I like the technical hiking sneaker design, I thought they felt very roomy in the toe box and lightweight, but a little big around the heels, even after I laced them differently to try to keep my heels from sliding. The ankle cutaway came up a little high on my ankle bone, which was mildly uncomfortable, and they did not feel like they had any arch support or cushion.

I really wanted to keep these hiking boots as they are comfortable on all fronts- they are soft and true to size and my feet don't feel cramped, but I had to return them because oddly enough, the sides of the tongue overlap and cause a hard bump on the top of the foot. So hard that it actually really hurt whenever I walked in them! I thought if I adjust the tongue and wore them in a bit it would change but I think it's just the way the shoe is designed. I'm sure my case is rare, but just something to keep in mind. Bummer

These Hedgehogs’s are a perfect fit for my feet. Plenty of room without being too large, great arch support, sturdy and comfortable. Do keep in mind each pair of shoes fit fifferently on different feet, so some may not find them as comfortable as do I. They wash up beautifully with removable insoles, I love the colour…what’s not to love? I hope Northface doesn’t cheapen the materials or compromise on quality as most companies do when they have an excellent product. These walking shoes are in great shape after 2 years wear. I highly recommend them. 5 out of 5 ??stars for this product.

These walking shoes fit me beautifully. When I first tried them on they immediately felt like they were made for my foot. When you find a fit like this, they are keepers. There was virtually no break in time necessary. I love the arch support, the construction, breathability, colour and they fit true to size. They are washable but I’ve only had to wash the soles since they were muddy. The upper shoe hasn’t gotten dirty so I haven’t had to wash them yet. I wear them for long walks, doing errands, while shopping and with casual attire. Before I settled on this pair I tried on several different brands and these were the most comfortable shoes. 2 years later and I’m still very happy with this purchase. Since I’ve gotten older my feet have become a bit wider and I’ve gone up a half size in length. This pair of walking/hiking shoes are a perfect fit for me. I would definitely recommend them and would purchase them again. Too bad I didn’t send for a second pair because this style and brand will likely no longer be available. If I were going to purchase these shoes again, I would order a 2nd pair and keep one so that I have an extra pair when these need to be replaced. My rating for this style in North Face is 5 out of 5 ??’s. Enough said.

My favorite shoe. I'm 73 and I need arch support (non-pronating) and motion control. I added a Vionic Oh Active Orthotic (Triplanar Motion Control) under The North Face Hedgehog Fastpack GTX's thinnish foam pad. I usually wear size 9.5, and with the insert, I wear size 10. This combination creates the most ease when I take walks on sidewalks. I spend almost no energy adjusting my feet - they take me where I'm going with good mechanics and comfy feet! Though these sturdy shoes are heavier than my Ryka athletic shoes and Nursemate motion control shoes (both also very good), they feel lighter. They are waterproof, but don't make my feet sweat. I bought these over two years ago and they are lasting very well. The laces work well and the lace holes are lasting well.
I'd also recommend:

I loved the look of these shoes but they were just a bit small. I usually wear a 10.5 and that is what I ordered here but could have used an 11. I kept the other pair of north face that I ordered.

I needed waterproof shoes for a trip to Europe. I ordered 3 pairs to see which I liked and fit the best. The Northface Hedgehog was a little large. I ordered a 6, which is what I normally wear, but am sure I could have went down at least a 1/2 size. All 3 shoes that I ordered had insoles that were removable, and as I had my own insoles, i put them in. With my insoles in the shoe, they were very comfortable and could have been worn right out of the box, They were just a little too large. I ordered the lighter color in them also, and didn't feel that they would go with everything. So I am returning for that reason. The other two pair were ASICS GT-2000 8 GTX, which ran small and I would have needed to up a size and the other pair was Columbia Wayfinder Outdry, which is the one I kept.

Wonderful shoe, fits perfect and feels great. I had this shoe before but they are wearing out and saw them at Zappos at a great price so I bought them. Shipping was quick and the shoes are perfect.

I wanted to replace a 5-year-old pair of hiking boots which I never wore because they were uncomfortable and heavy. I'm very pleased with these shoes, which are well suited to day hikes on moderate terrain. They required very little breaking in (just a few dog walks LOL). The fit is perfect and they are just as comfortable as my favorite pair of sneakers.

About a decade ago, I needed durable shoe that could withstand semi-rough terrain and cold, icy, wet weather on occasion. Saw these online, tried them on in-store, and purchased. They were extremely comfortable and kept my feet warm and dry. They are actually still holding up today. There is just minor tread wear on the bottom sole and slightly less support in the inner arch supports. There is also minor wear & tear around first two shoestring eyelets (nearest my ankles). All this is expected after having the shoes for nearly a decade. Since they lasted so long, I decided to purchase another pair and hoped the quality was still the same. I was not disappointed with the comfort part. I'll find out next winter if they still keep my feet warm and dry.

