that the heel is also bigger and always slips. These heels cuddle my heel like a happy friend and there is no slipping at all! Narrow heel, wide toe box, OMG it is like magic for my foot! Now, I am not a runner, I do a lot of walking and elliptical and lifting. These are PERFECT for all those activities. There is a springyness, the socklike outside moves with you, and they are just so comfy it's absolutely crazy!!!! So, even for non-runners, this is an AMAZING shoe!

These were exactly what I was looking for...comfort, and a wide toe box. I measured carefully and was satisfied with the fit. The style is a little different than what I was use to, but I am very satisfied with my purchase.

I am obsessed with my Escalante running shoes. I have worn the Women's One as well as the Intuition, and these are by FAR my favorite. So comfortable! They provide cushion without being overly heavy/bulky and the flexible fabric is great. Honestly, these are my favorite running shoes, and I have worn my fair share of different brands/types of sneakers. I cannot recommend these enough! Not to mention Altra has the best customer service. I LOVE ALTRA!

This shoe has seriously changed a lot about my running. I purchased it originally a year ago to use as my speed shoe and short workout shoe. It became my go-to Altra shoe (and I have a LOT of Altras!) It's carried me to a marathon PR by over 20 minutes and never fails to perform. I love the cushion and the responsiveness when I'm running. It has some slight bounce to it and they feel both soft and as if it's supporting you at the same time. They're light to wear and not too hot even in warm months. If I only had to ever chose one road shoe, this would be the one.

These shoes are amazing! I just discovered the joy of zero-drop, but the shoes I originally bought had no cushioning and were not made for wide feet. Love the way the toe box allow your bones to splay as they should. Great cushion, but not so much you can't use the ground for push-off. I'm running at least 10-15 miles a week -- in between half marathons -- and these shoes are fantastic.

I have always been a Brooks fan, however my feet started hurting a lot more and their toe boxes are getting too narrow. I went to RunAway shoe store and they recommended these shoes to me. At first I was hestitant but then after the first week I got out of bed and my feet hurt less as did my bunion my orthotics fit perfectly in them as well without adjustments. My toes don't cramp at night any more either, Thank you for making a great shoe for walkers and runners.

The knit upper of this shoe is amazing! The shoe gently conforms to the shape of my foot and there is no pressure across the bunion area. This, along with the wide toe box, means I can wear these shoes with no bunion pain! I also love the Ego midsole -- the cushion has a precise feel with a nice amount of rebound.

I adore this shoe! It's springy, bouncy, feels like you're running on a cloud but somehow you don't lose that minimalist feeling. I did have a bit of an adjustment period when I was first running in them, but then they quickly became my favorite shoes maybe ever. I've been running for 20 years, and these are just about perfect.

As soon as I put these on for the first time, I knew there was no turning back. These shoes are perfect for everything. They are incredibly comfortable, supportive, and have this wonderful bounce to them. I've suffered from plantar fasciitis and because I'm constantly in a pair of Altras, I've been able to come off my twice daily pain medication! Do not hesitate to buy this shoe! You will never wear a different brand again!

I have had many expensive pair of running shoes. No matter what pair, there is always something that I feel could be better, especially after running 18+ mile runs. These are the most comfortable running shoes I have ever worn. I cannot wait to run my next marathon in these. I LOVE these shoes. I hope they make them for years to come!!!

I love this shoe. I have worn the Torin for the last few years, but was disappointed in the updates in the newest version. I decided to give the Escalante a try and I'm so glad I did. They are lightweight and comfy. They seem even more roomy in the toe than other Altra shoes, to the point that I thought they were too big when I first tried them on. However, my feet don't slip at all when I'm running. This is the first time I have ever completed training for a half without damaging and losing toenails! My feet are happy and healthy. I hope Altra will leave this shoe alone because I wouldn't change a thing!

When this shoe was first released I thought I'd give it a try due to the fact that the sole was similar to a different brand I had tried in the past. Since then, it has become my new go-to all around shoe. I've run marathons in it, done my speed work in it, done hill work in it, and even run on gravel road/trail conditions in it. Escalante can do everything you throw at it and keeps it's shape and grip. I've ordered more pairs for my winter running season!

I have been training this summer for a full marathon and this was my shoe of choice for my training and I LOVE LOVE this shoe! It does great on the short tempo runs but also on the long runs. I used to get pain in my knees and shin splints but do not experience that anymore with these shoes. The best running shoes I have tried yet!
