I just bought these shoes and like them but they make a very audible "crackle" sound when I walk. It sounds like cellophane. It is the top of the shoe (under the laces and over the toes) and makes a noise on every step. It is in both shoes. I assume this is the waterproofing material....My question is do I have defective shoes and should I take then back or is this normal? Will it get better with more wear? Thanks in advance for your response.

I've had two pairs of Moab's in the past and found them very comfortable. However, in the new Moab 2 Waterproof pair I recently received, I noticed the shape of the tongue was more tapered, getting narrower as it went into the shoe. Due to this the eyelet and shoestring from the last/highest eyelet pressed into the top sides of my foot, making the shoe uncomfortable to wear. In my prior Moab's the tongue was not tapered like this. I like Merrell's but this particular model is no longer going to work for me.

The shoe was well built, but fit a bit tight in the toes. I previously had a pair of the now discontinued Phoenix ventilator shoes and LOVED them. I was expecting these MOAB shoes to be more similar to those, but they were a bit more boot-like in terms of how they fit. I will be sending them back and trying a pair of the MQM flex shoes as they seem to be a bit more flexible.

I ordered Bark Brown, tan shoe with darker leather. The shoes that arrived are NOT tan, more of a greenish silver and dont match website at ALL. First order the wrong color was sent and I returned them. This order was supposed to be like website Bark Brown but its ugly. Im stuck with it now.

The Moab waterproof wide felt like it is a good shoe but it just didn't have enough room in the size 14 wide. I had to exchange them for the Goretex version.

Overall, this is a well-designed hiking shoe. However, I was disappointed to discover that the Moab 2 Waterproof felt at least a half size smaller than the Moab 2 Vent of the same size (due, I imagine, to the extra material used for the waterproofing). I'll definitely order a half size larger for the waterproof model.

I bought two pairs of Merrills at their outlet store. Both are size 10.5. The Accentor fits perfectly, but the Moab is very tight in the toe box. Even after walking around the house for an evening, I am not confident that they will break in enough to fit comfortably. I'm confused as to why two shoes of the same brand and size fit so differently. I am hopeful that I won't have any issues returning them.

I've been wearing these shoes every day for nearly a year now, at work, on my own time, and for some light hiking. They're comfortable, but finding a size that came close to fitting my foot was difficult (not unusual...I often have difficulty finding shoes that fit me well). They give good traction on rugged terrain. I'm not sure they're really waterproof, as my toes got wet after stepping into a puddle, but it was dry near my ankle, which wouldn't be expected if the water had come in from the top. More importantly, they've not been "non-slip" in my experience. Walking on any kind of hard, wet surface results in virtually no traction at all. I've nearly slipped and fell multiple times. It's to the point I'm starting to look for some hiking shoes that are truly non-slip.

The Moab 2 waterproof wide width shoe feels good but, may take several weeks for it to break in. I have not tried the waterproofing of the shoe and may not for several months so, I am relying on the reputation of the company. I do feel that the shoe is not as wide as some others manufacture's EEE width and you may want to keep that in mind. Still the shoe looks and feels well made.

Hello. I have a pair that have been excellent, as a result, I bought a second pair. The newer pair is falling apart inside the back and a sharp hard object is poking out. Is this a flaw? What should I do?

Narrower than GTX Moabs of which I own two pairs. Returning for GTX. I hope it isn't the "2" that's my issue.

The arch support was too far back toward the heel. It was about 1" further back than the peak of my arch and walking in the shoes was painful. I returned the shoes. I don't know if this is a common problem or not. First time I had worn a shoe with a fit problem in the arch area.

The left shoe leaked on my first walk in wet grass. Got a replacement pair which is fine so far. The heel cushioning is better than in the older style Moab. Durability is unknown. The wide width in Merrell is one of the few shoes which fit my wide forefoot.

I loved the look but just didn’t fit. I’ve been wearing a size 15 for many years but this one just didn’t fit. I would order a 16 if they had it. Definitely give this shoe a try.

Bought for a lot of walking on a Europe vacation. I was disappointed that the shoes are advertised as waterproof or water resistant and are not. In a small 5 minute rain, I was even under an umbrella, my feet and socks were wet. I expected better. The rain came right through the top front of the shoes.

These shoes are no where near waterproof!! My significant other's feet have never smelled bad until now!! His feet are saturated all day because they don't dry in 12-14 hours, he's had these shoes for a month and he is so disappointed, I as well am disappointed because of the smell, it's rancid! I can't stand stinky feet! Comfort would probably be rated better of it had not been for the wet feet all day!

I have purchased MOABs in the past in size 13 and they fit just fine. This 13 seemed much smaller than previous 13s. Sent back for exchange.

First of all I would like to say I do love these shoes, they are strong and the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I don't question the waterproof statement though, they are fine with a few splashes but on a sunny morning walking across dew cover grass I also come home and my socks are soaking wet. Perhaps is just the grass rubbing on the shoe but it is still dissapointing.

I had to reorder in a wider width than I usually get in the ventilated version and the wider version feels bulky on my feet. Getting used to it's bulkiness but taking a while. I'll likely stick with the ventilated version in the future as it is less like a boot and more like a shoe. Merrell was very good about the exchange.

Great fit for the wide foot but considering the life span is short and the high cost of the hiker here, it's really worth shopping around for a better deal.

They were about 1/2 bigger in length then my normal shoes. A little bulky. Probably comfortable if you can get the size that works for you.

Ive had many pairs of moabs in the past and they were incredibly comfortable. I got these recently and noticed the insole is maybe 1-2mm at best under the ball of the foot and offers no padding whatsoever. So far im not impressed at all as this current pair is leaving much to be desired over previous moabs i have owned. Very disappointed.

I got these and after wearing them for a day or so I noticed very little cushion under the ball of my foot. I pulled the insole out and found it to be paper thin. very disappointed. less comfortable than previous moabs that I loved.

Otherwise an excellent shoe, the Merrel Moab 2 is slightly shorter in the toe than the original Moab. I have been a long time Moab wearer and with the Moab 2, I found my toes hitting the front of the shoes. The new side design also makes for a stiffer shoe that does not pronate as much as the original - plus for ankle support but minus if you need to kneel a lot and get into tight spaces. If Merrel totally discontinues the original Moab, I will be very disaapointed.
