I am Birkenstock aficionado. I have a collection of Birkenstock shoes, sandals, and boots. I know that I must go up 1 size in a closed toe boot. This particular boot felt true to size and width once I got it on. The problem was I could barely get it on. The zipper does not go all the way up. This is a pull on boot. I could only get the boot on without socks. I wear boots in winter when the weather is cold and a sock is necessary. I would recommend that Birkenstock reconsider the design of this boot for next season and include a zipper that creates a real opening. I would have kept this boot if I could get it on. For $200 I am not wasting my money given the discomfort of putting them on and taking them off. The style is great, the lack of a real zipper is not. Birkenstock, please make this product better next season and I will buy it.

I'm totally loyal to Birks, and I love the look of these boots, but I couldn't even get my foot in the darn boot! There is a zipper on the side, but it is positioned in such a way that it doesn't open up the boot. If I had a shoehorn maybe I could've gotten it on, but I don't have the patience to mess around with that.... easy on/off is key.

I sooo wanted these to work. I ordered a Grey 37 Regular (true Birk size) and a Tan 38 Regular (since its an enclosed shoe). Sadly the 37R was just too short and narrow; and while the 38R was of right length, it was entirely way too narrow. If you are use to Birkenstock's than be prepared for this boot to fit as does the standard Narrow width. Unfortunately it is not wide enough for my feet. Color-wise the Grey boots look great, but the Tan ones look - 'dirty'. I took a pix of my other trusted Birkenstocks, size 37 open toe and 38 closed toe - both in Regular width, so you can compare to the width of this Tan Sarnia boot in 38 'Regular'. As they say, a picture's worth a thousand words...

I am exceedingly happy with these boots. I have an injury to my second metatarsal and therefore need a wide toe box in a flat shoe. These boots work well with the Birkenstock insoles, or I took them out and put in my own orthotics. I also wear correct toes with the boots. I have them in both the black and grey. I agree with some of the other reviews, that they are a bit of a struggle to put on the first couple times, until you get used to how to wiggle your foot in. I have a very high arch and slipping the boot on take a little bit of work, but there are little hooks on the top of the boots that I use to pull on. Every time I wear the grey boots I receive compliments from total strangers. I think it is because they are more visible than the black boots. In terms of rating the width of these boots, I would say they are similar width to Birkenstock sandals. So with that being said, they are wider than most other shoes. I am totally happy with this purchase and would encourage people to try them. You will get the hang of slipping them on.

Thank you Birkenstock!! for coming out with a boot that is stylish and looks good with dresses. I have a medium/narrow width foot with a very thin instep. This shoes fits me perfectly but I can see how someone with a higher instep would not even be able to get it on. I have terrible feet (former dancer) and have ball of foot pain unless I wear Birkenstock or Mephistos with the cork footbeds. These are great and now I don't have to live in my Birk Bostons all winter! Very thankful for this shoe!!

Love these boots. Feel great on, lots of toe room. Can be a little difficult to get on at first, but they seem to be getting better(or I am better at it.) As a side note, I do have thin ankles which may make a little easier for me. I do have to keep the socks on the thinner side with these. I was looking for a replacement for my summer sandles and these fit the bill. Style plus comfort works for me.

I really loved the style of this boot, it was exactly what I had been looking for. I had read the other negative reviews, but hoped it would work for me. I couldn't even get my foot inside the boot, AT ALL! No matter how I pulled on the boot or contorted my foot, it wasn't happening. I have normal size 6 feet with no issues. I believe they would have been comfortable, as most Birkenstock's are. This is purely a bad design by Birkenstock. The zipper only goes 3/4 of the way up the inside of the boot, which doesn't allow your foot to go easily into it. There should be a FULL ZIPPER so you can actually get the boot on. Back they go, I would have kept them if I could've gotten them on. Very Disappointed :(

I am definitely re-ordering this boot! So comfortable and a really cute, casual boot that I can wear with skirts as well as jeans. I ordered the Grey and it is a super neutral color. I have no trouble getting my foot into the boot. The only reason I am exchanging is the zipper on the left boot is stuck down a bit and I don't want there to be any problems in the future. Great footbed. (I do have a bit of a narrow foot - usually wear a 9 or 40 and the 40 in the Sarnia fits great! Room in the toe box but my foot does not swim in them which is a very good thing!

These are very comfy boots and look great! I have a bunion on my one foot and have a hard time wearing alot of shoes even some birks. Decided to at least try these since I have been wanting to wear boots but have been only able to wear sneakers in the cooler weather. Have only worn these a few times but so far they have been extremely comfortable. Am also excited that these are birks so I know they are good for my feet. I wore the same size in these as all my other birks. Thank you zappos for the great customer service you provide!

