Great job on removing those floppy duffel carry handles. All they ever did was get in the way and snag on my elbows while trying to put my arms through the backpack straps. The new low profile quick grab handles are a MUCH better design!

Durability reliability and dependability in my opinion these are the greatest bags in the world!!! Whatever size you might need you will not be disappointed I use these duffel bags for everything for traveling work as an overnight bag and especially in place of suitcases ...

This may be controversial but I absolutely love the new design and actually prefer it over the older design. The handles on the side of the bag just below the zip are, in my mind, an excellent replacement for the traditional bulky handles. I see a lot of criticism for the new design but I would encourage everyone to try the new version first. It's sleeker, stylish and far more practical. Well done North Face. I've already bought 4 of these bags as gifts for family.

I've used this bag for over a year now for day to day use while flying in the Arctic. It's held up very well to the abuse of being tossed around in the gravel, snow and ice. Plenty of space for all my survival gear (Axe, tarp shelter, stove, dehydrated meals, ski googles, sat tracker, fire starter.. etc) lunch, small thermos, and a change of clothes. I've also taken it on snow shoe hikes, fishing and, used it as a gear bag while winter camping. The shoulder straps are comfortable but its not really ment for an extended hike. The compression straps work well to minimize the bag to carry on size. I also have the duffel in size large to carry gear for month long flight postings in remote camps. I've used bags from Gregory and MEC, but this TNF bag is by far one of the best pieces of gear I own.

Backpack straps are great. Haters need to buy literally and other duffel bag and relax. Buying two more for my kids.

North Face Base Camp Duffle Small I've had this bag for longer than I can remember, I bought it back when I was in the Navy out in VA and it's been my go to bag for everything since I've had it... One of its functions over the years has been my motorcycle bag for the several different bikes l've had and it was usually held on by a bungie cord most of the time. Well since bungie cords sometimes tend to let go when you least expect, especially when in a hurry to get to work, the bag has rolled down the highway a few times. Twice before I noticed the moment it let go and was off the throttle right away and able to run back to grab it with nothing more than dirt and a few scuff marks to show for its 60+ mph tumble down the road... This last time I wasn't so lucky.... 0450 I get to work, reach back for my bag and it's gone!!! My stomach dropped... I hopped on the bike and raced back to get it.... This time when I'd gotten to the bag it had been run over, possibly more than once, even though it's bright yellow!?!? My lunch bag and all its contents had exploded inside the bag and my favorite coffee mug was flattened and shrapnel of all its parts were floating around with my extra riding gloves... With liquid dripping out I strapped it back on the bike and headed off to work... No coffee for me that morning... That night I get home and after a good rinse and a run through the washing machine it's still usable!!! List of its injuries: Two of the plastic cinch buckles broke, one for a shoulder strap the other for one of the cinch straps, the plastic key there's a small hole in the bottom along a seam that let go, next to a cut in the black Cardura, not all the way through the bag, but this "is" where the metal coffee cup was flattened in its defense, a few more scuff marks and a couple oil stains that didn't come out in the wash... All in all y'all make a very tough bag!!! Thanks! Todd

Just got back from a 3 week European journey using only this bag and it was perfect for my trekking and carry-on needs! If you're debating between this size or the medium size for carry-on use, I would highly recommend getting this small size as anything larger would have been required to be checked. Fit perfectly in both the major airline carry on testers as well as the smaller airline testers that I used to hop from country to country. If you're a minimalist like me, you can easily fit all you'd need in this bag for a 2-3 week hostel/hotel based journey. Very easy to pack and carry. Extended treks can become slightly uncomfortable as the shoulder straps aren't extremely padded. I've walked up to about 20 kilometers with this bag on my back and I noticed shoulder soreness about halfway through. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for extended backcountry trips as it's not comfortable or large enough for camp gear and clothes/equipment. Also, I'm not extremely confident in its waterproofing/repellent capabilities as some of my clothes inside were wet after walking about 5km in medium to heavy rain. The contents did stay dry through a lot of light rain, however. Overall, I have no regrets purchasing this bag and would definitely recommend it to anyone using it as described above!

