After years of wearing numerous different brands of 6" hikers I finally have found a pair that seems to meet my every need. I went to a local store an tried several different sizes before deciding on the correct size to order but when my order came they were a little bigger than at the store. And yes I tried the exact same type of hiker on at the store. It is not a overall negative comment but one that I experienced. I have worn these hikers for almost three months and can tell you they do take the normal amount of break in but after the break in period they feel just like a pair of sneakers. I will definitely when the time comes order another pair but with a half size smaller. I will update the review as necessary.

This is a very well-made boot, but unfortunately, it's a tighter fit than anticipated. (I own the Men's Moab 2 Mid Ventilator as well as the Men's Moab 2 Ventilator; I also own some Merrell casual footwear, and I thought I had the sizing down pat when I made this purchase.) (It's also a warm boot, and I suspect more comfortable in the colder weather than in the warm weather.) I suggest getting the wide version if you usually don't get the wide version; if you're already in the market for a wide version of a shoe anyway, you might want to go up half a size. Other than the fit, it's a very well made product; (I'm sold on the Merrell shoes and boots, which I've bought for a few years; the tight fit of this boot has been my one and only disappointment with their footwear.)

I am a big guy and getting older. My shoe size has changed and I need to wear a wider shoe. I like to hike a lot and need good traction and good support and think that Merrill makes just what I need to have happy feet. I have bought several pairs of Merrill's Moab design and am very satisfied.

Very comfortable boot, not waterproof though. Had to walk 300 to 400 yards through knee high grass just before sunrise. So grass was covered with dew. A hundred yards in I had wet toes. Otherwise a great boot.

Boots feel great right out of the box. It's to bad they don't last as long as I would like. I wear them everyday and only get about 6 months out of them until something goes bad. Typically the waterproof fails first.

I've been wearing the boot for 2 weeks now and really enjoy them. The wide size is the first time I have ever worn a w, and its amazing. They do a great job of keeping the foot dry and are very comfortable. The only downside is they do not vent very well and I find my foot sweats more than other boots I've had in the past.

Great looking shoe! Felt a little tight at first in the toe area but once worn for a short breaking in period it was fine.

Great shoe, advertised as waterproof so far waterproof. Being waterproof the size is a bit smaller than the regular moabs. Overall comfortable, keeps my feet dry, and dry feet are happy feet.

This is a tough review. I needed three tries to get the correct fitting Moab 2 Waterproof Hikers. My first order was the size o Ihave been wearing for every other brand for the last 25+ years- 10M. That pair was too short and narrow. I returned the pair and reordered 10.5M. Still too narrow. Returned those for a 10.5 W. These fit great! Very comfortable with good traction and arch support. Sole feels solid with a slight amount of flex which is needed for hiking uneven terrain. Very happy I stuck with it. The Zappos team members I spoke with were all incredibly helpful and knowledgeable!
I'd also recommend:
Timberland, Columbia, LLBean and Sorel

So, I've had these hiking boots for 3 years now. Over this time I've worn these boots about 90-95% of the times I've been outside. They are instantly comfortable, and especially comfortable for my extra-wide feet. I've never stepped into any footwear that was more comfortable than these, and I really am so grateful for Merrell making these. The soles are still in decent condition and look to have another years wear on them before wearing through. The lugs have recently worn to flat on the front center and very rear of the sole, but still have plenty of grip left on the sides and front tip. The rear inner heel area has worn through but is not uncomfortable at all. The real wear has come at the front of the shoe, the rubber toe cap. The cap is all but hanging onto the shoe at this point and there is a hole in one of the shoes where the sole and edge of the toe cap meet. I still wear them but it won't be long before they are unusable unless I repair them with shoe goo or some other means. With any luck the shoe and the sole will both become unusable at the same time, late 2020 perhaps? I will say the "waterproof" claim was met with serious disappointment after wearing these for about a month before going on a serious hike. I thought it would be totally fine to walk through a couple inches of water, but that was no good at all. For the rest of the day, while climbing a mountain, There was a wetness in the boot. My overall happiness with the Moab 2 is very high, although it is hard to give a 5 star review when a pretty serious claim isn't met. From reading some reviews from others on this boot, it seems I am not alone in the waterproof frustration. If you are looking for a great hiking boot that doesn't need to be truly water tight, my recommendation is to BUY THIS BOOT. If you need water tightness, either wear plastic bags on your feet when trekking through a little water, or find other options.

