I previously owned the Speedcross 3's and wore them out trail running and doing obstacle races. I absolutely loved the support and fit of the shoe, so I was hoping not much changed with the upgrade. I have never been crazy about some of the color combinations, but I settled on the bright blue ones. I'm happy to say they are the same great shoes as the 3's. They provide excellent cushion for longer runs and races, but you can still feel the ground. I tried the Reebok Spartan shoes, and I got a ton of blisters and a stress fracture from the lack of support. I have had a lot less foot pain since I have used the 3's and 4's and no stress fractures or blisters. The 4's laces stay put, and your heel stays locked in when the are laced properly. I ran the Spartan Killington beast in them, and I was concerned about how they would drain. I didn't notice them being overly heavy when wet and while other racers lost their shoes during a muddy section running through the woods my shoes didn't budge. I highly recommend the 4's!

Best running shoes I have ever owned! To go from street running shoes to these bad boys was a little weird to get used to, and I would catch the tread too much going up-hill, but everywhere else, I have never slipped in inch! They give the best arch support y feet have ever felt, so they don't get tired or hurt after long runs. The extra space at the toe feels great because the shoe holds your foot in place so well I don't slip around in there. Favorite shoes I have, I wear them everywhere I can!

How much do I love these!?!?! Like other reviewers, I initially bought the size I usually wear in running shoes, only to find them too big. Returned/repurchased and they are fantastic! I particularly love the narrow fit - it doesn't look like I'm wearing big clunky running shoes. The only thing that takes a bit of getting used to: the treads on the toe - they make a long shoe look slightly longer, and vaguely like a cross-country ski boot. But overall, I'm in love!

These shoes work for me at gym and on trail when running. These are my 3rd pair. I notice I like them so much that I'm also wearing them as street shoes too! Will definitely buy them again.

Solomon needs to get it together with their sizing! It's simply wrong. A women's American 8.5 is not a Euro 40 2/3! The Zappos size chart has typical conversions, but then Solomon sends me a shoe that is at least 2 sizes too large. There is no way that these shoes are an 8.5, unless they are men's, but the W and the "woman in a dress" bathroom symbol really tell me they're supposed to be women's sneakers. This is the second time this has happened to me with Solomon sneakers. I really wanted to try them, but I'll never order online again.

Needed to replace long-term but now discontinued Asolos for pavement walking. Had seen Salomons in stores and thought they would be too narrow and too hard for embunioned right foot. In desperation started visual browse of all shoes for structure and balance, couldn't get wide so ordered usual size in all shoes, 7.5 B. On arrival confirmed feeling to hand and eye that there'd be no way I could get esp. my right foot into them. Tried them anyway and BOOM! once past the more rigid-feeling upper-upper, the shoe opened out into a flexible and spacious (but not loose and sloshy) front end that held without tormenting the ball of my foot, both left and right. Upper ends up holding the foot centered and balanced over the sole--an amazing feeling of security and stability. Spent 30 minutes walking around the house and on the treadmill going "wow wow wow", like others here. On first full length walk on pavement, felt like I was FLYING--I walk between 4 and 4.5 mph--I'm in my mid-50s and these shoes make my knees and feet and hips feel like they did when I was in my 20s--I cannot overstate how fabulous this feels. They are so supportive and light and springy and stable that I started scheming how to wear them to work (I teach on my feet) and ended up finding out about the Speedcross 5s, esp. the great new colors, ordered another pair, and made my second BIG discovery: not only is this a great walking shoe, it's a fantastic URBAN COMMUTING SHOE. My usual run takes up up and down 4-storey oily-wet-slippery metal stairs, uneven and often slippery pavements, through crowds dodging people and running to avoid getting hit by cars and bikes at crosswalks, all carrying a backpack weighing in between 30-35 lbs. The weight of the backpack makes the little cushion left in my knees and ankles and feet feel like lead, but again, the Speedcross shoes make me springy--I run up and down the stairs like the young people--like I used to!--and get everywhere faster and easier and without the baseline physical fatigue of the commute with the heavy pack. I didn't need the wide, and I can't imagine what life would be like without them, and I'm not a runner--definitely not a trail runner! These shoes are the fountain of youth!

This is an awesome shoe...not like any other I've found in this category. VERY comfortable and supportive...attractive, too, but in my suggested size, just a bit long. I've ordered 1/2 smaller. Thanks, Zappos for your excellent service!

I wear 11 wide and always have difficulty finding shoes that fit comfortably. These shoes fit great! They support the midfoot and the toebox is roomy. They are light weight and yet well padded. I put these on and went out on a 3 mile trial run and they were great. Very good traction also. My feet would often hurt across the top of my foot after a run, but not with these shoes. I highly recommend these shoes.

