I tried on the spitfire 31R. The quality and color of these jeans is awesome. Thick denim and nice detailing. However I returned them because I found the bootcut was too wide for my liking. They seemed more like bell bottoms than bootcut. I find most brands of western bootcut jeans run bigger and longer than their tag indicates and these were no exception. I'm a 33x34 and the 31R fit perfectly. If it wasn't for the extra wide bootcut I would have kept them.
I'd also recommend:
Shyanne, Apt 9, Levis

I normally wear a size 4 and according to the Ariat size chart I would need a size 27. I first ordered a 27 short (I'm 5 ft. 3 inches) They were pretty loose, bagging in the thigh and seat and very wide in the leg. I sent them back for a size 26 short and they are much better. The rise shrunk after the first wash making them dig in a little in my belly but I hope it will stretch and form from wear. The size 26 fit much better in the seat and thigh and the wide leg wasn't so overly wide like the next size up. I wish they were a little looser in the stomach. The denim is thick but has nice stretch. Haven't ridden in them yet. oh, and the length in 26 short is just right. 27 short was at least a couple inches too long.

No longer vented as pictures show. I loved the vented, boot cut style in the picture. I have a short version to wear with shoes and sneakers. And a regular version to wear riding with cowboy boots. The new version is no longer vented and very flared. I'm so sad because I loved the version in the pictures. Sending back.

Very nice dark wash structured seaming, but way too long for being advertised as a short length. My height is 5'3 and even with boots on, they are still too long. It would be time consuming to hem as they have a slit sewn in the side of the hem, and for the price, I just don't feel you should have to go to the added expense. These jeans would be perfect if the short length measured about an inch or so shorter.

I am 5'8", 155 lbs, 31" waist, 41" hips, and ordered the 32. It fits perfectly, which I am very pleased about - I was afraid I would have to return it for being too large. I chose one inch up because I dislike tight-fitting jeans, and these are very comfortable - no problems moving around, no problems with muffin top when I sit in them. I don't even think I would need a belt, though I will probably wear one as a matter of course. I did not notice any problems with gaping at the back, despite ordering one size up. My only complaint is that the photo is somewhat misleading. I was expecting, from the photo, that the jeans would be fairly straight and "hug" my leg from thigh to ankle. They do not - I would, frankly, describe them as almost trouser or wide-leg in style. I actually felt that I looked shorter in the mirror as a result - a first for me. As I must have my jeans altered anyway (my right leg is 1/2" shorter than my left) I will simply have the tailor take in the excess fabric. This is NOT a deal breaker for me, but it was actually pretty disappointing - I don't like having to alter the very shape of a pair of jeans like this. I also ordered the Turquoise Blackened A pair of jeans, which I have yet to receive, and I am expecting them to have the same issue. The quality of the jeans is outstanding - I can tell these will last quite a long time, and probably against whatever abuse I throw at them. These are far higher in quality than other jeans I have purchased, from other companies, at a much higher price. These will definitely not be the last pair of Ariats I buy, and it is actually quite likely that Ariat will be my go-to jeans from now on. Aside from the issue of leg style, which can be corrected by a tailor, these jeans are fantastic. Just be prepared that they will appear wider on you than they do on the model.

I do not ride anything...except maybe a bike now and then. I love the feel and fit of these jeans. I'm the manager of a hardware store that is Ace--es, and part of the dress code is black jeans. Hard to find anything that has some style and yet comfortable, these jeans are both. I am a die-hard LEVI fanatic, and have been for all of my adult life 50+ I will now add Ariat to the list! Oh, and of course (you already know) ZAPPOS ROCKS!

Great jeans to ride in! Only rating it overall 4 stars because the short length is still very long! If you wear the jeans with chunky boots, then you won't have a problem with the length.

High quality, but runs LARGE in the leg. For a mid rise, I definitely ordered one size too large, but I have never had such baggy a fit after it said "slim" in the description. I like a boot cut that hugs my thighs and fits over my boots. Like most people that have ever worn jeans.

I bought these in my normal size twenty-nine short. They stretch too much for me and became loose.

The boot cut is opening is more of a flare; definitely not a boot cut compared to any boot cut jeans I've ever owned. I'm always hesitant when a fit is described as slim through hips and thighs because I have curvy. I found these actually seemed to run a bit big so there was not an issue and they were, in fact, looser than preferred.

The size (32) I ordered was my too big by my own error, as I've recently lost weight, but had automatically ordered my old size. I'm returning the jeans with no help from Customer Service. I love Ariat, but if the service continues to be like this, I may rethink where i buy. The mid rise is lower than other brands; I'll stick with perfect or high when possible. The boot cut opening is larger than other Ariat styles; it's almost closer to a flare.

I'm bummed by these ones, they're the perfect rinse for me so I was excited for them (many of the boot cuts are a bit dark or don't have enough fading on the thighs as these), but when I tried them on they are quite relaxed throught the hip and thighs. I prefer the slimmer fit to the knees. Had to return as they look stretched out on me and they defintely don't "hug" in the right places for nice curves.

I calculated the size i would need since i wear a size 10, and it said i was a size 28 waist and it's a smidge to small. I could've gone with a 30 waist.

I tried these jeans on in the store and it was a perfect fit. Unfortunately when I had them shipped they were way to big. I am definitely bummed I had to return them.

Quality material, but fits more like a wide, straight jean (there was a lot of excess material at the knees and wide-leg opening). Waist fit as expected, mid-rise as expected, but wider, oversized leg throughout the jean than a normal boot cut, not what I expected. I did return these, it wasn't the fit I was wanting.

Short length still too long. Had ordered regular length and they were too long so ordered short and still too long. Only 1" difference in length between regular and short.

Fits well. I am more wide in the hips and short but I bought a regular which is way too long for me. I thought I was average regular. But Ariat size runs longer. So a 30" inseam is SHORT!. Don't make my mistake. Otherwise, fit is comfortable.

The fit and length are absolutely perfect and they are so comfortable. The only issue I had is that there is a small rip in the leg that wasn't made by any outside object. I don't know how the rip got there but it's unraveling quickly...

I have been wearing these jeans almost exclusively for about 6 years now, and I love them. Not sure what is going on with my most recent pair, though- I ordered the same model and waist size as the other two pairs in my closet, which fit like a glove, but ordered regulars instead of longs. I couldn't get the buttons within an inch of each other! I thought I'd somehow become obese in the week since I'd worn my old ones, but they were only slightly more snug than usual when I put them back on to check. I don't know how a waist size measured in inches can vary to that degree- but I still love the jeans enough that I'm exchanging them for a couple sizes up.
