I love these boots! They run true to size and are so comfortable right out of the box with zero breaking in. They are also stylish along with being functional. I love the height and the way they perfectly hug my calves. I am tall and normally wear a size ten. Over the past week or so I have purchased and returned one pair of Borns (too big and wide) and two pair of Fryes (one pair too big and one pair too small) before hitting the jackpot with these Merrells. Thank you for your patience and astounding customer service, Zappos! I love you even more than I love shoes!

Excellent material combined with superior comfort and Zappos ability to reorder sizes make a great boot for my winter wardrobe. I originally ordered a size 9 because I have recently had surgery on both feet for reconstruction. I then ordered a size 8 1/2 and then a size 8 which fit perfectly. It has plenty of length and toe box to accommodate my surgery recovery. Very stylish for dresses and skirts while still accommodating for jeans tucked in.

These are the most comfortable boots I have ever had. I bought them partly because the insoles can be swapped with my own, but the insoles they came with are quite comfortable. These boots almost feel like bedroom slippers. They are not as trim as some other boots, especially with my 9.5 feet, but they are still quite stylish.

The boot is really pretty, and the foot size is perfect. However, for my calf size, the top circumference is too big. It is around 16, and 14 would do the trick. Too bad the shaft circumference is not adjustable.

I cannot decide about these boots. As others have commented, the circumference is narrow. I ordered another boot model by Merrell (Eventyr Cuff Waterproof), in the same size; according to the description, the Eventyr has a slightly smaller circumference, but the Captiva Buckle-up definitely feels tighter. Even the foot is tighter. Once they are on, they seem pretty comfortable, but they do take a little work to get zipped up. Not sure if I am keeping these or not. As to size, I consistently wear a 9 in Merrell products, these are a bit snug - definitely no room for heavier socks. I was looking for a winter boot, these are so snug, I am not sure if they will be warm enough.

These were super cute. I wish they came in a wide version. I could not zip them on my 15" calves. I had to return them.

These are great shoes for comfort, style and waterproof walking. I liked the look for both pants or skirts and I will take them on my upcoming European trip. I think the arch support could be a little better after a day of wearing them as I have flat feet. However, my feet did not hurt and the boots kept me dry and warm. They are snug with pants tucked inside but not a problem for me, athletic build and 5'6". Overall I am happy with these snazzy boots and have received compliments on them!

Pros, waterproof, super comfy, warm, can dress up or down (I wanted waterproof boots to wear to work with dresses/skirts that weren't rubbery-looking galoshes). Cons, not as nice-looking as the Merrell Spire Peak boots I had for years. The leather of these is more matte, so it looks a bit more casual.

I can't find a pair of tall boots that are not too wide around the top, and I thought these would be the ones, since several reviewers complained that the calves were too tight! But no, in a size 10, once again that means that the calves are pretty big. I do NOT have skinny calves, but I can't find ANY boots to wear with skirts that aren't too wide at the top. Otherwise, these are nice boots. just not what I was hoping for.

After growing out of my size 9.5 La Canadienne winter boots after pregnancy, I needed new waterproof boots that I could wear all day with any outfit (skirts, dresses, jeans). These boots fit my feet and legs pretty well and seem true to size. I ordered the 10.5 and the 10 and ended up keeping the 10. The heel is a little bit roomy, but it's not really a problem because the rest of the boot fits very well. The shaft is a little bit wide, but it works with this style and leaves plenty of room to tuck in pants. The footbed is super comfortable, and my toes have plenty of room. The last they use for these boots seems made for my feet!

I've always liked Merrell's boots; the reason I'm shopping for new boots now is because my seven-year-old pair is finally wearing out. Unfortunately this year Merrell doesn't have quite the right styles for me and the Captiva just didn't captivate. They're comfy enough, though the calf felt slightly wide to me (usually a 14" is what I need). Mostly I was disappointed by the color; they're more like a black suede than a shinier black leather, so that wasn't quite what I wanted and the photos didn't clarify that for me. The ankles weren't quite as spacious as I'd like, though I had that problem with my old Merrells until I broke them in so was expecting the same. Overall, it's a comfortable boot and definitely a good one for those of us who live in wet, rainy, and cool climates like the Pacific Northwest. If you want more of a sueded finish, check this one out.

