I have worn these into the *ground* over the past several years. They are scuffed and scraped, they are missing a button like the Velveteen Rabbit, and I've gotten them resoled and re-heeled once already. However, they are a daily staple, and keep getting compliments, no matter how battered they get. Their break-in period is pretty minimal, and they begin to feel like slippers in no time. A totally worthwhile investment.

I love these boots! The cognac color is perfect and goes well with everything. They are so comfortable too! I am a true 9. I purchased a 9.5 after reading reviews on how narrow the boot was since there is no zipper, but I ended up returning them for a 9 because they were just too large. The 9, although they are still slightly hard to get on and off are wonderful! I suggest putting them by the fire and soften up the leather and they will slide right on. I can't wait to purchase more Frye boots!

These are by far the most comfortable boots I've ever worn! They're such great quality, beautiful and I get compliments in them all the time. You can wear them with anything! I'm a photographer and wear them during 10 hour wedding shoots, and my feet love them. They do run a little large, I got the six but should have gotten a 5.5. I can't wait to get another pair in cognac!

I love my Melissa Buttons! I've never really worn boots before but have been eyeing the riding boots everyone has been wearing the past few years. I began a search for a nice boot this fall, and a salesperson told me how great Frye boots are. I tried the Melissa boots in my normal size 8, and it felt a bit roomy. So I sized down to a 7.5. I wore them a few times with thin socks, but they did not stretch out the way I thought they would, and they were tight on my toes in particular. I was able to exchange them for an 8. I have to wear thick socks with them, but they fit perfectly and are very comfortable! The 8s are super-easy to get on and off, but the 7.5s were extremely difficult as some people point out. (Note, the shaft size increases as the shoe size increases.) I'm so glad the 8s worked so I can save myself from the work of the smaller size. I do not find the soles slippery on a regular dry surface, but I imagine on some they are slippery. I will probably get rubber strips added, or even a rubber sole, at some point. I am so pleased with these boots as you can dress them up or down. I got them in cognac, which is a great color that goes with everything. I just wore them with tights and a black skirt to work and got several compliments. They will last a lifetime. The leather is beautiful. If you have the money, it is well worth it not to have to replace boots every season. These boots are beautiful. You definitely get what you pay for. I already have bought another Frye boot (the Phillip tall harness in black for a more casual look) and am tempted to get another pair already! So happy with this purchase.

I had been looking at these for at least two years... I should have purchased them a long time ago! They are so expensive, but so worth the money. It's hard to find things made so well these days; the quality shows with Frye. These are awesome.

Love the look and comfort of the boot. So stylish but also great for a casual look. I had to return for a half size smaller.

Perfect boot. Small calves, and the boot fits snug like it's supposed to. Leather comfortable and durable. Worth the cost.

The Bordeaux color of this Frye Melissa Button boot is gorgeous. I have at least 5 pairs of Frye boots and these are just as comfortable as the others. However, most of my Frye's are in a size 7 and I ended up switching these out for a 71/2. These are definitely keepers!

These are my favorite boots ever. They only took an hour or two to break in, and they are quite versatile.

The leather gives to fit your feet. The boots are extremely comfortable. I wore them for 15 hours the first day! I always have trouble with boot shafts being too wide for my calves and these fit beautifully.

I tried four pairs of Frye boots and the Melissa Buttons in Cognac were the winners. The color is very rich and warm, these do not look orange like they do in some of the pics. I ordered a half size down per the other reviews and the size is perfect. They were very stiff at first and have taken some time to break in, but now they are so comfortable and molded to my feet. These boots have a timeless style and I know I will love them for years to come. I have received several compliments already!

I love these boots! They are comfortable straight out of the box (I love the smell of that leather!) and look amazing. I am 5'5" and 117 lbs and have some trouble finding boots that don't swallow my legs up. These did not, though were still roomy enough to allow for leggings or jeans to be tucked in and still had a little room left over, so I'm sure that it would fit most leg types. (I also tried the Paige riding boot and the Melissa back button with the zipper and both fit too large in the calf for me.) They fit pretty true to size. I normally wear a 7.5 or 8, and the 7.5 fit perfectly after getting it on, which was a little difficult the first few times. I ordered the dark brown vintage color and it is gorgeous! It's a classic, beautiful deep brown that would go with most everything. As another reviewer mentioned, these boots are a little stiff. My pair will stay standing and stiff without any support in my closet. However, this does not bother me one bit, and I don't feel like it takes away from the look or the functionality. I receive compliments every time that I wear them. If you are on the fence, just go for it, you won't be sorry!