Roomy in the toe area. True to length and having GTX was a definite reason for me to buy these. Will switch out to bungee laces for easy on and off.

I purchased these waterproof hiking/tennis shoes specifically for European travel. My dress shoe size is a 6, but I purchased these a half-size larger because I will be wearing thick/wool socks (otherwise a regular size 6 would have been okay with thin socks). The 6.5 size fit perfectly. I've worn the shoes all weekend and they were extremely comfortable. I've not been disappointed yet by a North Face product. Wish they would reproduce the women's waterproof leather/suede bootie they had several years ago. Mine are almost worn out and they're the perfect winter bootie for me.

Perfect fit out of the box and to the park trails! Arch support is standard for hiking hybrids so no complaints. I always add my own gel inserts anyway. Plenty of room for thicker hiking socks or two pairs of regular socks. Lots of toe room. The look is actually sleeker than what the picture shows. Love the grippy sole pattern and the thickness should deter any rock from hurting my footsies. I use hiking/walking hybrids to hit the trails and for light hikes off trail. Perfect.

I now have owned three pairs of these shoes. I come back to them because they are the most comfortable shoes I have worn for day hikes with the dogs, in all conditions: sand, dirt, mud, rain and puddles, and light snow, so I would say I've tried them against any and almost all weather conditions at almost daily wear for 3/4 of the year. The shoes need zero break in time for my foot and the wider box fits me perfectly. I have never felt uncomfortable in them. The GORE is 100% for the first year, meaning that you can walk through puddles and your feet are completely dry. Around the 2nd year, the seaming near the sole of the shoe shows some wear and won't keep your feet totally dry if you're encountering puddles. I can say that north face has improved their models by using a coated material on the sides of the shoe near the sole to prevent water from going in in the first place which works, but higher up I still got a wore down seam that can let in water--just less and less often. I haven't yet had a pair of shoes whose seams don't rip after the first year mark because of extended use, so I consider the full GORE protection early on to be a plus, and can get at least an extra year or two out of them after this point, so it's a good purchase for me. North Face, I will keep buying, but please use better colour schemes like previous years (this year I purchased the ultra fastpack gtx iii model for looks and expected good quality and design like the hedgehog (we'll see because there is no coated material on the sides like the hedgehog).

I have large feet that are on the wide side. I can usually do a B width unless the show is narrow at all. This shoe fit great. I have room for a thicker sock, support is moderate but hits my arch at a good spot that it feels good when I walk in it. I also like the pop of turquoise to.make them look feminine. I have not worn them in rain/snow yet but went with North Face because I have had great protection with previous pairs.

I tried a number of waterproof shoes to wear this winter and found most of them uncomfortable, a poor fit or too stiff. These were comfortable right out of the box and feel more like sneakers than boots. I listened to the reviews and ordered a 1/2 size larger and they fit perfectly. Each time I wear them, they get more flexible, which I like. I wear them to walk my dogs on the MA beaches in the winter so far so good. i'll see how they do when we get snow and ice, but anticipate no problems.

I waited to submit this review until I walked the Purbeck Plod in England. (Check it out.) This shoe is awesome! The walk was a gorgeous and challenging 25 miles, with a combined ascent of 4,000 feet. The path was well-maintained, but for the sometimes rocky, uneven terrain, I felt very stable. It’s the perfect combination of support and flexibility. I tried on multiple brands, and was not expecting this to be my choice, and I’m so happy to say it was just perfect. I wish I could wear these shoes every day, but my home climate is way too hot. I may buy a backup pair for future walks.

These were my very first pairs of hiking shoes and I couldn't be more impressed! They're extremely comfy, light, and the grip is amazing. These are perfect for Kansas but I used these mostly on vacation in Colorado, hiking every day for almost a week. From rocks to rivers, these shoes never let me down. The waterproof feature came in handy more than I expected. The grip on these is also amazing. I could walk down huge rocks and not worry about slipping. Not to mention these are really cute! I think these will last a very long time and I'm really happy I bought these!

I purchased these to replace North Face Litewaves that I have had for several years (and really liked!). I was not pleased with these shoes and returned them for two reasons. First, they seemed to be far less supportive than my Litewaves; and, second, the logo patch on the tongue of the shoe made pulling the laces to tie quite difficult, as the laces would catch on this patch. It took entirely too long to simply tie these shoes -- I can lace up my hiking boots far faster!

Very nice shoes just didn't fit me but would be really nice on someone with different feet. The heel slipped dramatically so it had to be returned.
