I purchased this one for my son who is going up to the 7th grade. His school started giving all the students CromeBook to carry and this backpack is perfect for that and all the daily school needs for a teenager. The backpack is light and it doesn't give much pressure on my son's shoulders or his neck, which was my most concern for this growing teenager. Each pocket is very useful and the zippers are working smooth. The fabric is strong enough to endure through out his school years. We live in a place with very cold winter and lots of snow, and I believe this backpack will keep all the important stuff inside secure. I'm happy with all these functions, but what my son was most happy about was the whistle attached to the strap. This backpack is for his school, so he may not need a whistle, but it certainly is an attractive feature for this teenage boy. Even if you are not a hiker, this book is perfect for daily use!

Nice bag, sturdy, well constructed. Designed for women, it's a little more compact. May be a little small if carrying a lot of books and a computer. Bought as a gift so don't know for certain. Overall, I recommend this bag if looking for something descend for a person with a smaller frame.

I bought this for my boyfriend for college and he loves it. He loves the padding for the bag and said it is comfy to wear.

This was a gift from My husband, but I pick it up cuz I need it some specific, like the special space for the computer, really glad I got it, is a really great Backpack, lots of space, soft, easy to load, colors are just great, good Mix!

Use the backpack for casual commuting and to carry work supplies. It is very comfortable and easy to access.

Everything is high quality on this bag; they really didn't miss a detail. I love how the bag compresses to be pretty small when there's not much in it, but it can actually hold a couple days of clothes comfortably when you fill it up. I docked it one star because the bottom is designed to curve upwards, so you can't really stand it up on the ground. I can see this being pretty annoying at airports where I'll probably be taking it on and off regularly.

Loved the color combination. I got the ZINC GREY / SURF GREEN for law school but the bag was too long/bulky. I'm 5'3 and the bag swallowed me. Will be returning for the Borealis.

Purchased the Surge Backpack and then ordered Shoes and a Coat. The shoes feel like slippers and the coat fit perfectly. I was concerned the sleeves would not be long enough for my 36" arms, but it was as if it was tailored. Everything produced by Northface is outstanding! I will definitely make Northface my first stop if I need anything they offer. Northface is the best of the best!!!

I use this backpack for school. It has held up great and looks great as well.

This backpack is not designed to be utilized for school. The way that the large pockets are designed, causes papers to fold and bend. I intended to utilize this backpack for school and work and it cannot fully fulfill this requirement with this flaw in design. The backpack is very comfortable, however, the fact that it does not serve the necessary service for a student keep me from recommending it.

Traveling abroad. This works as my carry on on plane including a change of clothes. It is comfortable and easy to access passport, etc. love it!!!

This pack is great for loading laptops/books into. I did not have the problem that some folks have described with the straps cutting into my neck. Plenty of pockets and even a little reflective strip or two on the back.

I bought this backpack as part of a graduation present for my niece who graduated from high school. I was extremely pleased by the quality of the backpack. I will definitely buy another one.

I use the bag for travelling and work. As I am a filmmaker the bag allows me to carry my cameras, battery packs, I pad , batteries,speakers,cables apart from the laptop and a lot more equipment in the provided spacious compartments. Just what I needed and love the color .

Got it to travel this summer. So far I love it. I love the padded pockets for my laptop and tablet. Lots of pockets in convenient places.

We have used this on hikes and are taking it on a high adventure vacation.

The first backpack I ever had was a North Face Vault. It was a great, spacey pack and lasted over 5 years with barely any tearing. My biggest complaints about the Vault were its lack of pockets and padding. I recently got a North Face Surge and absolutely love it. It has so many pockets and tons of padding, which were lacking in the Vault. It's perfect for college and every day commuting to work. I am planning on taking it with me on a trip to Europe and have no doubt that it will be spacious and comfortable enough to make my trip a good one.

The quality is great. I use it for school. I think a flatter base would work better for classroom use. This one topples over when set on floor. I would love this as a day hike bag or just a casual day trip when I need my laptop. The laptop compartment is rigid and provides good protection for a laptop. It is the bulk of the weight. There are many compartments (pro for day hike, con for classroom use).

The first thing that caught be attention was the handle on the front of the bag. This is my favorite feature because you have many ways to carry the bag and throw it in your car, if you are always on the go. The laptop sleeve fits my very large laptop, and the lay flat feature will come in handy when flying. It has plenty of room and fits all of my on the go office items that I take with me to my meeting.

Great bag. I searched for a long time and needed a bag that I could transition into from a briefcase that I hated carrying. This bag fits my laptop and notebook in the back padded pocket, pens and misc stuff in the front and I can fit gym clothes and a toiletrie bag in the center it's perfect.
