Returned as it was too large. More of a parka than a jacket. Quality good but size not.

The jacket is excellent. It is perfect for the NW. My only concern is the size. The XL is a bit tight and the XXL is a bit to big.

I was concerned about the size after reading reviews from other buyers so, I ordered a Large rather than X-Large. Although a little snug around the middle (a two-way zipper would help), the sleeves are too long by two-three inches. Must've been fitted for the ski patrol or sheriff hence, the long arms? My normal XL would definitely have been way too big. Not loose enough to layer with a fleece or sweater but I got this jacket to wear as a winter "car coat" in upstate New York. Also, don't know what the inside snap-flaps are for or how they're used but a skier might like them. The removable hood is lightly padded and not just a thin swatch of cloth; a thoughtful, winter touch.

This is a well made quality jacket that one would expect from Columbia and a good value as well. Product reviews from indicate that this jacket runs larger and I agree. It seems sizing varies greatly in the clothing industry probably because many people are overweight. It is difficult for people that are in good shape to shop online..

Coat is great. I like the sleeve pocket. Great for DL and credit cards. Warm. Shipping took a long time.

Nice jacket, but to big for me. I usually wear a size large and that is what I ordered. I ended up returning it.

This warm, practical jacket won out over more costly competitors because of it's fit, style and surprisingly thoughtful features.
Columbia's fit runs slightly large which is perfect for a "tweener" like me who bounces between L and XL. It hits all the skiing benchmarks like a snap away ski skirt, inside and outside chest pockets, goggle and pass pockets all coupled with a well done "zipper and Velcro" removable hood for those days without precipitation.
It is also built for WARMTH. I'm a big fan of pit zips but that feature would be more appropriate for a nice layering skiing shell rather than this synthetic fill and thermal-reflective lining jacket.
Definitely purpose built.
Knowing the Alpine Action's price point it's hard to fault it for much but a couple of changes might help. In the interest of safety a more helmet friendly hood would be nice. Also how about putting the interior and exterior pockets on opposite sides of the zipper to cut down on bulkiness when you use both?
I do know I'm rocking the boat on an industry standard design with the latter but it would be nice if someone stepped up to redesign those wonderful pockets. How about you Columbia?
Overall a terrific jacket worth consideration by those who enjoy carving turns on the slopes. Keep an eye out for me in Colorado next month in all my orange glory!

I'm an Asian man - 5'8 155lbs. I'm usually in between S and M but ordered M thinking that I should leave some room for layering. M is WAY too big. Returned it and got size S and it's still pretty big, especially the sleeve is quite long. The fabric and the style are quite good.

Extremely high quality jacket with pockets in all the right places. Its very warm but a little on the heavy side which is to be expected from a high insulation jacket. Its a bit stiff but i assume that will ease up with use. Very pleased

Ordered the orange one. Nice color when arrived. Always like me a front chest pocket for small items for quick access. Sizing is on the large size. I'm 6'0" and 190lbs for reference. A medium would fit me perfectly. Only gripe is that I can't exchange it. You have to return and order a new one. When I went to place a new order, the price of the jacket had gone up. Other than that, the jacket was very warm and nice for layering even if you don't bring it to the slopes. Good dexterity while wearing the jacket.

The only problem is that the sleeves are small and tight-I had to return it for another style coat.

Purchased this jacket for my 16 year old son (slim build) to wear skiing. He normally wears a small and the small in this jacket was a bit too big, but not enough to return. He stated that the jacket was warm (skiing in temps below 20 degrees) and comfortable. He also liked the number of pockets. Venting would be a great addition for warmer days on the slopes. The light blue color is very nice. Can't rate for durability as he's only worn it for a week, but it seems well made.

This is a very good ski jacket for the money. Excellent fit and style as well as color choices. Nice locations for pockets inside and out. Only recommendation would be to add zipper vents under the arms. This is a very important function for ski jackets on warm days.
Overall this is a very well-made jacket that I would recommend it

I got this jacket for a ski trip I was going on in Colorado. I chose this jacket because it was totally waterproof and bring a first time skier this jacket got tested constantly! It was also incredibly warm in single digit weather while only wearing a long sleeved shirt underneath. It also had plenty of pockets for all the stuff I needed to carry with me.
My only complaint is that is seems that this may be the only Columbia product that is actually larger than its size. I got an XL and it seemed very long. It fit snugly just long. Came well below my waist. Sizing with Columbia clothes has always been an issue for me.
Overall great product! Would recommend

Overall style and material of this product feels very good. It did run a bit longer on the sleeves than I thought, making it look a little long on me. Using the cuff straps helps a bit but arms still scrunches up a bit.

Purchased for Husband, after reading the reviews about the size, we purchased the Medium size, Fits perfect, 5" 8" long enough in the arms and body. Light enough for running errands but warn enough for a long walk in the park. Loves the ability to snug the wrist up tight and ability to lose the hat when necessary.
Coat lives up to its description. He loves it.

This jacket kept me warm. There was a lot of flexibility as it came a little too big for my liking. The elastic band around the back worked 80% of my falls(had snow creep up my back once) . But overall a good jacket for the price and Columbia quality

I purchased this jacket for average winter conditions. It is exactly what I was looking for. If I changed anything I would add zipper breath areas to the jacket for warm days.

It is my second Alpine Action Jacket. I am very happy with this jacket. I use it for skiing in Cerro Catedral (Argentina). Withstands temperatures well below -20 Celsius, snowfall and light rain. It is really comfortable, with several pockets to store the ski pass, wallet, glasses and cell phone, the internal pocket has a little hole to pass by headphones cable. The fabric is very nice. If It had ventilation under my arms It would be the ideal five star jacket. I hope they can improve it with this feature in the future.

Looks and feels like it will stand up to snow activities. But, although it claims to be black in color, it's not. It's kind of a dark blue/green color. Not worth it to return, since I think otherwise it's a pretty good jacket and a great deal.

Tested on Sugarbush slopes March 2019. Comfortable in some pretty cold early spring weather. Plenty of pockets for gadgets, etc., especially sleeve pocket for digitized ski pass. Good zippers and Velcro backup, too. Should be fine for winter 2019/spring 2020, given prospects for even more global warming. Hope to test it in Colorado then.
