The bag looks exactly like pics so no complaints. Tons of room for materials/hard copy to go along with tons of easy access pockets whatever else you are traveling with. I'd take an inside zipper pocket or two but that's the extent of it. Feels sturdy. Overall a great bag!

Great bag for daily use. Durable, lightweight and comfortable to use. I use it everyday to schlep the laptop between work and home, and have been very happy with it.

I had the original Command Messenger bag. I loved it. Best laptop bag ever. It had all the right pockets and zipper pouches in all the right places. When it wore out and was peed on by the dog I had enough and decided to get a new one due to the sales they were having.
I purchased a new one, larger, as I purchased a new laptop. The bag arrived and the color was great. Right away though, the bag felt very stiff. Upon examination, the interior was lacking of pockets in the right places, and the inside pockets felt very flimsy and cheap. The exterior side pockets, yet cool to have pockets there, I feel the lack of the front pockets with zips downgraded this version significantly. The interior pockets are not the best, and all the hidden compartments can be confusing as to where you stuff things.
I am strictly comparing this version to the previous version which I absolutely loved. The velcro doubled up for extra protection in case you grabbed the bag without clipping it shut. The rear compartment is still very much the same, soft and nice for the computer with the extra pocket inside. Unfortunately this one lacks the hidden compartment at the bottom for a rain cover or small umbrella.
In conclusion, Timbuk2 is my favorite company for bags hands down. I love the construction, colors, styles, and durability of each bag. I do highly recommend them but this bag just doesn't hit high on my list and I was really hoping it would. My wife talked me into keeping it and giving it time to adapt to the new design and I am still not happy with it although it gets the job done in housing all my gear I travel with for work.

Given as a graduation gift. I'm writing this review because I had the bag for so long that I felt some moral responsibility to my bag. it is still in the same condition as I got it; ballistic nylon is no joke. I used to bring my bag everywhere on campus and during short trips. Spacious cargo space and nifty pockets. The quality is great, and the various pockets keep my electronics separated from micro scratches from pens and keys I carry.
One situational problem I've noticed is the how much the bag will bulge out if stuffed with clothes.
Bottom line: the ol'school Command Messenger is a very good bag that will look to continue to be of service for a very long time.

I got the small and it fits my 10x13" laptop as well as my 8 1/2" x 11" Rite in the Rain 9250T-MX Organizer perfectly. There is not much room to spare but I don't require any. The bottle holder is a bit small but will fit my 20 oz Yeti bottle. Time will tell how it holds up but I really like it so far.

A friend of mine was traveling with me, and I noticed his Command Messenger Bag. After asking about it and the company that makes the product, I started doing my research. My wife knew that my current messenger bag was on the last legs due to me using it for over ten years. Therefore, she purchased the Large Command Messenger Bag for my birthday, and I was tremendously excited.
The Large Messenger Bag at first seemed big, but now that I have used it for three months, I am glad she got that size. In fact, my friend who recommended the bag wants to upgrade to the large now. I use it daily for work and while I am traveling. The pockets are great for organizing my bag (I have OCD) along with having the ability to store my Ipad and Laptop in the back portion safely. The messenger fits perfectly under the front seat on an airplane with room for your feet and can open the padded area (laptop and Ipad storage area) for TSA scans if needed. I can carry a change of clothes, necessary documents, office supplies, charger for electronics, and it still has room for more. The strap is comfortable for hours, and the top handle makes carrying a breeze. The only thing I had to get used to is that it does not stand up on its own (unless fully packed). The cross strap for keeping it secure on my back while riding a bike is a great addition that I would have never thought of. Thank you Timbuk2, and I appreciate the products you produce.

I use this as my carry on bag for plane travel, and once I get there it can become my messenger bag for bike rentals. It also is professional enough looking for when I show up on a job I don't have my old, dirty messenger bag with me. I like the padded laptop sleeve and the external water bottle pocket, so if it spills it's not in the bag with my laptop!

