Bought them hoping to replace my Trex. Wire them after we had freezing raiin. They did not grip the street and I slid several times. They were warm and comfortable but did not work as advertised. I will be returning them.

I will start with the positive. These boots are warm and well made. They are also comfortable and lightweight, I like that. Please don't buy these thinking you will have any better traction on ice. You would probably have better traction wearing a pair of sneakers. It is wrong for Merral to claim that these boots have a better grip on the ice, trust me they do not! If the ice detection on the bottom of the boots made spikes come out for traction, that would be amazing, but it does not, so what exactly is the point of a white section of the boot turning blue? You are not going to be walking along on ice, and wonder...'hm...I wonder if I am walking on ice...I know I will check the soul of my boot to see if its blue."

These boots didn't work for my narrow feet. I use orthotics and have a bone spur on the top of my left foot. Also one of the insoles was scrunched up. I am returning these.

Waterproof and warm. Larger in the toe area than necessary makes feet look huge....performs well when walking on ice.

Unfortunately I had to return today. After walking in snow the inside of boot was wet ! They are advertised as waterproof. Disappointed as the fit , warmth and traction were spot on !

I like these boots overall. They feel supportive and are comfortable to walk in. I wore them all day on a snowy travel day and I my toes were cold, which I did not expect. When I took the boots off, the insides were damp to the touch, which explains why my feet felt cold. The boots aren't super roomy at the toe, but my feet feel secure inside. I didn't slip in the snow - haven't tried them on true ice yet.

I had thought this would be a good boot for winter or late fall hiking. It is very cute, but the top front is rubber (that pushed down on my toes), and overall there wasn't the support needed in a hiking shoe (I have normal hiking shoes from Merrel that I like for seasons without ice). I will try to find another Merrel shoe with the Arctic technology but more support.

I bought these last year and wore them not a huge amount but for most of the winter. Felt like they worked pretty well and tested them out on different amounts of icy surfaces. This year when it finally was icy and snowed enough to test it out there was no grip whatsoever. I am so disappointed, I have to wear anti slip soles just to be able to walk to my mail box. I don't understand why they don't work.

I bought the boots a few months ago for the ice traction. They seem to be waterproof, and we haven't had much ice yet, so I'm not sure if they have extra good traction or not. I'm hoping they do. The boot is disappointing to me because they are very stiff and seem to be impossible to fit them so they don't slide around my ankles as I walk. In fact, as I walk in them, they pull my socks right off my ankles and into the boot. Quite annoying. It seems they are so stiff, the sole hardly bends at all. I certainly can not walk any distance in them the way they are. So far, I use them to walk from the parking lot in to work, but couldn't possibly wear them for any distance. I have had Merrell boots in the past and always really liked them. I thought these would wear on me, but they have not.

I purchased these boots last winter . They are very warm and comfortable. Unfortunately I find them very slick on wet ice or wet pavement . . The first time I wore them last year, I got caught in a snow storm and slipped on the ice underneath the new snow. Needless to say, not much wear last year. . I wore them today and hit a spot of ice and almost fell. They are fine in snow, good tread and very warm.

I love Merrell brand, and my comfortable hiking boots, shoes and past winter boots made it an easy choice to purchase this winter boot. I ordered this at the end of the season last year, so only wore them a bit. They were warm and fit me well. Hooray! Now that we have ice and snow in the Midwest, I got these out, excited to wear them on my 2-3 mile daily walks. Ugh. I have huge blisters on the backs of my heels, and I am so disappointed to find a pair of Merrells that don't fit me well. Yes, I have good socks. It's the boot. I still love Merrell but I'll need to look for another warm, winter walking boot.

I purchased these boots to feel safer on ice. Well they don't work and they also are not warm. They are so stiff that one must walk like a robot. They do seem to be waterproof so one thing works.

I found these boots in all black rather unattractive and bulky. I returned them but kept a second pair I ordered, the Thermo Chill Mid Shell Waterproof boot.

Snow hangs to the fake fur and drips down into the boot. So boot is always wet. Bad design. Don't buy unless you will wear gaiters or not go in snow.

