I am recovering from Achilles Tendon repair surgery and I needed a good pair of supportive shoes to transition into from my orthopedic boot, 2 months after my operation. I selected these shoes because of the heel to toe drop, cushioning, fit, and the fact that I had room to comfortably place a 10mm heel lift for my injured foot. The shoes have been fantastic, offering comfort and support as I "re-learn" to walk in a shoe. I am sure they will be great for light trail hiking and trail running as I continue my recovery.

This makes my life so easy now transitioning from the Clifton 2 into these for trail hiking allows me to keep the same great feel on my feet no matter the terrain now. These feel broken in from the first time I put them on my feet. So ultra light!! Don't flinch at the price tag... Worth every penny and can only imagine what next editions will hold for these already awesome outdoor boots.

I really tried not to like these shoes because of their moon boot looks and price tag. But they are the most comfortable hiking shoes I have ever worn. They may not be pretty, but they sure are comfortable right out of the box. Also, they are incredibly light for full support hikers. I do not want to take them off!

I'm 6'3", 225lbs and 45 years old. I wear a size 13 that is slightly wider than normal. It's also a flat foot. I've gone through the gambit on boots trying at least 10 different boots, all having issues that would lead to blisters and/or sore feet.
I'm only 2 hikes in to these boots, but I think they will change my hiking life. I did 2 miles on concrete to a staircase with 170 stairs. Went up and down them 18 times, had no foot pain or even stress after. I next did a 6 mile hike, about 1500 ft up and down, on some hard packed dirt, very steep at times. Once again, they felt great.
The boots were light and extremely grippy. I never slipped once, even on loose dirt on a steep slope. They were much more stable than i expected and did not have a hint of an ankle roll. Possible problems in the toe box, but if i tighten them up on the downhill, i should be fine. I have not tested these with a 40lb pack yet, but that will come soon enough. I would not recommend these boots if you needed to climb in them. The edge is very soft and won't stick in a crag.
I'll have a stronger update after I've hiked Mt Wilson, Baldy, and Whitney. 3 weeks out.

used exclusively for hiking.. I have Plantar Fasciitis pretty bad... made a 12 mile hike in the Tetons possible...
they may look a little clunky ... but did not perform that way.. light and supportive, no break-in required, gotta figure out another place to wear them ...

I climbed Mt Timpanogas last weekend and just run the Speed goat vertical mile. The support in the rocks is amazing. The grip in the steep loose ground is incredible. They are everthing I had hoped for and more Hoka has done it again makening the best even better.

Using these hi-tops to walk the Great Glen trail in Scotland. Rainy wet and muddy is the name . WP only goes to mid ankle, as the tongue is seperate and no gussets go up the shin. step too deep and your foot will probably get wet. That said, wading in deep water is not what the shoe is for. THe Hoka soles are awesome, and the concussion absorption is a great benefit. If there were better sole relief for a gaiter strap, that would be an improvement, but on the whole, I think these are great at doing the job I asked of them. Comfort is off of the charts.

Like many I work long hours on my feet on concrete. Although this shoe is not at waterproof as I would like. It is still the only boot that keeps my feet comfortable. Pleeeese bring back the all black..
I would give this boot a 5-star rating if they could figure out the waterproofing.

Tried a men's size because Hoka doesn't seem to make a women's waterproof hiking boot, and it was a mistake. Surprisingly narrow (and I expected too wide), and not as comfy as I'd hoped. Still looking.

I bought these specifically for a planned multi-day hike in West Cork. I had never heard of Hoka One One but bought them based on their inclusion high on several “best hikers” lists. They are the most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn, in 60 years of hiking, without sacrificing support. The weak point of the Tor Ultra was the Vibram soles, which lost some grip sooner than one should have to expect for a fairly pricey dedicated hiker, and a small section of one sole partially separated on the trail but that was easily fixed with Gorilla glue. I had no problem with waterproofing despite a lot of mud and fresh cow poop on our trail (primarily Sheepshead Way, out of Bantry). Still, at 73, avoiding foot discomfort is especially important to me and despite the problems with the soles I plan to buy another pair of this boot for a planned return trip to West Cork (the Beara Peninsula, this time) early next year.

This hiking boot is fairly lightweight for a boot. They are very comfortable. It feels stable when I put my foot down. Kind of like walking on a cloud, like most of HOKA shoes. The colors are awful. They look surprisingly good on. I can recommend this boot. If you can get past the colors.

I have bought three pair of Hokas in the last 3 months. one pair was ordered my usual size of 11.5 and were too small but had worn so a total waste of money. the next pair i ordered a 12 and they fit well. so i ordered the boots in a 12 and after trying on i had to return for a smaller size.
take away, i like the product but sizing is more difficult than it should be.

I need a new pair of boots for hiking . I wanted to love these boots because my hiking buddy loves his.
The boots were to stiff and had no cushioning. I was very disappointed because all my other Hokas have superior cushioning.

Bought this on the recommendation of one of my employees who uses their running shoes. Really good fit out of the box. I've got bunions, gout, and tendonitis and these boots feel great!

This is a great light weight hiker that is perfect for most backpacking & hiking applications I do in Alaska. I would not use them if hiking miles of sharp glacial moraine rock, but they will be great for everything shy of that.

I just got off of a 44 mile section of the JMT going over two 11,900ft passes. My initial impressions of these boots are very positive. I have always had problems with foot pain on hard descents with the pack. These boots were a huge help. I was able to descend the passes with little pain and even continue wearing the boots in camp where in the past I would be dying to get out of them. Grip was fantastic. On this trip there were a number of water crossings with rocks and logs. At some crossings the rocks had 2-3 inches of flowing water over the top. I felt the grip on these wet surfaces excellent. The grip is made of two types of rubber. I do believe these will wear out quicker than other boots, but I am going to keep them for trail use only and believe I can get a few seasons of use out of them. Well worth the price. During the crossings I had water flowing over the top of the boots and never had any issues with the water getting in under the laces like other reviews. They were never submerged past ankles for more than a step.
I did end up with a blister on the side of each big toe after the big descents. I think the toe box is a little too roomy for me. I think it is not just my feet because this is the first set of boots that have given me blisters in a number of seasons. A little mole skin and I was good to keep hiking.
These are great boots and well worth every penny. Super comfortable and a huge help with my foot pain.

I love this shoe but it is a little wide. It is a well built shoe and light. Difficult combination to find.

I love the way they are comfortable right from the start. There isn't any break in time. The only problem is I wear out a pair about every 6 months because I have problems with my feet.

These boots are just as amazingly comfortable and light as the shoes. The toe box/forefoot of these boots are much bigger than the narrow fitting shoes (great news!). I have worn them on a 20+KM hike/climb and I also wore them for my 3 hour climb up to base camp on Mt. Baker with a 40lb pack. They performed beautifully in all areas except for wet weather. They are definitely not water proof. Not as rugged as a traditional (and uncomfortable) hiker but I never once think about my feet when I'm wearing these. I will take the trade off for comfort any day of the week.
