These are the perfect workout and running shoes. I had two older pairs of Ariels and they were my favorites. I reserved one for at home indoor workouts (elliptical, etc.) and they lasted forever - with zero loss in support or comfort. I wear a 9½W in normal shoes, so usually go for a 10½D in athletic. Here, I wanted to be able to fit super-padded Thorlo socks (in winter, if I so chose!) and I saw reviews saying these might run narrow. So I overdid it and ordered a 10½EE. Yes, it is a bit roomy - okay a lot roomy - but it laces well and snugly, so it has been absolutely perfect. I can wear my thickest, most padded sports socks and I feel no pinch, anywhere! For daywear use or thin socks, I am sure the true size D would have been fine for me. The Ariel has the best roll-bar and overall support out there if you over-pronate. For working out I want to pay for engineered shoes when I need it, not a brand name or trendy colors. That said, the current color is okay if not my favorite; I am glad that it runs a bit darker, is not all whiteish; for that reason I upped the style Rating from three to four. I buy other sneakers for casual wear! If you appreciated the old Saucony tech and the like you will find comparable design and performance in the Ariel by Brooks. I would buy them again!

After reading other reviews, I was skeptical about buying these shoes. I have worn Brooks Ariel for years and love them. In fact, they are the reason I can walk without pain. I received the new pair today, and with fingers crossed, my custom orthotics fit perfectly. I also wear an air cast on my ankle for additional support, and that too, went into the shoe without a problem. Whew. Plus, these are pretty snazzy looking shoes. My size is an 11, extra wide, and I do notice that the toe box does not seem as deep, but that did not cause problems for me.

I love these shoes! Fit is great. Super comfortable. The laces are the correct length, not too long so they drag, and they stay tied. The color is great too. Not too dark, not too tight. They look like denim with just enough pop.

I have very flat feet. I had ordered a few pairs of running shoes to try out (Zappos is great that way). Compared to the Brooks Addiction & Ravenna, I found these to be the best for me because the had the most arch support & stiffest sole. My podiatrist said if he could write a book, he would just say "get a stiff sole, get a stiff sole." The less flexible a sole, the easier it is on your toe joints. Who knew? The style is okay. Wish it would be more cutting edge, but when I was younger & didn't know as much, I would have just bought Nike's for the style.

I love these shoes! I have not taken them off since they arrived, a few days ago. It is nearly impossible to get a shoe to fit me comfortable because of a Tailor's (pinkie side) bunion. Even the men's 4x wide cut into it, because they taper toward the mid foot. The shape of the last is perfect for me, also for my smaller bunion on the big toe side. This is the only shoe I've found where the last is shaped right for me. Add to that good cushioning, a nice arch support, gently pronation correction, and it is truly one of the most comfortable shoes I've found. Also, the toe is not pointy, unlike the toe of my NB shoe which is almost as comfortable, but which make me sore in the 1st mtp joint after a while. Unlike many orthopedic shoes, the heel is not too high. And most important to me, it is vegan. It is practically unheard of to find a vegan shoe this nice, and that also fits hard-to-fit feet! I couldn't be happier. And Tudors to Zappos for their endless patience in allowing me to try on and return a zillion shoes before finding these, their prompt shipping, and their exceptional customer service! To Brooks I ask that you never stop making this shoe, and could you please bring it out in a Gore-Tex version?

Great shoe, fit and cushion. I'm a nurse and cover some area so need arch and cushion. These fill that need!

Zappos transcends the guidelines of excellent customer service. I cannot say enough about their attention to detail. They are very good.

I have now bought 3 pairs of this style. It was recommended to me by my local running equipment store manager because I over probate on both ankles. We tried several style and brands. He would watch me walk and we found this brand and style was the only one that kept my ankles in the correct position. I am not a runner but I walk daily and workout several times a week. These are the most supportive and most comfortable pair of shoes I own. Some people say this style runs narrow for a medium and that may be true. I am a medium to narrow and I find these shoes to fit me perfectly.

I absolutely love these. This is my second pair of Brooks. They are terrific for my flat feet. I can walk or run for long periods of time now, with fewer shin splints and other aches and pains. I followed other reviewers' advice and ordered a size higher - an 8, whereas I usually wear 7 or 7½. The 8 fit well with a little wiggle room for thick athletic socks.