I bought this to replace a Fossil messenger bag. I own a timbuk2 backpack, roller luggage and hybrid backpack/messenger bag as well. Timbuk2 quality is hard to match, the command laptop messenger bag is no exception. I purchase 2 colors (Carbon/Molasses and Surplus) in size SMALL as i wanted something professional but not boring/stiff. I felt the Surplus color and texture just wasn't as polished as the Carbon & Molasses. At the same time i also purchased the Timbuk2 Closer Case in Small & Medium, however the medium was still smaller than the Command Small. I thought the slimmer size of the Closer Case might provide a clean look, however, it was still too small and the style of the Command bag, especially in C/M color is a very clean, sleek looking bag. Size small is still a larger messenger bag, but will not fit my 17" MSI laptop, should fit a 15" no problem. Surface Pro fits with plenty of room to spare, which is what i purchased this bag to hold.
Pro:
1. Aluminum Hooks, though takes a minute to learn how to rotate the hook as some other reviewers have mentioned, after a couple times it's no easier/harder than a standard push-button clip style.
2. Napoleon side pocket on flap, AWESOME for going through TSA at airport to throw your keys, phone etc in (I'm pre-check so i cannot speak about the TSA approved benefits of this bag).
3. Cam Buckle lock, super awesome and convenient. Stows easily under seat in front of you, even on smaller planes.
4. Plenty of internal pockets for organization.
5. Texture of Carbon color material is really awesome, and very unique, will def. make people look twice at it. Surplus color did not have this texture
Cons:
1. I'm left-handed and the bag goes over the left side of my body the water bottle pouch ends up being on the backside of the bag, this is just part of being a lefty in a right-hander's world.
2. the bottom of the bag is angled towards the front of the bag, so if you set it down it tends to fall forward, laying on bag face.

The strap on my last bag would not stay adjusted. It finally drove me crazy enough that when I saw this on sale I bought it on impulse based on Timbuk2's reputation.
Now that I've used it for a few weeks, I would buy it again at full price. There are a lot of things I like about this bag, but mostly it comes down to the fact that attention was given to details and almost every feature is useful to me. The things I like are:
1) The lined cell phone and laptop pockets.
2) The "silent" option of using only buckles, or skipping buckles and using only velcro to close.
3) The size is just about right as well.
4) The quick adjust strap feature is what got me to buy the bag in the first place.
5) Sturdy grab handle
6) overall quality of materials
Things I don't like so well:
1) I probably don't need quite so many internal pockets
2) The zippers on the seam pockets (I think) should zip closed in the down direction rather than up, but that's maybe just me
Nothing is a big enough complaint to deduct a star, I really like the bag overall.

I really love how well constructed the bag is. It feels like a premium product I'll be using forever. I like all of the hidden pockets. A little heavier than expected but that's ok. Color seemed a little off from the product photo but again, that ended up being ok. The main compartment doesn't open as wide as other bags I've used and I find that I have difficulty standing it up with the front facing out for easy access when I need a notebook or whatever (just falls face down immediately.) The construction is great but it makes the bag rigid in ways I wasn't expecting. Most of these are minor quibbles, I love the bag and use it everyday. When I decide to get a new one (which won't be because this wore out; this thing is a beast), I'll only be looking at Timbuk2.

I really like to colors on this bag but the strap closure coming undone makes it difficult to wear. The hook closure on the flap is also very challenging for quick access. The base is not flat and so the bag falls flat when placed on the floor.
The quality and pockets are what you would expect from Timbuk2.

I entered the dimensions of my 17" laptop (and even exaggerated the size a bit), and the Timbuk2 website said this largest size would be sufficient (it even said size medium would be good enough - ha!). However, it's not easy to get my computer in, and once it's in, it is really really difficult to get out. Instead of whizzing through airport security, I'm now the person holding up the line as I wrestle my laptop out of my bag. I feel like the bag needs another inch. I really wanted to love this bag (it's not easy finding a good-looking bag for a 17" laptop), but alas, I'm just lukewarm about it.

With a recent career change I needed a durable and high quality messenger bag to transport around different job sites. This bag has worked well for me to carry a laptop, iPad, prints & plans, along with snack, and other stuff to get through the day. My brother-in-law actually recommended their bags to me as he has been using them for the past few years. Living and working in the Seattle area, we have had dry season but I was really sold on the water proofing of the bag while out on a job site.