Love this boot. I basically live in these during the winter. Living in the NW, being waterproof is a plus. I can also take out the footbed liner, and put my orthotics in. Had these 2 years, and thinking of ordering the Espresso pair too.

This boot is stylish but really small in the calf. I am of small to average build and it was a TIGHT squeeze to get it zipped up. I was hoping the elastic stretch piece would have more give to it, but it barely helped. The top of the boot was cutting off my circulation. Unless you have petite legs, it seems to me the average woman could not wear this shoe.

These should be labeled "Version 2.0" or something to indicate that they changed them. I do NOT have large calves; I read the reviews and assumed that they had trimmed them down a bit and that the people who couldn't zip them had large calves. I can zip these, but they are too tight to keep. I have a pair from a few years ago, and they fit great. They have definitely narrowed these. Good for people with truly skinny calves, but if you have nice, shapely legs (I am NOT particularly "curvy" or particularly "athletic" looking), they will be tight. I'm very disappointed in the change!

I was so jazzed about this boot after reading all the reviews. I have pretty narrow feet and normal calves, so I was not worried about the top of the boot being to narrow. The right calf was too big! I couldn't even zip it up (my right calf is 15"). I was really bummed, because the other boot was so comfortable. I ordered the buckle down version which is shorter and ended up fitting fine, but I worried it was too short to keep me warm.

I was really hoping to love these boots. I was going to be traveling to Europe and needed a comfy cute boot to walk around in all day. I read all the review. I noted that some people complained about the tight calfs- I have pretty small calfs so I was actually excited to find boots that wouldn't have big gaps between my leg and the boot. What I was not prepared for though, was how stiff and tight the ankles would be. They dug into my ankle so bad I could hardly wear them 20 minutes around the house. I could have waited it out to see if they stretched or broke in nicely, but for the price (and given my trip is fast approaching), I will be returning them. It's too bad because they are beautiful boots.

These looked great, but were too tight on the calf and it was hard to get my foot in... comfortable once on, with that great Merrell sole, but just too tight on the calf. So have to return these.

These boots are very comfy but not right for me. I wanted flat comfy boots that would look cute with casual dresses or leggings/tunics. I have slim calves and these gaped too much at the top of the calf. Also, the shoe is really wide and round shaped, and I felt like I had big baked potatoes on my feet. They were just too casual and dowdy for what I was looking for.

These boots are great looking but unfortunately I'm going to have to return them as they are too tight on my calf (my calf measures 15 1/4 in). I have a pair of Merrell boots that preceded this style that I'm guessing they don't make anymore. They are awesome, too bad!

I would have loved to have kept the boots but I could not zip them over my calf. I am an average size 5'3, 145 and was nowhere close to getting these zipped even without socks.

These boots are quite tall for anyone under 5'2". They come up very high on the calf and make it difficult to cross your legs/sit comfortably. Maybe for someone taller this would not be an issue. My other issue is that the calf is very wide/roomy. I can fit a full hand in the front and back. Again maybe not an issue for larger people, but if you are petite - these boots may be too tall/large. I noticed the boots had a very strong leather smell - like overwhelming. When I am wearing them it is all I can smell and it does not seem to be fading with time. I have owned other Merrell leather boots before and never had this issue. Overall these are not my favorite and probably not worth the price, but they were a gift and Zappos' new return policy made it impossible to exchange/return without forfeiting the gift entirely.

I loved these boots, but like many other reviews, too tight in the calf. I have to return them. Merrell, you need to add about 1/2".

These boots were very comfortable, but very unattractive. The shaft of the boot was too wide, and was further enhanced by the strange angled cut of the top. They are too piratey.

5'2" average size boot wearer: the calves on these were so small I couldn't properly zip them up. I am a runner but my calves aren't THAT big! The rest of the boot is lovely and I would love to keep but will sadly return.

These boots are beautiful but the calf is way too tight. I can't even zip them up and I don't normally purchase a wide calf boot. They also feel narrow across the foot. I own the Merrell Captiva Launch boots in an 8.5, so I expected these to fit similarly. The Launch boots zip to mid calf which is the widest part of my calf and they fit fine.