I would say they run slightly narrow, but I don’t usually wear a narrow and they fit me fine. In fact I loved the way they hug my feet. If you wear a medium to wide you might want to think twice but medium or medium to narrow should fit you fine. I also wear arch supports with all my athletic shoes because I have a high arch. The arch in these shoes was a typical medium arch. I put my arch supports in and Kazam! They were perfect! Also I had to return and order 1/2 size down. About 90% if the time I wear a 9 in all shoe manufactures but sometimes wear an 8.5. This was one of those times. I had to return and get an 8.5. The return process is painless at Zappos! Great for running on dirt trails with my dog! Lightweight, great traction -almost look like cleats! Would be good for hiking on rocks too. Great grip.

I love these shoes. They are the first "trail" shoe that I have actually used for running trails and it seems to make a huge difference.

Absolutely in love with this shoe. Upon first wear, I hiked 3 miles with a 750 foot elevation gain. The comfort and support are incredible. I have impact fractures with internal fixation on one foot; when I wear these shoes, I can’t feel my screws! If you want a shoe that will ensure you don’t have to slow down, buy this one.

I love the brand and this shoe. The lugs are deep enough to work in heavy terrain though I don't care for them on city streets so I remove them when I'm off the trail. I also love the speed laces. I am a Salomon fan and own a pair of their hiking boots and ski boots.

I love these shoes, especially once I figured out where to put the laces. They're super comfortable, the soles don't pick up rocks, and they have great support (I have high arches). I have long feet and Salomon shoes tend to run long. This time, though, I felt the size 11 was a little short and wanted a half-size bigger, which isn't available. So I switched to a size 12 and while they feel a bit long, they'll give my toes more room.

I got these to replace my old Salomon trail runners for running dog agility. This time I didn't pay for the Gore-Tex lining since I rarely run agility out of doors now. They fit like they should and provide nice support making turns and sprinting.

I have been wearing Salomon shoes for many years. I have worn the Speedcross 3 and 4 for trail and obstacle racing (5K-Ultra distance). I purchased these shoes for my Mother so that she could run her first OCR. They arrived the day before the race, and she had no time to break them in. She wore the shoes out of the box for a 5K OCR that had rocky terrain, and 1,000 vertical gain. Paired with my Darn Tough socks she suffered no blisters or any issues. She felt the shoes were comfortable and provided excellent traction. I highly recommend these shoes for OCR and trail running.

I tried something new and I am so glad I did. I have been wearing Merrell's for trail running/walking/hiking. Mine wore out and when I ordered the latest version, I didn't like them. I researched online and found these shoes, and I love them. They are not the cutest things on the planet, but at least they are not clunky. The traction on every surface is amazing. I am so happy to find another brand that has a good arch and works for my outdoor life.

These are a great trail shoe. Probably best for technical hiking or running, because there isnt a ton of cushion. Remember these run narrow.

I have been purchasing NB and Asics shoes for years, and then finally tried a Saucony hoping for a better shoe. All shoes were worn out in 3 months or less. I had purchased a low cut Salomon hiking shoe previously and it felt great so I looked to see if there was some sort of athletic shoe for the gym and outdoor activities. Found the Speedcross and I will never go back. While my first pair of shoes are still going strong (9 months of daily wear at the gym), this pair was on sale, so thought I would get a back up. Still fit well, nice cushion, and these shoes make my feet feel good, not tired or achy as some shoes do after a little wear. Now my husband and even mother own a pair, and they too are happy how their feet feel.

Against conventional wisdom, I took these from the box and immediately went on a hike in RMNP. Just six miles, but with climbing, scrambling, crossing a creek, etc. NO hot spots, and my feet felt great, which is saying a lot. I have terrible feet. They are big with flat arches and bunions. I’m prone to plantar fasciitis, so have to wear orthotics in my running shoes. Even so, these were great right out of the box. I felt stable, supported, and comfortable on a range of terrain. They are stylish enough... I’m sure they look better in a size 7. :-). Colors are nice.

I bought these shoes for hiking and they work awesome! They didn't even have a breaking in period - I just started wearing them with no problems and no blisters. They do feel narrow, which is fine because I have narrow feet. Awesome shoes that look great!

I love Salomon sneakers! They are my new go to sneakers. I am very active and have run a 10K mud run in a pair. The best and I love all the colors. I get compliments non-stop on them.

OMG how I love these shoes. I have previously purchased 2 pair of the Speedcross 3 and loved them. These are the updated Speedcross 4. Light weight, yet supportive, they fit my feet like a glove, and they look great on my feet. Perfect for my walks/running, biking and climbing. Cannot say enough good things about this shoe. My ankles don't slip in these yet I have plenty of toe room all in my regular size.

Speedcross 4's run half size small & a quarter or so narrower that what I'm used to. There doesn't seem to be much give of the fabric, so guessing if it feels snug right out of the box, then on the trail when your feel swell it'll feel even more narrow. For me, I need a little more toe wiggle room and foot splay. For reference, I wear a Hoka One One size 8 medium width and I'd consider this true to size.

Working in a hospital means that I am constantly looking for shoes that I can wear during 12-16 hour shifts. These were recommended by a coworker and I love the sleek style. The bungee laces allow me to easily adjust the shoe as needed. The dark soles are perfect. Shoes offer support, design, and stability.
