I have suffered for the past 5 years with a very painful neuroma. This is the first shoe that has felt truly amazing and I am so thankful. I was able to wear them out of the box without custom insoles and my foot feels amazing.I wear these for all day comfort as well as workouts. Sad to take them off at the end of the day.

Fit perfect, narrow heel wide toe box. Really cute, but funky. I will wear these everywhere.
Uppers not very rugged looking, but don't plan to run in them. Absolutely love these shoes.

I really love the look and the lower profile than the cushioning in the Torins. But, I am not a fan of the material used. It is too stretchy and allows for too much movement in the forefoot when pivoting. The toe box is also not as deep as the Torins. Which allows for your toes movement to show under the fabric( which is soft and stretchy). Not great for cross training, but if they are used for casual everyday stuff than they will work.

If you’re looking for a zero drop shoe that’s light weight & has great cushion this is it! These feel like you’re walking on a bed of air. They are so springy & they stand up to long road runs. I love the fabric on the upper, it’s stretchy & comfortable. The toe box is huge which is part of what the brand is known for so these run true to size because the toe box is suppose to be big. They may feel too big initially because we’re use to a narrower toe box. Arch support is minimal as goes with the style of shoe. This is my second pair & my 5th pair of altras & I don’t have anymore issues with foot problems ?? #longdistancerunner

A great and comfortable shoe. I use it for playo and gym workouts. Runs 1/2 size too big. I have custom inserts in mine but the shoes are comfortable and supportive with the provided inserts. Altras are the only athletic shoes I buy. I have every model

I love these shoes - the single most comfortable running shoes ever. They run a little bigger than the Torins (I stopped wearing Torins because of modifications made to the style of the Torin3 - the hard plastic front cap caused me so much pain that I couldn’t run), so I wear my normal shoe size - 7 - but I also wear impossibly thin socks. This is the same size as my Torins were. They don’t have as much cushion as the Torins but with the overall improved comfort, it didn’t bother me and the spring seemed to last for more miles. This is my 2nd Escalante pair and they’re just as great as the first pair, which gave me 400 road miles. Oh and the Escalante is way less ugly than most Altras, too.

I really wanted to like these shoes. I have worn Altra Olympus and Torin and liked them. But they were was never as comfortable as the earlier versions. The Escalante was so light weight that I thought these would be a good change. I ordered 9.5 and 10. The 9.5 was too small and the 10 was too large and sloppy on my foot. I use the shoes to run agility with my dogs. I have RA and tendonitis in one foot. Need cushion and strong arch support. These did not have the support I need, even with my orthotic.

I am so thankful I was introduced to these shoes from a local running retailer. They feel like bedroom shoes yet supportive. I've had back problems for over 10 years and various door issues and I have tried almost every shoe known to man. These are the shoes I will stick with forever. Please don't stop making the escalate regular shoe. My toes are in heaven. I've had bunions before then never needed a big toe box. These adapt with your feet and my toes are never squished. Thank you for making the perfect shoe for my foot and back!!!!!!

I absolutely love this shoe! I've been wearing it for several years now for walking, racewalking, and running. I've used them on roads as well as Florida trails. I can't say enough good things about this shoe! Please don't discontinue it! The new 1.5 is too stiff and rigid for my liking! I much prefer the cushion and flexibility of the original!!

This is my favourite runner ever. I'm on my 3rd pair (logged over 2000 km on the last pair). The fit is great - love all the toe space - and they are nicely padded and springy feeling. They are perfect for everything except pouring rain or icy roads.
I did branch out and try the Vanish. Although I used to run exclusively in this sort of shoe, I seem to have become spoiled by the Escalante padding. As a result I tend to use the Vanish for short runs or speed work only and likely won't teplace them when they wear out.
Most recently I bought a pair of Escalante 1.5. They are very similar to the Escalante but feel a bit stiffer (or, perhaps they are just new). The lace is also really long so I have to use the top eyelets which I usually don't. Beautiful blue colour though!
Bottom line - I think that I'll just keep buying Escalantes! Please keep making them!

I absolutely love this shoe! I bought my first pair over a year ago, and recently bought a new pair for an upcoming half marathon! This was my first running shoe that had some padding but was still zero drop. I spent most of my time in Merrell pace gloves, but after getting into long distance running I realized I needed something a little more supportive. I decided to take a risk on this shoe and I was not disappointed!
The overall shape of the Escalante shoe feels natural, but still gives good support in all the right places. I have wider feet and this shoe forms perfectly to them without breaking on the sides like some of my old running shoes. The sole of the shoe is comfortable and almost bouncy, which I love because my foot never sinks into it, and it makes my foot feel nice and light. The grip on the bottom of the shoes is amazing as well. After over 250 miles, there is hardly any wear. The midsole has broken down a bit, but it is still comfortable and great for my shorter runs. I think the biggest downfall to the shoe is that the upper part of the shoe is a sock-like material, which means it stretches. When taking sharp turns, my foot will slide. Other than that this shoe is great and is something I will always come back to.

