Before selecting a running shoe one should first become familiar with three terms related to Performance Shoe Support Type: Neutral, Overpronation/Stability, and Underpronation/Supinatior. The Zappos website includes a filter to the left of the products with these options. Assuming the selection is narrowed down to running shoes the next step is defining your personal gait. Are you an underpronator needing supination correction, someone with a neutral gait needing no correction, or an overpronator needing stability correction? There are many articles on the Internet that can help you analyze the bottom of your worn shoes to help decide which category is correct for the individual. Once the gait is determined there are degrees to how much correction one requires. The Brooks Beast is a perfect example of a shoe designed for moderate to severe overpronation. Do not take this lightly. It is in fact one of the most heavily reinforced running shoes on the planet. Wearing such a shoe when one does not need an extreme level of correction can cause more harm than good; however, if you are flat footed or need severe overpronation correction this is one of the most comfortable stability shoes for extreme overpronators. The Asics Gel-Kayano 22 corrects slight to moderate overpronation. It is also much more comfortable than any other shoe I have tried including the Brooks Glycerin a neutral shoe that is marketed as heavily cushioned. The Asics are better cushioned in both the inserts and soles. If you need a slight amount of overpronation correction the Asics Gel-Kayano is a very comfortable option. For someone requiring a neutral shoe or a shoe for underpronation "supination" the Asics Gel-Nimbus would be a better selection. Finally, there is one more type of shoe some may consider. I have once heard the New Balance 1540 referred to as walking on rails . Assuming you are recovering from an ankle injury you might be someone needing additional support. The 1540 corrects for both overpronation and underpronation meaning it is an extreme stability shoe braced on both sides. This does not at all mean it is a go to shoe for anyone. In fact most people would find such a shoe uncomfortable because the design does not focus on comfort cushioning . Instead this shoe acts like a brace that could help during and after recovery from some ankle injuries. I work in an Amazon warehouse making me someone who has thoroughly analyzed potential option to help my feet while working. This is what we refer to as scanners shoes. Scanners do a lot of walking while carrying packages inside the warehouse. This requires a comfortable shoe that matches a person's gait correctly.

ompared to previous Gel Kayano shoes I have worn, these are terrible. They are much narrower and fit much shorter. The entire shoe also seems to have been cheapened. They are going back and I will look for a different brand. Too bad, since the old ones were great. Asics has lost a customer by their short sighted redesign.

I have worn the previous versions of this shoe for years. The 22 is not the same as previous versions and its not even close. I usually get the 2E width but it actually feels tighter than a D width. It is a very narrow shoe. Not sure that the 4EE would work for me even if I were to exchange it. Also, very important for those that have relied and depended on the support and comfort of the Kayano, the springy gel cushioning of the previous versions is now absent. This feels more like a cheaper entry level shoe instead of a top of the line running shoe.

I knew the correct size in this shoe, but it runs a full size smaller (I usually wear 9 1/2, but I wear a 10 1/2 in this shoe).

Just bought the shoe on September 25th and so far really like it. I'm 6'4, 240 Lbs and it has good support and cushioning for my size, knees, ankles, legs all felt good after initial test run. One thing is the toe box feels tight when you put it in and you'll be wondering if the shoe is wrong size. I noticed that the tightness when running actually felt good as it held my foot in place so now I like it. If there is anything that turns you off, I think it will be that. I tried the Nimbus 17 and that was too soft and cushion-y for my weight.

Not sure what others are talking about (narrow / small). I run 20 to 25 miles a week and I've used several versions of the GEL-Kayano and these are the best by far. Perfect fit, very comfortable...so much so, I'm ordering a second pair.

Over the past 7 years, I've purchased the GEL-Kayano many times. Unfortunately, the fit of the Kayano 22 seems to be significantly different from previous shoes in the series. The toe box is snug and moderately uncomfortable. Previously the shoe had fit me well in 2E width. Hopefully the shoe will become more comfortable as it breaks in. That being said, the GEL-Kayano 22 in charcoal/silver/lime is by far the best looking shoe that I've purchased in the series. The color scheme is stylish and the shoe looks even better in person. I'm just not sure if I'll be wearing the shoes very much because of how the feel.

This is what I bought after the ASICS Gel-Kahana® 7 was discontinued and the 8 just didn't look good to me & fit badly. I wore the 7 for a year. This shoe is great - and thankfully other people reviewed it and pointed out it was too narrow and small. So, I went up half a size from 13 to 13.5 and went from a D to an EE. I've never worn this size before, but this fits very well now. I probably would've had to return it if I got my normal size. It is extremely comfortable and gives good support all around. It looks better in person than in the pic too, I think. I also tried the ASICS Gel-Exalt™ 3 but I didn't think those looked as good or felt as good...though those were in a 13 and perhaps ran a bit small too. Even at 13.5 and in EE, it's still a tiny bit narrow - but only like 2 cm. I've found that Saucony shoes tend to be wider. This shoe is also very breathable and my feet didn't get that hot or uncomfortable after 2 hours in the gym. It was pretty much like my old asics.

Great shoe! I put 12 to 13 miles a day on my feet and these shoes are very comfortable and breathable in the heat. This is my second pair and they last 4 to 5 months with that kind of mileage. Break in is very minimal. Also a very light shoe as well.

So far so good. I was nervous because I had the previous version of these shoes and many reviews from people who had the first versions were bad. I think they are fine, I like the look of them and they are comfortable. I'll update if anything changes.

Kayanos are still the best for us heavier runners who need solid foot support and who also need more room in the toebox.

Great workout shoes. I'm a repeat buyer. Wear them for gym workouts, then after about four months I downgrade current pair to "walking shoes" and purchase a fresh pair for the gym.

I bought my husband a pair of these for Christmas this year and he loved them. Wore them for everything from basketball to casual wear. When I saw that they were discounted he of course wanted another pair! Great support and comfort, and some cool colors.

I have worn Asics Gel Kayano's for many, many years. Twice during those years I have tried another brand (fitted at a reputable shoe store) only to return those shoes and keep on ordering/wearing Kayano's. For me they most asuredly feel so much better than any other running shoe. Arch support, heel & sole gel plus the width works well for me! Zappos had my shoes on my front porch within 24 hours after order placement! Great service!

I am a big fan of Asics, I have been running in them for almost ten years. I have always been a size 11.5, however with the Kayano 22's and the Nimbus 18's I had to go up to a size 12. Aside from the size difference these are the same quality Kayano's I love. 5 Stars. Props to Zappos for having a great color selection.

I am so pleased with the way these fit. Often, Wide width shoes can be a bit too roomy, but these have ample room while still fitting like a proverbial glove. Great cushioning. The subtle hints of florescent green/yellow are attractive without being garish. Great buy.