These boots are style-flexible, comfortable, durable, and warm! For my particular purpose of buying these shoes, I wanted a boot designed for the fall season that I would feel comfortable walking around my college campus in. I did feel they needed a bit of “breaking-in”, because they seemed a little stiff at first but softened up after several wears. I’m glad that even though this was the case, I didn’t suffer any blisters. Now, when I wear them, they mold to my foot quite perfectly, with just enough room in the toes to fit a size 9 ½. Besides serving students as myself, other individuals could definitely wear these in an office setting. Your feet would be comfortable in the boots even after an 8-hour workday. They do seem to lean towards more of a casual style. Besides being able to put as much use into the boots by being able to wear them in more than one situation, I enjoyed the fact that the grey color matches with nearly any other color. One of your biggest wardrobe problems, like me, might be the fact that I can only wear some of my shoes with certain clothes due to the color. One thing that I was worried about going into the fall season was accommodating the type of weather in the Iowa by getting a boot to suit it. This weather includes rain, generally chilly days, and perhaps even snow in the coming months. The factors I can honestly judge are rainy and chilly days. But, considering the warmth that the boot provides during fairly chilly days, I would find it reasonable if your feet fare well even during days when the temperature is below 40 degrees. I also found that this boot is resilient and can keep your foot dry under mild rain. This being said, the boot seems to simply be water-resistant. If your feet tend to get colder easier, the boot has more than enough room if you wish to wear thick socks. This may also be a helpful thing to do in the event of rain, as a precautionary way to keep your feet dry. Overall, I’m really satisfied by my purchase, and believe that these boots are going to last a long time. I’m glad to know I’ll get a good use out of them. You’ll be glad you bought them!

I’ve had these almost a year. I was really excited to get Birkenstock boots, as someone that lives in Birks all summer/spring. I ordered one size up from my sandal size. Initially they were really hard to get on. They came out with other colors this year, but didn’t address the size zipper - it would have been better as a full zip. Overtime the suede stretched to the point that they are unwearable. I got them in gray and the top is discolored by rubbing on jeans. I would not buy these again. They didn’t hold up over time, very disappointing.

I literally could not get the boot on. I don't know what that zipper is for because it doesn't open the boot up enough. I love Birkenstock and have been a long time fan. I have SEVEN pairs of various styles. These boots are really cute, and would have been very versatile because of the style and color. Maybe if you purchased a larger size you could make them work. As it is I suspect the fundamental design flaw will result in a lot of these on eBay and languishing in shoe store discount shelves.

These actually look better on than in the pic. As for ease of putting on, my normal foot was easy, my post ankle replacement foot a bit more work but I can still put them on!! LOve this boot just wish it absorbed shock more. But I think almost all Birks need that!

This is actually the second pair of the black birkenstock sarnia that i have purchased. The are extremely comfortable for all day walking city or otherwise, easy to pair with almost any outfit, and run true to size (i.e. i ordered the same size I usually get in their sandals). They are ok for the occasional light rain shower, but I probably wouldn't suggest wearing them in a down pour or prolonged rain/snow etc. Also in person the variable color change seen in the picture (at least in my experience with two different pairs) is much less noticeable.

This is a very nice-looking boot and it does have the regular Birkenstock foot pad with the arch support and the lower heel. I had no trouble getting it on, although a tab in the back would be more useful than the side tabs. The side zippers are nylon and they catch a little when they go over the zipper; I wonder if they will last. I had to return them because they were too big. I wear a standard 8.5, but I got a 40 regular because of some of the reviews. I think a 39 might might work. In other words, it felt true to size to me.

Not sure why there are so many reviews that say its hard to get these boots on. I don’t have any trouble. I sized up from a 38 that I wear for sandals to a 39 since I’d be wearing socks. No trouble getting them on with thick socks!

I am quite pleased with my birks boots! I read the reviews that they are hard to put on, I had no problems at all. They slipped right on. I wear a 42 in Birks sandals and these are true to size.

These are the MOST comfortable boots ever. I highly recommend them. I have the grey pair and love how versatile the color is. I have received multiple compliments on them.

I don’t know if I’m crazy or what, but these boots felt HUGE on me. I had to go down an entire size from my normal 7. I was swimming in the first two pairs I ordered.

Love these boots! I was looking for an every day, all weather boot for travel and these are perfect. They are cute enough to wear out to dinner with jeans, but also sturdy enough for a light trail hike or city trekking. Kept my feet warm and dry on a cold & rainy trip to Seattle. Like all Birkenstocks, they need to be broken in little by little for a couple of weeks before wearing them all day.

Great. Love Birks, so was happy to find these boots: for them in two colors, grey and the tan. They look aged, really versatile.

I wear a 39 in all Birkenstocks- I have wide fee and bunions- this boot is perfect- although others have said it was hard to get on- I have had no issue- comfortable right out of the box- on my feet 8 hours a day and these are great- just like other birks!

I was considered with the reviews but love them. I wear them under and over pants. Had no trouble putting them on. I did size up as I read. They fit great and I love the brown color. Very happy with them and I wear them often.