These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned, and I put MILES on them. They are light and packable, and I love their diverse functionality! The reason I originally purchased them is because I was looking for a shoe with good grip on the soles. I do a lot of cross training that requires quick lateral movement, lunges, etc., and the shoes I had kept sliding on the wood floor at the gym. The sales rep where I shopped recommended these, and they appeared to have super-grip, not to mention they were really comfortable. He told me I could also run in them, but I planned to solely use them for the gym.
That was until I tried them for running. They have revolutionized my run! I can never go back to normal tennis shoes because they feel so bulky and horrible. These form perfectly to my feet and allow me to have better form than other shoes allowed me to have. I haven't gotten shin splints since I started wearing them, and I can walk 20+ miles a day and not feel the slightest ache. (That's a factual statement based on a global trip I took.) I don't know if they're for everyone --they may require some transition because they can strain your Achilles tendon due to their lack of heel-- but I love them. They are my spirit shoe. < - like a spirit animal, but shoe form

These shoes are the most padded, cushiony, comfortable that my poor feet have ever known! I am having issues with metatarsalgia and an arthritic toe joint. Walking even for 30 minutes hurt a lot, accompanied by burning. I'd stop and readjust my old shoes several times trying to relieve the pressure, but to no avail. These shoes have helped tremendously. I am encouraged! I have taken one walk with the Escalantes and felt no pain.
The design of the shoe allows for the toes to splay out, not constricted at all. Feels excellent!
They run a half size too small for my foot; usually an 8, got an 8.5. The toe box area is wider than other shoes (very comfortable); I don't think it looks odd at all. I got the magenta color; like it!

Nice, wide, cushioned shoe. It is not supportive in the upper - fabric is stretchy, but also great for hot summer days. I really like the lower heel and wide toe box. Extremely flexible, so not good for me when running (middle age sucks), but comfy for walking.

This is my second pair of these shoes. They are the most comfy shoes I have ever had. So roomy at the toe and soft under my feet. The style is sort of clunky looking down on it, but not so much when from other peoples' points of view. Still, not exactly trendy. But they are delicious to wear. The second pair is not exactly like the first pair. The shoelaces are, thankfully, shorter. And the width is roomier at the toe, which I didn't really need. It was exceptionally roomy in the first pair. That is why I bought them. The wise "embrace the space" motto is fun, and so is the foot imprited on the sole!

This is my first pair of Altras; my husband is a long time fan but I was skeptical as he tends to like more minimalist shoes. In any case, these have enough cushion for me (I have a bit of plantar fasciitis in one foot) and feel comfy right out of the box.
I’d been wearing Brooks Adrenaline for years but in my opinion that style is less supportive than it used to be. I normally wear a 9 in running shoes 8 or 8.5 in everything else) and the 9s fit great.

I’ve been suffering with a stubborn case of plantar fasciitis. Went back to tennis 2 weeks ago with my Nike, ouch. Terrible ankle and shin pain the following day. Bought these and am SO HAPPY. Toes have space while heel is snuggly in place. Sole can flex and no pain. I have been gearing towards “barefoot” shoes and these are heaven for me. I can play tennis again.

Having a very slow recovery from
Plantar fasciitis I am now obsessed with getting my feet healthy. I plan to return to tennis and think these will do the trick. Went for a walk today and they felt great. My toes could move, my foot could bend as they normally would when I go barefoot at home. Looking forward to testing them out on the court. So far so good.

I am a true size 9 and needed these in a size 9.5. These are my Holy Grail shoes. I have been searching for a few decades for the best walking shoe and these have a toebox design that actually follows the shape of a human foot! All my previous sneakers were too narrow or pointed or symmetrical at the front, but Altra really feels like they care about comfort. I remove the insert for my own orthotic since I have very high arches. The only thing I don't like about this shoe is the look, I'm not crazy about the TV static pattern, it's like heather gone wrong imho. I wish they had alternative looks, I would buy many more if they had more versatile colors and patterns, like maybe a smooth black with white laces (like the soccer shoe look), a plain denim, leather, all off-white (like Chucks), or something feminine.

Bought the magenta, trying to find shoes with arch support, and support for torn ligament in foot. They fit great, extra room in toe. But, as far as my taste, they are ugly.

I bought these for training for a half-marathon and so far have done two 6-milers in 90+ degree weather with insane humidity and my feet were able to expand, relax and stay cool. I wear a size 10 and have high arches and occasional plantar fasciitis in one foot. These allowed me to run for an hour without hurting at all and no pain later in the day. I've never had a pair of Altras, but I think the neutral stride and 'zero' heel work really well for me. I'm not super fast in these, but I am comfortable over long distances.
