I finally got to use these in Chicago where I walk a lot. They were so uncomfortable I had to return to my hotel to change shoes. Unfortunately I waited too long to return them now I'm stuck. I can't wear them and can't return them. My other boots are great but these not so good.

After having back surgery I received a pair of these as a Christmas gift to be my daily office shoe. I love the cushioned sole, but like my Stinson's the painted foam get's ratty looking real quick. You just can't paint foam and expect it to stay that color. The foam needs to be colored or have some kind of substantial coating. The semi-ratty shoes served their purpose until I went on a light hike up in Steamboat this summer. I completed a 5 mile hike and by the end of the hike both shoes were literally mostly de-laminated from the sole. Complete failure. I was in awe. Never had a shoe fail so spectacularly. I simply threw them in the trash and switched to an old pair of Asics I had lying around for the rest of the trip. I love the basic concept of the Hoka's. I love how they soak it up, but shoes shouldn't de-laminate and you shouldn't be terrified of bumping a stair with your shoe because you know the paint will rub off instantly. Painted foam sucks.

I bought my first pair and the toe kick/soul started separating before I could get 50 miles of use. I returned them for a second pair from the retailer and the same thing happened with the second pair. Mean while my wife's are also separating. Also the two pair I owned were NOT waterproof at all. Obviously poor quality glue and construction. Worst thing Hoka didn't want to hear anything about it. I guess they would rather bury their heads in the sand and wait for all the returns to come in from the big retailers. Maybe then they will listen.

I needed a new pair of hiking shoes and decided to try these out based on the saleperson's recommendation - he was an avid runner, however, and not a hiker. I took these shoes out for a few short hikes and walks on flat and well maintained trails (~1hr excursions) to break them in and they performed fine. However, once I actually ventured into the mountains and hiked for any period of time longer than 2 hours my heels and ankles began to hurt badly - worse than I have ever experienced. I have no prior foot injuries and have been an avid hiker for years so I do not think it is an issue on my end. The shoes simply are not meant for long hikes on rocky terrain. I tried them twice (9 and 12 mile hikes respectively) and both times I returned in pain. I will be returning these shoes.

The great thing about Hoka is the cushion in the step, these do not measure up. I am very disappointed I have nerve damage in my spinal cord and cannot walk in regular shoes but have been able to walk in Hoka shoes. But not these.
