I really like how sturdy and weighty this mat feels. It feels very supportive. Having trouble breaking it in though. I've salted it twice and have lost my footing a couple of times. It's very hot where I am which probably makes it more slippery when I practice yoga. Using a hand towel in the meantime for more grip. Otherwise it's a beautiful well crafted mat.

Love my new mat. Just feels really good to practice on. My only complaint is that the surface is not as sticky as I would want it - my hands slip a bit in downward dog.

Love my new pro mat! A little heavy and bulky but worth carrying it around anyway, my practice feels so much more steady with it!

This is a great mat. The touch is nice, and has a warm, inviting feeling. However, your hands and feet do slide a bit, and you need to make sure to put extra attention to keep them firmly on the spot. Not sure how it would work when you are sweated.

Bought another Manduka yoga mat. Their products are high quality but was a bit disappointed that this mat is more of a grey color than black as the description notes.

I have had this mat for about a month and like the weight of the mat, it's size and texture; however, despite scrubbing the mat with salt as instructed, my hands still slip after a few minutes of practice.

I bought my mat a few months ago and loved it immediately. It feels luxurious to practice on. The only thing that I am still getting used to and am not sure that I love is the weight of the mat when carrying it from place to place. It is heavier than I expected.

I bought this mat about a month ago to use at home since I have tile floors & no area rug in my living room, for when I practice yoga at home. The tile is brutally hard, so I wanted the thickest mat on the market. It definitely delivers! I followed the first time use instructions & applied a thick layer of salt on the mat & let it sit overnight, to help break it in. It was a very messy clean up, I must say, since I decided to do it inside. I was too afraid to leave my beautiful mat outside, on my back porch, since my yard gets frequent visitors from neighboring cats, raccoons & possums. Even though I doubt they would have any interest in a mini salt mine, I didn't want to risk ruining my pricey new mat. I've been using it 3-4 times a week since, working on my form in challenging poses and inversions. Boy is this bad boy slippery! Maybe I didn't do a good enough job cleaning off the salt? But it seems that the mat, almost makes me sweat?? I practice mostly hot power yoga & am a serious sweater in general, but I have the a/c on in my house, so I was surprised at how quickly whatever part of my body came in contact with the mat, started to sweat. No worries though, I anticipated this based on reviews and friends who have the mat, had told me. So I put down my hot yoga towel & thought that would surely solve it. Only by 50%. I was still sliding & having a hard time keeping my feet firmly planted in Warrior II & similar poses. Now I've started taking my mat with me to hot yoga, in the hopes that I can speed up the "breaking in" process & literally sweat out my mat. So far, no major changes. In summary, amazing quality mat. Beautifully constructed, seriously thick & extra large. But just like everyone has told me "it takes FOREVER to break in". For the record, I'm ok with that because I plan on always using a towel when I practice hot yoga. I don't like the sensation of having to literally lay in a pool of my sweat. Just personal preference. I'm just hoping I stop sliding around on my towel, soon.

This mat is great, I love how dense it is.....the only thing is I sweat a LOT, I find when I sweat that I have to keep readjusting my hands cause I'm slipping a bit, not much but that's cause I"m a big sweaty mess

I'm still building a relationship with my mat, which I've had only a few weeks. So far I really like the texture, the support, and "cushion" it provides. I'm still adjusting to the weight of it as I transport it to and from class, which is why I didn't rate it excellent, at this time. It's heavy, but I think it will be a worthwhile concession in order to enjoy the other benefits of this mat.

Love my mat. Soak in the sun for a few hours, scrub with coarse salt, then let stand 24 hours. Scrub with salt again. Makes it less slick. Provides super support and cushioning for knees

Unless you practice in your home. Way to heavy to be carrying around. Bad choice for me.

I have been using this mat for 2 weeks now and I really enjoy doing yoga on it. The mat is thick, supportive and it's grippy. I didn't do the salt scrub initially as the stickiness of the mat was ok, but wanted to get the film off. This mat gets better the more you use it. I am so glad I got it and it's much better in quality than my old PVC mat. The only downside it is much heavier than my old mat but that is a small price to pay. I hope it last a lifetime !

Immediately you can tell the difference between a good yoga mat and a cheap one. I am loving my new manduka black mat so far! Purchasing a manduka bag to carry my mat in was one of the best decisions I've made!

I was a fan of the Lulu mat for its stick, but I was growing tired of how dirty it would get and how it would absorb sweat. I just felt like I was practicing on germs and it was really messing with my flow (see what I did there?). I had tried Manduka before but slipped constantly and had given away my Pro years ago. But, I decided to give it another try, and I'm so glad I did. I did a little research and found the salt scrub method for breaking in the mat and making it more sticky. Holy cow, it's a whole new ball game! Trhe mat is sticky, cushy enough to be comfy without messing with balance, and feels sturdy enough to last a lifetime. I am officially a Manduka convert. I'm in love!

Still breaking it in! I love how it cushions my knees and elbows. It is taking some getting used to the weight when I go to class and how slippery it is. I am told that the slipperiness will go away the more I practice. Good motivation for more yoga!

This mat is exactly what I expected - solid, durable and heavy duty. It helps pad the most unlikely of surfaces. Yes, it does slip in the beginning, but I would imagine that's normal for following mandates of production and the residue of freshness being apparent. I've seen some suggestions to rub rock salt and oil to really work it through and kind of "tenderize" it for lack of a better word. But I just went with it, and washed it with the formula spray they provide for purchase. After six months of use, I don't much notice the slippage. Also, I've cleaned it from multiple scenarios, like getting sand on it (great substitute for salt) and needing to wipe it clean. Just be diligent and the mat will become exactly what you need it to be. I only wish I got the longer one!

My husband (6' 3") and I (5' 6") both love this mat. He especially loves it because of the larger size. I love it because of the thicker cushion when in knee poses. The only downsize is it is very heavy compared to most yoga mats. Would highly recommend for all tall people or anyone looking to have extra cushion on knees etc. in their practice.