I just bought these in the Cognac color yesterday. I normally take a 7.5, but I got an 8 because I have a high arch and wide feet. I also got the extended calf because of my larger, I mean "shapely" calves. They are so comfortable it's almost weird...aren't new shoes supposed to hurt for a while? I was nervous about going a half size up, but I think I am going to pull the trigger and wear them outside today. I can't resist! They are simple but beautiful, and I can wear them over my skinny jeans! I also plan to wear them with skirts and dresses. In other words, with everything, for years!

Perfect boots, well worth the money. I try to buy shoes to last and these will stand the test of time both in quality, craftsmanship, and style. I'm a 6.5-7 depending on the style and brand but I ordered a 7 and they fit perfectly with socks. Love the cognac color!

I am LOVING these boots! I ordered the grey, which is more like a brownish-grey. They aren't really "true" cowboy boots. It's more like if a cowboy boot and a riding boot had a baby, it would be this boot.

Love this boot. Super comfortable to wear, even when walking all over town. I bought boots true to size -- the half-size down also fit, but I felt my normal size were more comfortable with a sock. Like others have said, the first couple times taking the boot on and off is a bit tough but the leather stretches to make it easy to wear. It does bunch slightly at the ankles for me, but I suspect that's because I have slightly wider athletic calves. Still, definitely will be buying Frye boots again in the future!

I have wanted to buy these boots for a long time but hesitated because of the price. I am so glad I did. Very comfortable. True to size. Look amazing. Thought and thought about it. If I spend money on boots each year for the next few year, I reach the cost of these eventually. Now, I know I am not going to need a pair of boots for many years; these are timeless and well made. Just buy them already!

I bought these to surprise my long distance girlfriend just because. Someone told me to buy them a size small, because they run big. They apparently fit perfectly, and I got major bonus points. These boots are epic.

Beautiful boot. They look almost black in the picture but are actually dark chocolate. The leather is excellent quality but soft making them scuff on the outside very easily. So if you're rough on your boots you may not like the boots in this color. The fit is true to size. I wear a 6 and these boots fit perfect. I was worried about the calf circumference because of the different comments but they fit perfect for skinny jeans or skirts. I'm 5'5 and 112lbs with average calves so hopefully that helps some of you. If you're on the fence about these boots don't be they're very comfortable with no break in time and they're beautiful excellent quality boots.

I have thought about Frye boots for several years and I was so excited when they arrived today. Unfortunately, it is too difficult for me to get my foot in and pull them up. They are well made so I will try again with a zipper!

I love these boots. I already have the Frye Shirley riding boots in brown and have enjoyed them for some time. I was looking for a pair of tall black riding boots and tried on MANY in a lesser price point. I decided not to be penny wise and pound foolish and splurge on quality. I don't have skinny calves but I'm not in the range of wide calf but Frye seems to fit perfect. I can even fit a skinny pant in too! Broke a bit of a sweat getting them on, but I think that will ease with time as the leather softens (can't wait)!

Beautiful boot! It was true to size. I have average sized calves and did not have trouble pulling it on.

It really doesn't get better than the Frye boot, amazing craftsmanship and beautiful leather. These are easy, and go with everything. I was most concerned with the shaft circumference, but it's just right. My calves measure 15, and so do the boots. I know over time they will stretch some, so it's a good fit. I love them!

Buy these boots. I have had mine for almost two years and they are perfect. I wear them with jeans, dresses, skirts and always feel like they add style and class to every outfit. After trying many sizes and colors, I selected the Vintage soft black in my normal size of 7 1/2. I lived in Washington DC and walked everywhere when I bought them. These were always my go-to for a day of sight seeing followed by dinner. I now live in Alaska and wear them year round. You won't be disappointed.
