I have plantar fasciitis and I absolutely live in Birkenstock sandals--sometimes even when the weather is too cold for them. I also use Birkenstock footbed orthotics when I have no choice but to put on regular shoes. I have yet to find regular shoes that can meet the support and comfort of the Birk sandals. I was overjoyed when I saw these Birk boots at Zappos, thinking that they would be the perfect combination of the Birk footbed in a stylist\h bootie. Unfortunately, things didn't work out that way. The footbed was not the Birk footbed and in fact, it provides very little support. I wear a 39 regular in the sandals, so after reading the reviews, I purchased a 40 regular since folks suggested to size-up. My left foot is longer than my right and the 40 was too short on the left foot. The length on the right foot was fine, but it was too wide. The boots also look very wide visually, which takes a bit away from their style. So, I returned them. I'm still searching for closed shoes to meet the comfort and support expectations of the sandals! I need to expedite my search because winter is fast approaching!

Have to agree with other reviewers. It's a real shame the zipper doesn't go all the way up. They're just too hard to get on! They are cute, and felt pretty comfy, but just can't deal with the tricky entry on a daily basis.

I was so sad that these didn't work for me. I love the cork footbed of Birkenstock sandals and was so happy to see cute Birk boots for fall!! Sadly they were harder to get on than a cold ski racing boot. I have slender calves and ankles and these were nearly impossible to get on. I kept them for a few days trying them on each day to see if the leather would start to stretch in hopes that they would work out for me. I think with more time and actually wearing them they would have, but for the price I couldn't risk a shoe I could never get on. I loved the grey so much too!! Once on they were super comfortable. Try again Birkenstock!!

The taupe color is not as bright and warm as displayed. They are a dingy beige color with dark shading at the toe and heel that make it look like the shoes are 10 years old and have been worn repeatedly in the rain. This is just a dirty-looking shoe, and absolutely not work appropriate as I had hoped.

Before getting orthotics a decade ago, I wore size 36 Birkenstock Arizonas and a pair of Tatami clog-style flats. I'm currently shopping for walking shoes for travel. I have worn athletic shoes on recent trips, but was shopping for something water-resistant and more stylish. I tried the Islay style in a 37 and they fit like a glove, but I couldn't even get these on my high-arched foot to see how they fit. They look gorgeous and well-made.

Can't get these on! Once I got one on it was super comfortable, but no way I can spend the time trying to get them on each day! Too bad!

Agree with other reviewers. Prohibitively hard to get on. Also the shape is pretty clunky - big rounded toe makes my foot looker bigger than normal. Returning.

I was really disappointed and, much as I hate to leave a negative review, I returned these boots. I have 4 pairs of "Birkies" and love them all. These boots have nothing like what I think of as the trademark Birkie footbed. There's no support at all. And, as another reviewer mentioned, they're just hard to get onto your feet, with the zippers serving very little purpose as far as I could tell. For this much money, I expected A LOT more boot. :-(

I ordered these boots in size 38 (Women's 8), even though I never wear a size 8--I'm always either a 7 or 7 1/2, medium width. But the size 38 fit me, although it felt a little wide in the toe box. I didn't have trouble getting these on (unlike what other reviewers have said), even with thick socks on. The deal-breaker, for me, was that the footbed inside this boot felt very weird, as though the padding was contoured to shift my weight to the outside edges of my feet--not a comfortable feeling! If it hadn't been for that unexpected wrinkle (literally), I might have kept these, as the style is great and I like the color (I ordered gray), and the quality is excellent. Maybe people who love their Birkies have feet that are different from mine. In any event, these, sadly, must go back.

I really wanted to like these since I live in my Birkenstock sandals all summer long. I have been hoping for Birkenstock to finally make a stylish boot, and was really excited when I saw these. However, my excitement was tempered a bit by the other reviewers who note that the zipper is poorly designed. It does not go all the way up to the top. I ordered them anyway, hoping that it would not be a problem for me. Wrong! I am so disappointed in the design of these. The zipper really needs to go all the way up to the top, otherwise, they are nearly impossible to get on. Really too bad, as these are cute boots and the arch support is excellent. Returning these.

They look nice but when you put them on they're huge in the ankle and calf.

Needs a zipper all the way to the top. Very awkward.

I was hoping for the comfort of a Birk sandal, but no such luck. I little too stiff for me. Had to send back

First of all, the right upper is very tight, making the boot difficult to put on. Secondly, while putting the boot on, the pull-on loop ripped completely off. Other than that, the boot is comfortable. I am very disappointed, though, and because it was Birkenstock, I threw all the return boxes and mailer away because I thought the shoes would be great.??

I couldn't get the shoe on, even with the zipper open. I don't think I have particularly weird feet, so this was surprising, especially from such a comfort brand. What gives?

This boot was not as cute as pictured. It was very big and clumsy seeming. Also I had gotten the Taupe color, which looked like light tan in the picture. It was a dirty grey color and had some marks on the boot. Also the boot is $175. Returning.

After reading all the comments about these boots I decided to try them anyway thinking that they would surely fit my feet. I ordered up one size because they were closed toe. When they arrived I tried the left one on and it fit. I never was able to get the right boot on my foot! The reviewers were right! The zipper is totally useless and the boots do not slip on your feet easily. The boots definitely need to be redesigned with a functional full zipper.

Like others have said, it's nearly impossible to get one's foot into the boot because the shaft is too narrow. The side zip does not go all the way up, so it doesn't seem to even have a purpose. Once I managed to get my foot inside (with a lot of huffing and puffing), It did feel comfortable, like Birks do. But it's just too much effort to cram my foot in there, so I'm returning them.

I should have paid attention to the reviews of this boot that say how hard it is to get on. Impossible! The zipper just opens up the ankle, doesn't go all the way to the top. Unless you have a tiny ankle front to back, you will not be able to get into this boot. I was very disappointed because I live in my Birkenstock sandals in the summer and really wanted these boots to work. Very ill-conceived design, they need to redo with the zipper going all the way to the top.

The first pair I ordered was a 37, my normal size in Birkenstock sandals. The partial zip on the ankle made it incredibly difficult to get these boots on. Since they felt a little snug in the toe box, I thought I would try ordering them in a 38. The 38s felt enormous in the toe box, way too long, AND they had no zipper at all on the ankle. They were easy to get on, but they felt like a totally different boot and much more than a size larger than the previous ones I had. Both went back, I'm going with a different style.
