I was so disappointed in this shoe and will be returning it. This has been my go-to shoe for years and I have been very happy with them. However, this shoe does not fit at all. The shoe is way too high on the ankle. The sides hit my ankle bone and the back is so high - it hits above the bend on my achilles tendon. I can't walk in them. Never has this been the case in the previous models. I don't understand why Northface made these changes. They did make the toe box bigger then their previous models so that is the one positive thing about this shoe. But otherwise a huge disappointment.

Tried these to replace my Merrill waterproof gym/hiking shoes that turned out to be not so waterproof after walking in the rain. These are stylish and quite comfortable out of the box - they feel light and cushiony with good support. Can’t speak about its waterproof protection just yet, but in the meantime, I’m really happy with this purchase.

These sit a little too high on the ankle bone. The toe box and heel are too roomy and there is zero cushion.

Super comfortable shoes. The first time I used them I went on a 6 mile walk and had no problems at all - no blisters, no chafing. Have been using them daily ever since and remain very happy with how comfortable they feel.

Fantastic shoe! Bought these for a trip to Alaska with lots of hiking and rafting. I wore them right out of the box with no time to break them in and didn't have a single blister. They were super comfortable with lots of support and they kept my feet dry while walking and boat in wet conditions. And, they looked very stylish with leggings or jeans. I was hesitant about the light color at first getting dirty too fast but they still look brand new after 12 days of wear. I'm looking forward to wearing them for my regular dog walks when I get home. Highly recommend you try these.

My first pair of these shoes lasted years...10, 15? I lost count. When it was time to replace them I tried a few different brands but then there really was no comparison. These shoes have been my go to for exploring and protecting my feet in all conditions. In the inland Pacific Northwest Gore Tex is a must. Happy to upgrade...it was time.

Shoe is comfortable, and a good fit. Keeps my feet dry in wet weather. My only complaint is that the laces come loose a bit after walking for a while, but not a big deal.

I have yet to do a true test of this shoe, as I am planning to take it on a trip to Iceland. However, everything felt perfect wearing it around my house. It also is not too heavy, and feels like a very solid sneaker. Waterproof was also a factor.

Purchased these waterproof shoes for European travel since I knew I would be doing a lot of walking. I normally were a size 6 (medium width)dress shoe, but I purchased these in 6.5 size because I knew I would be wearing thick socks. Perfect fit. Although I only had a few days to break them in before vacation, I found these shoes extremely comfortable, provided superior support, and are indeed waterproof. Highly recommend. I would purchase them again.

I tried SO MANY shoes looking for the perfect hiking shoe, and this is the one for me! I normally wear a 9.5/10, but I bought at 10.5 so I'd have more room for socks/insoles.
This shoe is the perfect middle ground between a softer sneaker and a sturdy hiking boot. It's softer and more comfortable than most hiking shoes I tried, yet it still feels tough enough for the trail.
This is also the only shoe I found that had enough room in the toe box for me.
I do think that the insole it comes with is pretty weak, so you might want to invest in something more cushy. But all in all, a great shoe. Love it.

I bought a very similar pair to these 10 years ago, and they've seen hard service, all over the world. Sturdy, good grip, not too heavy or hot and reasonably comfortable. Nice to see they haven't changed much in that time. They're not my 'best' hiking shoes - but they're the ones I can wear on my bicycle, and then go for a hike in the woods without compromising too much in either department. Better than sneakers, but not for hard core mountain hiking. For my feet, they could be wider and have better arch support, but I fix that with a larger size and inserts. I usually take a 7.5 or 8 in extra wide, but an 8.5 works, more or less.

This shoe was uncomfortable for a few reasons. First, it was stiff and heavy. Second, the support seemed to be in the wrong places for me, and finally, it was a bit too wide for my narrow foot, even with padded hiking socks on. It is, however, a nice-looking shoe.

These shoes were to replace a beloved decade-old pair of the same style of North Face Goretex sneakers, and they are a huge disappointment. I ordered a half size down, and they're still too large. However, I'm reluctant to return them for a smaller size, as the design of the sneaker is now such that the part behind the Achilles tendon comes up very high and uncomfortably rubs - if I go down another half size, I worry that will create an even more miserable pressure point. Also, the toe box is HUGE (and I have long toes, so I typically have the opposite problem). Not only do my feet slide around a lot inside as a result, but it makes the aesthetic appearance of the shoe very unattractive, more like work boots or something. And finally, the "dark grey/fortuna blue" color looks far more attractive online than in person. While the photos look like a paler grey with a minty blue, the colors are actually a very masculine, very dark grey and a bright blue.