I work in advertising and commercial videography/photography by trade, and as a consequence, I've been all over the world many times with my NF duffs riding shotgun. From the deserts of Dubai, to the Alps of the Swiss, these bags just work. In terms of their utility, there is simply no other bag that is as utilitarian. Lightweight from the start, they allow me to pack more gear. Of course, because of their volumetric exceptionalism, it's not hard to overfill them - it's a double edged sword really. Perhaps that's the only downside, hauling these beasts around fully stuffed. #selfcontrol #whatsthat I currently own two large, one XL, and a Rolling Thunder 30. In terms of construction quality and durability, you can treat these bags like absolute sh#@ and they just lift their middle finger and flash you a grin in response. It's fantastic. Also worth noting, is their completely flat/rolled (user's choice) form factor when empty. I store my three duffs inside of my Rolling Thunder 30 when not in use. So four bags taking up the space of one - great for tight spaces. ;) They also make you seem way more interesting than you actually are. For example, when I walk through many airports with them in tow, I am often stopped and asked what kind of insane "adventure" I'm off to/coming from. I think there is still a solid stereotype worldwide that North Face gear, especially duffles, means you scale the side of death defying remote mountaintops in far off lands for fun. When you answer, "Nah, just visiting family in Kalamazoo," the looks of confusion are worth their weight in gold. Ha. So, in summary... buy a North Face Base Camp and not only can you fit all your sh@# inside of it, you instantly become way more cool than you actually are. #NFDuffsFTW

Between my wife and I we own every size and two of the large bags. We absolutely love them! Easy storage when you're not using them, then great amount of storage when you do use them. Also grab a different color so when you do go to grab your bag off the baggage claim you know it's yours!

The duffel is great for a weekend's worth of clothes and it fits perfectly on my back with the backpack straps. Would buy it again but it's so durable I doubt I'll have to!

The North Face Duffel bag is a great companion to everything I need. I use to ride a motorcyle in a daily basis and the bag works for me because I can carry it like a backpack. Besides, if there's a rain comming, the bag is resistent to water. It helps to keep my stuff dry. When I have a short travel (going out for the weekend, or a complete week off) the bag works just fine. I loved the bag. The quality and the looks are awesome. I'm sure that I'll have a bigger size to use in a bigger travel.

I use this bag for short trips and it fits quite a lot of things!! It might look small but don't judge a book by it's cover! Overall it's lightweight, spacious and I can bring it almost anywhere I go. A good size bag for general purpose.

This bag is impressive and very thick, rugged material was used in crafting it. The zippers are chunky with good pulls and have not snagged or stopped as of yet. I have packed it to maximum capacity, it's very roomy (the Large). I have used it for photo/video/audio/drone gear when filming out in the field. Packed it full with clothes. And just random stuff when I take drives out of town or to and from here and there. I've thrown it down snow banks, over snow mounds, into deep snow in general. It's been tossed in and out of my jeep many times. The compartment on the end is good for small stuff, trinkets, knives, earbuds, gum, toothpaste, toiletries, polaroids, tools, batteries, keys, etc. There is a mesh pocket within that keeps more valuable or small things in a mesh net pocket for easier separation and location of items. There's a mesh zipper lining under the main flap, to also keep things like small things, snacks, keys. I also keep a pair of my girlfriend's panties in it for when i'm away on trips and start to miss her. The bottom is double lined, reinforced with a thick ballistic canvas. I am tempted to put a bunch of sticks and dirt in the bag and drag it by a rope out the back of my jeep just to prove its rugged durability, but i'll refrain from doing that. The TNF black looks good, classic. Those other extravagant color schemes and designs aren't really something i'd use, although i've considered getting a second one in a different color to tell them apart, such as the black with spruce green trim, or the grey or something. Also considered getting one size up (the XL) since I tend to carry a lot of stuff on adventures, weekend trips, and driving back and forth from my apartment in the mountains, to visiting friends and family in the city on the weekends, etc. I think two would be good for my traveling. One with my camera/video/audio/drone gear in it, and the other with clothes, and usual personal items and whatnot. Anyway this bag is definitely worth buying

I initially ordered a gray/duck green small duffel which was listed as only one left. So I knew I was gambling with the possibility of it being out of stock. Of course my hunch was correct and I was sent the incorrect bag. I contacted customer service and spoke with Emma. She went ABOVE and BEYOND and was able to find the TNF black instead of my first choice. This is my first experience ordering from Zappos and I am completely amazed by the level of customer service and shipping time. Thank you Emma for making this incorrect order the best online customer service experience. The duffel bag is a great size, just have to get used to only having backpack straps instead of handles or a dedicated shoulder strap. The bag seems indestructible due to the thickness. Wish I bought it a little sooner...like 5 years ago. Can't wait to put it to the test.

For years I've traveled with one of these bags (in the older medium style) as an additional, checked gear bag. Cliched-down, half empty at the start of a trip and many times back home, almost full, that bag has come rolling out of a lot of baggage belt black holes. I think this new bag design is even better! The new handle and shoulder strap redesign, pushed me to buy a new "small" for carryon. I think it will make the perfect under the seat, "adjustable" backpack, a viable replacement for my Surge, which is too small for the camera bag, etc. I keep trying to make it swallow. The zippered pocket at the shoulder strap top end of the bag makes it even better. Surprising that some other competitor high-end duffels don't have the compression straps, the most import element of this bag for me. Only problem now is I want a blue one too.