Returned product as Arctic grip only on front portion of the sole and not on heel where you often land then slip

I will say, the boots are cute, I got the white one. They fit good. However, I am really disappointed with the grip. I wore them in the snow today and lost traction several times. I kept slipping which I found disappointing. I have other boots which are not arctic grip but do have vibration soles and they hold up much better. I bought these because I live in northern WI where gear is challenged all the time, I thought how great t would be to have something to help during icy conditions, well I didn't even get to try icy, just snowy and l lost traction. I am disappointed I spent the money on a pair of boots that do not hold up to their advertising. They did keep my feet dry, so perhaps I will wear them during the spring thaw.

I have been unhappy with this boot. I have used it on and off for two winter seasons. I find that the shoe retains a lot of internal moisture and my feet feel clammy after only a couple of hours of wearing them. I have also not found them to be any warmer than an average pair of hiking boots (that breathe better and also are waterproof). The soles are good, but not exceptional. I wouldn't recommend these boots if you need to rely on warm feet. I don't feel safe wearing them in a location where I am away from a place I can warm up quickly.

nice looking boot, fits true to size with normal socks, keep feet warm BUT they are not good walking boots. after walking to work for about 45-50 minutes my feet go numb and my lower legs are extremely tight&sore. so if you want a boot to keep you warm these are it, but a horrible walking boot (even after 3 months of wearing them i have pain each time i wear them)

I bought these. First time they leaked from the toes. My replacement they sent also leaked. They did nothing to compensate me for the second time. THESE ARE NOT WATERPROOF, WATER RESISTANT. Nothing! I worked as a correctional officer and expecting these to keep my toes warm AND dry was too big of an expectation.

I bought those boots because I work outside a lot and needed to replace my old winter boots that broke. I trusted in the name of the brand. These shoes are not warm in the slightest. I have tried them in different temperatures and different socks (I have quite a large collection of merino winter hiking and skiing socks) and never have my feet been warm more that 15 min. We are around 0 C temperatures now and my toes are freezing. My ordinary non insulated mammut hiking boots have done a better job keeping my feet warm so far. A total waste of money as once worn j can't return them.

I feel like these boots are lacking in support. One problem might be that they are not true to size, or might not be made to quality specs and lost their shape. also felt that when I was out hiking, i could feel whatever I was stepping on(rocks, sticks, etc).
I'd also recommend:
I've always lover Merrells

Terrible fit. I have always worn a size 8 in Merrell and ordered these in an 8. WAY TOO BIG! Had to pay for a new package to be shipped in since they send it in a plastic bag. Got the 7.5 shipped to me and even they are too big. They rub the heel and side of my toes. The top cuts into my ankle and my feet slide around. So disappointed that I have wasted time and money. Will have to return this second pair also.

I would give the style of the boots 5 stars but I bought them for the ice traction as I have taken several bad falls in the last 2 winters. The sole was a complete disappointment and I have returned the boots. I read the reviews before purchasing them and there were some negative reviews about the sole but everyone's experience is different and I had very high hopes. The following is what I did not like: Like some of the other reviewers stated the boots do slip drastically if there is even the slightest film of snow over the ice. It was very surprising to me how bad it was. They slip more on the snow than my shoes with very worn tread. After examining the tread more closely you can see that the tread spots that are not the arctic grip are basically totally smooth and offer no traction whatsoever. The arctic grip traction spots do not work on snow so it was really slippery. One thing I found quite unusual is that as I rolled through my step the toes always slipped. It was a strange feeling, unexpected and caused me to slip at the end of my steps even if I had not slipped on the middle of my foot. I was really trying to convince myself that I could make these work but it's not possible. In central Minnesota we can have 5 months of snow and I need boots with traction that I can rely on.

Look great, but way too much give in the heel..Tried my gel heel pads, no good, then my custom orthotics. Walked first time with orthotics...my 4 th metatarsal felt raw when I got home, and my inner malleolus was sore. Tried again today, well, got barely around corner, felt like my malleolus was rubbing against steel. Had to come home , put sneakers on, they felt like a glove. My right foot was irritated much more than left. Inside of boot seems fine. Had really wished they were a keeper but no way. I do not have specific foot problems, I just have orthotics because I believe in them. Have been a large Merrill buyer and recommender for years. I still need winter boots. And I still believe in Merrell.