Love them! Leaving this review as I just got home from a hiking trip in the Canadian Rockies with these babies. Up until this week I'd only worn them for day hikes so was a bit nervous to wear them 5 days in a row but they held up wonderfully with no blisters, rubbing, etc. Looking forward to wearing them on many more trips! I have mild planter fasciitis and I did feel a bit of pain in my foot on the fifth day but I blame this on me not properly stretching each night and not on the shoes. Arch support was great in my opinion. See attached for a cute pic of them after I climbed halfway up a waterfall :)

A great friend of mine once told me not to be cheap on your feet. Every since I had received some nasty blisters on my heals I have taken this advice seriously. I had a wonderful chance to try these hiking shoes out for the first time yesterday after purchasing them almost two weeks ago. I hiked Mount Major in Alton, New Hampshire, the terrain was quite wet/muddy in some areas due to the immense amount of rain that New Hampshire has seen in the past two weeks, but my feet remained dry even when I walked right through some large puddles. These shoes are extremely comfortable, last season when I was hiking I was wearing sneakers and my feet always felt sore afterwards, that did not happen to me yesterday! My favorite attribute of this shoes are the no slip grip on the bottom, when I was walking on an incline on rock I did not feel as though I was going to slip or vice versa when going down the mountain. The quality of these are definitely worth the price!

Lifesaver! (Or maybe vacation-saver.) I had toe surgery a month before a camping trip. I had an older pair of Hedgehogs for years. After surgery I decided to buy a larger size to allow for swelling and the bandage (they run small). They protected my feet, stayed dry and secure even in heavy rain. They look nice and were comfortable even though I didn't have time to break them in. Truly hope they keep making the Hedgehogs!

I find this shoe to be very comfortable and supportive. The Gore-Tex liner is indeed 100% waterproof; but it cuts down a little on the breathability of the shoe, so I would wear these in colder climates, where the warmth is appreciated. The soles are very grippy and secure.

I was trying to replace the North Face Hedgehogs I had for years that were my favorite hikers when I ordered this Hedgehog Fastpack. I decided to return them because of tight fit and lack of comfort. I wear a size 8 in North Face shoes, both in my old Hedgehogs and my Ultra Fastpacks that I bought a few years ago. This shoe was somewhat smaller all around so I couldn't wear thick socks like the other two (in cooler weather), but also slipped in the heel a bit somehow. The sole felt harder too. I had also ordered the North Face Litewave Explore Waterproof hikers and definitely keeping them because of a perfect fit, more cushiony sole, decent support, and in my opinion better looking. Got them in black and budding green and absolutely love them! I do add orthotics for my high arches, but they work well on top of the non-removable insole. I wish North Face would bring back the old Hedgehogs too though, would love to have both for my hiking needs!

I purchased a pair of these shoes a few years ago and they fit great. They were so comfortable and supportive. I loved the fact that they have removable insoles so that I can wear my orthodics with them. They have become pretty worn out so I ordered a new pair. Same exact size and style as previously. Unfortunately although the shoes look the same when I ordered them recently the fit was totally different. They felt at least a half a size too big. I double checked to make sure that I ordered the exact same size as previously, however the shoes are cut much bigger. I am hoping that if I order half a size down I will achieve the same fit as before. If not I will be looking for a new hiking shoe.

I bought these a year ago for a trip to Europe and have only warn them during that trip and again during a trip to Maine a month ago. Haven't worn them too much due to the discomfort.
First, these are heavy/hardy shoes. I bought them 1/2 size bigger than my usual size but they still feel tight/stiff.
As someone wrote in earlier reviews, the toe box is a little tight and there's no "give" so my feet felt tired and constrained after a couple of hours of walking. I started losing feeling on my toes.
Also mentioned earlier, the side and back is too high and scrapes against my ankles and the back of my feet--causing blisters. I thought it would get better after breaking them in but that was not the case. The material around the ankle is a bit abrasive so that adds to the discomfort and blistering. I always needed to wear thicker socks which adds to the tightness and causes the circulatory issues in the toes.
I really wish I could return these since they were not cheap but I'm stuck with them.
