I have only worn my new boots a few times. They required an insole which must be thin as there is not a lot of extra clearance. The boots seem to be breaking in well. The tread is a little slippery, at first until you wear them in. I would recommend double-stitching for forming the lasting to the sole (Just as an extra measure). I did order a half-size down, as recommended and this worked out great. Overall, I am very satisfied, and the boots fit very well. Best of all: Made in the USA!

Prior to my purchase, I spent a great deal of time reading reviewsand even in the end, I wasnt confident whether they were going to be the right boot for me.
However, once they arrived, I fell in love with them; the quality of these boots is outstanding! They didnt require much breaking in, though I think wearing thick wool socks helped. As an aside, I followed Danners recommendation to order a half-size smaller than my usual fit.
Also, I followed the advice of switching to wider laces and properly tying them. After one week of wearing them at home, my Danners hiked 32.6 miles of Acadia Park including 2,350 of rock climbing elevation. They were magnificent.
They are sturdy yet comfortable and never too heavy. Im sure it will be many years before I wear this pair outbut I do hope Danner continues making theseand with the same level of qualityas I would gladly purchase them again.

Like any quality boot, they took a little bit of time to break in. I started wearing them a little bit, every day. On top of that, I used a bit of Danner Boot Dressing once or twice a week. I had a stroke last year, and a stable boot on slippery surfaces was an absolute must. These are truly above and beyond. Fit, finish, quality boot all around. Looking forward to many years with these boots!

They feel heavy for a hiking boot at first, but after breaking them in, it feels like you just have fat feet! I really like them, and I hope they last longer then me!

Well built boot . I hope to see it last for years.
pay attention to the recommendations of sizing down. I had to send the first pair back . Which was very efficient. The 1/2 size down pair I got on reorder fit well .

I needed a new pair of boots for an upcoming trip with National Geographic Expeditions which includes hiking in Nepal and Bhutan. I'd read about Danner boots and decided to give them a try. I followed the sizing recommendations but they definitely "run big". I normally take a 8.5 but they were a bit too big. The return process was a bit cumbersome although it appears Danner is going through a system transition but all the reps were incredibly helpful on the return and replacement. I prepared to "break-in" the new boots but honestly, they were extremely comfortable from the first day and impressed with the quality and ease of first day try-on. I've worn them quite a bit now and they are ready to go and sure they will be perfect for most terrain and weather. Great quality, comfort and fit.

I had to go through some iterations to fit the boot to my foot. Sometimes I ware a 10 and others I ware a 9.5 wide. The Clovis that fit my foot was the 9 wide, I am using full length Supperfeet.
Have had high quality leather ski and work boots, have owned Whites Smoke Jumpers for 26 years. The Mountian Light is one of the only boots that I feel are to the same quality as the Whites. They have an excellent tong design that seals the boot.
If you are tired of cheep boots, I think I can recommend these boots for a long lasting boot. If these boots last 4 years, I have earned my money back. And they can be rebuilt, so they are a value I feel.
Have only owned them a short time, but feel like quality through and through. Decided to buy my wife the Mountain Pass because I liked these boots so much :) Happy wife, happy hike :)

I do not recommend these boots. The construction and materials appear top-notch contributing to the 4-star rating for style, it would have been 5 stars except for some grain break on the right boot. There is negligible arch support, nor is there a removable insole, though neither contributes to the comfort issue. There is an excess of boot liner material at the base of the tongue, when wearing the boot it wads up to about the diameter of a Sharpie, exerting pressure across the top of foot (between the second and third eyelet). Various lacing methods and insoles were tried, none of which have mitigated the issue. I've had these for a month now and it's not getting better, don't think it ever will. The issue did not manifest itself when test-wearing inside on carpet, once I started short walks with the dog it quickly became apparent.