It's a great boot! After a few hikes, no large complaints, but a couple of minor things that keep it from a 5-star: 1) it's probably because it's a waterproof / sealed boot, but my feet tend to get toasty and I would appreciate a little more breath-ability. 2) This is a personal / fit thing, but the top of the boot tends to rub a bit on my ankle bone and gets irritated after a few miles; but again that's nothing against the quality of the boot. I really like the tread, feel very secure even with snow/mud/rocks/loose gravel. I haven't been through streams yet to try out the water proof but am looking forward as I hear it works well. Really happy with my purchase!

The Moab 2 mid waterproof wide width is a very comfortable shoe. I have turf toe and can no longer wear tennis shoes without causing pain when walking. This shoe is really comfortable on my feet and enables me to walk without pain.

I've had my boots about 2 years now and the only problem I've had are the laces are starting to fray apart. I've used them in a variety of places from work to using them in tactical situations. The tread has held up pretty good so far. The waterproofing on the boots is amazing. Would definitely buy again.

My husband has a very wide foot so he was quite surprised that these were comfortable. These were primarily purchased for a vacation in Ireland. Since it's pouring rain today and he works outdoors, he decided to wear them to keep his feet dry. I'm waiting to see how they held up.

I have had these boots for about 2 years and have hiked all over the west and also the east coast. The boots were comfortable right out of the box-no break in required. They have held up well, no wear noticeable anywhere-the quality is first rate. The only downside? On our latest foray on the Appalachian Trail we hiked in heavy rain for a day and I discovered the boots are not waterproof. Sooo, I ordered the Merrell waterproofing spray for these boots and ordered a pair of Moab 2 mid Gore-Tex boots. Stay tuned, I'll let you know how they do. I love these boots!

This light hiker is comfortable, although it doesn't offer much more support than a low-cut model.

Out of the box comfort - received on Halloween and wore them trick or treating with the kids to break in... but not sure that was necessary and surely could have used them on the trail right out of the box. Wore them on a 6 mile hike up a mountain the following week and was impressed by the grip of the sole, and overall comfort of the boot. Plenty of room in the toe box, good ankle support, and nice insole.

I purchased these to replace an earlier model of same shoe. These are similar but with slight differences. The fabric lace loops are narrower , the old pairs fabric loops wore out and I had a cobbler replace them with metal loops. May need to do same with these. The shoes are sized as mentioned. My feet can breathe well without sweating, good thing. Stability is good with decent arch support for people with standard arches. The shoes look good and has multiple color choices. The shoes protect the soles of feet during regular walks on Semi to tough terrain with light to no pack. We have had no rain so unknown about wet protection, yet.

Bought these for landscaping, mainly lawn crew. I use a name brand boot for mason work, but they are too heavy for lawn work. Both share that grey strip in the sole though, it's like memory foam, it really contours to your foot, comfort to the max. I average about 6 miles a day in my boots, and after probably 70 miles, I'm very satisfied with comfort. They are light and get decent traction too, I never feel very unsure of my footing, which is important to me. Build quality seems fantastic too. With my job leaning more toward lawn crew, I'll probably pick up a second pair to allow one to air out while I wear the other. The only problem is the same I found with every other membrane shoe I ever owned, I have to spray them down with silicone to stay dry. Every morning I walk across wet grass and my toes get wet without a spray. With a silicone spray, I get about a week to 10 days between applications, which is respectable, but i don't rely on these fancy membranes, I've never seen one work. I'd love to be proven wrong, but this is my experience. I might buy the brand name gore Tex version next, maybe I can get up to 3 weeks between spray applications.

I have purchased Merrell's in the past and always had a good wear experience. I got these just before my vacation and planned to do some hiking. Out of the box they felt comfortable. I wore them to work as a test run (I usually do about 4 miles during the work day). They were very easy on the feet and it took only a few steps before they felt like they were broke in. Going to do some light hiking with them so we will see how it goes. Happy with them so far.

I have gotten a couple of hikes in. The boots fit well and didn't seem to need a break-in. They are repelling water so far with all the rain in the north east something I was looking for. Good traction so far some mud sticks in the tread , a thump when dry clears the mud.