I've was looking at the Command bag for quite a while before I decided to upgrade my existing Chrome bag. I primarily updated it as the particular model bag I had before had minimal organizers/pockets, and I found this was causing issues with abrasion of electronics and sometimes messes when I was traveling and tossed a snack in.
The organization and padding is quite impressive. You do pay a cost for this by getting a heavier bag, but for someone carrying electronics it is worth the piece of mind. Having a more office-friendly style and a handle are big plusses for me.
I find that more often than not while at work I am taking out my laptop via the separate zippered and padded area, and don't even open the front flap. The ability to pick between velcro and metal snaps is somewhat wasted on me as a result - the type of usage where I'd want to use the velcro would probably just make me pack a different bag.
Unfortunately, the strap clips and buckle are plastic. Historically, the plastic pieces have been the Achilles heel of otherwise invincible bags for me. I actually would prefer the shoulder strap *not* be removable, as I rarely am in situations where I think a messenger bag strap would be inappropriate.
One benefit that you do get from a removable strap is that it is easy to switch between left and right-handed use. However, the napoleon pockets are different shapes on each side, so if you are purchasing based on this feature make sure the pocket in reach is the one you want. Hanging on my left side, I have access to a pocket just barely big enough for my cellphone.

Firstly, I purchased this at 40% off. I am writing this review as if I had paid full price.
Overall bag design is very good. Lots of good features. Very smart looking and the rip stop polyester is very tough. Tons of storage inside, just the right size for a personal bag when travelling. I can even insert the camera insert from my Billingham Hadley into the main compartment of this Command medium, which makes me very pleased as I can bring a camera on a trip without having to change bags (my Billingham would also not accommodate a 15" laptop.
I really like the padded dedicated compartment for the laptop and one on the front for my eye glasses. I can get into a meeting and whip out the laptop and glasses and get going fast without having to fiddle with opening the main compartment.
What I dislike:
1. It does not stand up when placed on the floor, which is how I store it when not in use. It will stand up on a carpet if placed leaning on something. It will never stand up on a smooth floor (such as wood, vinyl etc), which is my use case. So it just falls over. Design needs some thought. Yes the TSA compliant compartment is nice, but for me that 2% use case comes with a heavy usability penalty for the rest of the time. Very annoying.
2. While the strap is good quality, the method by which it attaches to the bag has two problems. Rather than attaching to the bag directly, loops and attachments are used.
A) the hardware gets in the way of me inserting a drink into the bag side compartment. Not totally, just slightly.
B) the hardware on the strap and the loops on the bag contact each other below the top of the bag. There is no easy way for the strap therefore to become untwisted by itself. When off the shoulder the hardware on the strap can turn 360 degrees so it can become easily twisted. When I pick up the bag at the end of the day I'm usually in a rush and the strap is usually twisted on my shoulder. Better for these to turn 180 only.
V good bag, not superb

I love many aspects of the bag but hate that the bottom is slanted from back to front so that the bag cannot stand upright. This is a serious and very correctable design flaw. Also, the "TSA-friendly" feature is antiquated and wasted space and weight. Change these things and you'd have a perfect bag.

I bought this for my son for college. He loves it. He is a comp sci major and the bag fits everything he needs and has a well protected computer compartment. The color is beautiful and the material is top quality. Definitely will be buying more timbuk2 bags.

well-made, nice details, but far too heavy and bulky (even the small size) than I needed for daily use. It would be a good travel bag. I ended up giving it to one of my sons who likes it fine.

Great bag. This replaced my original commute from 2006. Overall pockets are plentiful- just wish there were configurable (Velcro) pockets inside for water bottles or other items that don't fit the design. Stylish and very comfortable regardless of what you carry. I traveled internationally and this bag was perfect for easy access. Great upgrade for me from the 2006 bag is the ability to put on the handle of a roll bag. Only service issue was that UPS routed bag wrong and I had to wait a few extra days to get it- not Timbuk2's fault, Timbuk2 bags rock- well thought out and stylish.

With pre-check I use the zip out almost not at all, and removal is mandatory in EU, so that's my least used feature.
Moving the pocket to the back of the main storage area helped access when loaded, but I have too many things fall out of the front pockets when the bag tips over. That's too much risk so I don't use the small front pocket at all, after my wifi hotspot fell out of the pocket 3 times.
I forget to zip up the napoleon pocket in the flap, and lost a cell on the street as a result. The zipper does start up from the bottom a bit, but never stow more than one item there if you might leave that fly open accidentally.
Looks way better than old Command though!