The insole in the left shoe pretty much collapsed in the first use. Back they go. I've had reconstructive ankle surgery on my left ankle, I don't need a shoe that's that unreliable and unstable.

i ordered a size 13 when I normally wear a women's 12. The shoe fit well but was much narrower then I expected. I kept the shoe for everyday walking around and they are very comfortable.

This shoe runs small by at least a half size. I am giving the pair I ordered to a daughter with shorter feet. Variation in size and quality is the new norm in the world of shoes. Perhaps outsourcing means less consistent Quality control?

I have worn Brooks before and loved them. This style was recommended by my podiatrist. I ordered my normal size and length wise it fit well. But the width area over the ball of my foot was too snug. So I am returning them.
I'd also recommend:

This shoe runs at least a half size too short. But when I go to an 11 M (I am a 10.5 N), the shoe totally comes off my heel. Even the 10.5 M does not stay on my foot well. If you are going to make 10.5, please make it in narrow as well.

I keep ordering other shoes and always go back to these. I have a wide foot and wear orthotics and these are absolutely the best. I hate the color. They are a dark grey and magenta and absolutely go with nothing I wear, but I will continue to wear them until the put out a new color and then I will buy the new color and throw these away.

I love Brooks but this model doesn't have the wide toe box that my other Brooks shoes do. The cushioning and the support felt great on my low arches. I also have PF and my feel felt great in this shoe. However, the shoe felt a little too tight/narrow through the whole foot. The back of the heel also comes up higher than some of my other Brooks and thus rubs the back of my ankle when walking. I can't get past the feeling so these will be going back. Otherwise I'd try to order a wide with to see if it felt roomier in the toes but I'm sure the heel area would be just as high and rub also. I hope they do a redesign soon and offer more colors as well.

I have been wearing Ariel for several years and loved them! Had to send these back due to a too tight toe box. I would have ordered a wide but Zappos did not have it. Thank you Zappos for your great service and I will try to find the right replacement for these on you website!

After 2 foot operations I only wear Brooks. But I bought 2 of the Ariel 14s - different colors same size. This one was smaller than the 1st pair. It happens. I still love Brooks.

Next time I'll order extra wide as they are considerably narrower than the Ariel 12 from a few years ago and I have to limit myself to using lightweight socks when I wear them. They are great shoes for flat feet like mine.

I suffer from Plantar Fascitis. When I first put these on I was rejoicing as my pained feet were now floating in little puffy clouds of comfort.
Alas, after an hour I realized that my feet were going numb as they were too tight across the top. I couldn't loosen them, as the tongue is sewn to the shoe! Brooks Customer Service said to buy the Glycerin instead and that the Ariel 16, coming in Sept 16, won't have the tongue sewn to the shoe.

These are very attractive shoes. They are much more snug than my Adrenalines that I bought last year. There are two issues for me. I have swollen, arthritic feet and need the extra wide. But the tongue is attached to the sides, where there is a nifty little pouch for a little cash or maybe a key, I think (one on each side). But this limits the amount I can loosen the laces. Then the back of the shoe is very stiff and higher than my other shoes, digging into the back of my ankle. Great shoes for someone else, just not for me.

Brooks Ariel has been my go-to walking/fitness shoe for over 12 years. The design gas changed/modified in that time and not always for the better, but not enough to switch to another shoe. Current model (Ariel 14) features lacing holes that are not reinforced, I ripped through in my last pair when lacing up. Also, I do not care for the tongue being sewn in place. Set for redesign next year, I am hoping for improvement to bring them back to five star status.

Since they changed the GTS, I have been trying to find a shoe to support my over-pronation. These shoes do a good job. They could be just a tad longer. I can order in the 11N because it is already a bit wide on me. Please guys, do not cut off the toe box like you have been.

Look smart. Light, and breathable, good for summer, but not Seattle rain. Enough comfort & cushion, hug my feet relatively well, feet don't feel loose or rolling inside even though I'm wearing 7.5 wide (D width), esp when used all 6 eyelets. What makes me started to like Brooks is its availability in width choices.
