Despite some reviews, this jacket doesn't have underarm vents. Vents let me cool off from exertion without opening the front of the jacket to the Michigan winter cold. I'm out for a couple of hours at a time most days, tromping through the dog park or walking my dog through the neighborhood. The Alpine Action may have had underarm vents in previous years, but the jacket I just received has none. Other than that, the jacket has all the best Columbia features: snap-back snow skirt, thumb holes in the cuff extensions, soft zippered hand pockets on the sides, deep inside front pocket, outside front pocket, super-adjustable removable hood, cold-blocking high neck, inside sunglasses/goggles holder, Omni Heat warmth technology and Omni Shield waterproofing. I'm 5'6" and 135 lbs. After reading hundreds of reviews that said the jacket runs small, I ordered a large. At first I thought it was too big. With just a thermal undershirt and a little top, there was so much extra space I feared the jacket wouldn't keep me warm. Then I tried it on with thermal undershirt, fleece turtleneck and sweater -- normal layering when the temperature drops into the teens or single digits. It's perfect. If you primarily wear your winter jacket over work or dress clothes in the car and to get from parking lot to building entrance, order according to the size chart. If you wear it to spend real time outside, order the next size up.

Our daughter wanted a quality winter jacket that could stand up to the winters we have here in Lockport, New York (close to Buffalo, New York). If you know anything about the weather we get here in the Buffalo area, you know you need a coat that can stand up to the elements, and this one certainly does. The styling is what caught our daughter's eye, but the quality and dependability of Columbia products is what sold us on buying this jacket for her. She is happy, we are happy. Win, win!

I don't even layer when I use this Jacket. It keeps me warm even in subzero temperatures (Celcius not Fahrenheit). Fits perfectly, I ordered a size M, Im 5'6 and 127lbs and allows me to layer when I have to. It also looks really good.

I originally loved this jacket from the first time i tried it on. It just fits to my body the way a jacket should. I get really cold in the winter, I've tried the two in one jackets, puffy jackets, ect which were all warm i guess but just awkward and uncomfortable to put on over clothes. This jacket is lightweight AND warm. It's got reflective material in the inside that keeps you warm. And guys, it really does work. I didn't buy it for snowboarding or skiing i bought it for my regular everyday winter jacket. It keeps me warm, i love the color, it fits perfect, and it looks good with jeans, a dressier night out, or even sweatpants. It was the best decision i ever made. For reference i am 5'6" 128lbs i got the small in Black and it fits perfect. I can fit a sweatshirt under it but also wear it without one and it's not lose. I like my gear to fit my body pretty snug.

I looked all over for the perfect winter coat this year, and I definitely found it. The color is just as pictured and I love the form fitting style. I like all the pockets and the Omni Heat is wonderful to keep you warm without overheating. Definitely worth the price for a great coat!

I love this jacket! I ordered it in "Nocturnal" color, and it's very true to the image online, a blueish grayish color with pink accents. This jacket seems to "run small" but really it's actually just an "active fit", per the size and fit guide, which says we can expect it to be "body skimming". So it actually fits just how they said it would: snug. I normally wear medium and my medium jacket fits me quite cozy. Be prepared for this! If you like lots of room in your winter coat for big sweaters or layers, then definitely order a size up from what you normally wear. If you like a more fitted and feminine look then order the size you normally wear. The waterproofing is fantastic, which is a main reason I chose this jacket. The windproof zippers work great, no chills! I am not the least bit cold with the omniheat feature, even though the jacket isn't bulky or puffy. This coat is a work of art and modern science! The only (small) complaint is the hood is a little bit of a challenge to loosen back up after you've tightened it with the pull strings.

I owned this same jacket different color for three years, I needed a fresh color! I ski every single weekend in New Hampshire and I love this jacket, it's warm, roomy, perfect pocket placement for chapstick, phone, credit cards... The hood is removable and it's very comfy. I would absolutely recommend this jacket for skiing or for any day in the winter!

I was looking for a high quality classy coat that I can feel dressed up in the winter but also use on the slopes and can match anything I wear. I love this jacket! Columbia makes the best coats.

My first Columbia jacket is ongoing that is very similar to this one. I bought it almost 10 years ago, & it still got lots of life left! The Omni-Heat really does the trick! At this price, it's a steal! If I had the extra money, I might buy it in a Small instead of the Medium I bought years ago. I thought I would need to layer, but the first snow storm & cold snap, I found myself unzipping not only the main front zipper, but the underarm vents as well! For reference, I'm 5'4", 95 lbs with boots on, however I'm short-waisted, small chested, & I think my arms are long, yet I've never had any problems with the arms being long enough with Columbia! Pay attention to the fit style. If you want extra room, order up, if you're ok with thin layers, order your regular size. Trust Columbia. They won't let you down!

Well maybe I consider this jacket to run bigger than normal because I'm 5'0" and around 105 lbs, but the XS is still a little big for me. I had a friend try it on and she is around 5'3"-5'4" and I thought it fit her well. I bought this jacket because I needed a snowboarding jacket for Lake Tahoe, CA. After one run, I took off my long sleeve and just used this jacket with a tank top under for the rest of the day and found that it provided enough warmth. I did fall, however, and snow did get under the jacket with the powder skit snapped on, but again, I am very petite. I think armpit vents would make this jacket more complete.

This coat is very warm and super cute. I am a huge fan of Columbia's puffer style jackets but decided to try this one because it looked warmer and it has lots of pockets. I hate carrying a purse so I love pockets in my clothes especially my jackets. I don't ski or snowboard but I hate being cold. This jacket is cozy. It is a fitted jacket so I ordered a size bigger because I wear hoodies and I didn't want it to be too tight. I really like the cuffs with the thumb holes. My only complaint is the chin area. It is super stiff when zipped all the way up and it can be a little annoying, but it keeps every bit of cold air out so I can live with it. Other than that it is great!

I love this coat. I originally ordered a Large based on some reviews stating in runs small but I ended up returning it for the medium. I think it fits true. I love the extra lining by the wrists which extends the length of the sleeves, with thumbholes. It's very comfortable and sharp looking. I would reccomend and I would repurchase. Nice and warm also without the bulk.

I just wore this jacket for 5 days in Park City Utah skiing and it was great! Love the pockets for your lift ticket and cell phone. It does run a little big. I am normally a medium and ordered a large. It was perfect after I got my base layer on to ski.

I ordered this coat with no idea what fit I would find and was pleasantly surprised to discover a trim look with lots of extras. The sleeve extension with thumb holes are great for keeping out the cold and there are lots of adjustment options and pockets. The fabric has a rather dressy look to it such that I was comfortable wearing it everywhere. I purchased the black in size small which was perfect for my 5'4" 110# frame. Very posh.

I received this coat as a Christmas gift. It runs just a bit small, I normally wear a medium and a large fits perfectly. I am a university prof and the omni heat keeps me toasty warm on those cold campus morning walkabouts.
