I like the style and color of the grey boots and was looking forward to a comfy waterproof hike in Zion National Park. I was also very pleased to see it available in 10.5 2A which is what I wear in New Balance running shoes, and Asics. I have narrow feet, especially the heel and here the heel was snug and comfortable. I am returning because length on me is too short, and the balance actually accentuates over-pronation (ankle turns inward and inadequate arch support). Even custom orthotics did not compensate for the balance issue. So if you have PTTD or low arch you may not have success with this boot.

Only hiker I could find that is the proper width for my 4E feet. Tried them in brown, then ordered through my podiatrist in grey - unfortunately after a few hours wear I find they're wearing painfully where ankle meets the rest of my leg. The ankle grooves coming up in the back are in a really awkward place, sewn too narrowly and at the wrong angle for me. Not sure what I'm going to do yet.

This shoe has been a favorite of mine in the past, but there are problems of inconsistency in its manufacture. I have owned a pair in 10 1/2 D for over a year, and recently ordered another in a wider width to wear with thicker socks in very cold weather. The EE arrived today and was narrower than my 10 1/2 D pair. Unusable even with thin socks. I ordered a 10 1/2 D at the same time from a different source and it fits perfectly. The same thing happened last year when I tried to get a pair in the alternate color.

I have had the weirdest time with this shoe. I have lots of New Balance shoes and normally wear an 8.5 2E. I have a very wide foot and prefer 4E if I can find it, so I was excited to see this shoe in a 4E. I ordered the 8.5 4E and it felt a little snug and my toes were right up against the end of the shoe. So I ordered the 9 4E and honestly, it felt shorter and tighter than the 8.5 4E. I thought it was a fluke and tried another pair of the 9 4E. Nope, still short and tight. I love the feel of the sole, cushy and firm at the same time, so now I'm waiting for the 9.5 4E to come back in stock. I've never worn a 9.5 in my life. I have no idea what is going on with this shoe, but don't be surprised if the sizing is really strange!

Fit runs short, ankle seems also to fit a bit tightly. Very flexible sole. Seems like a nice design, I will try exchanging for 1/2 size up. Sure hope it works as pretty much nobody else makes EE width hiking boots for under $280 that I can find.

I tried on two sizes of this shoe in EE. Everything fit perfectly for my wide foot except the top of the heel dug into my achilles tendon and after just a few steps it started hurting. I tried to stretch this part and it just wouldn't give enough for comfort. Was sad to return these. From the other reviews it looked like this wasn't a problem for others, so maybe I just got a lemon.

After several day hikes in these with the left boot feeling just odd, a careful comparison with the other revealed flaws in its construction. The upper panel on the inside of the left boot was sewn on too far forward (by about 1/4"). This throws the whole thing off and makes it feel like my foot won't sit right. I keep meaning to take pictures and send them to New Balance and hope they will replace them. The right boot feels great - just be sure to check the construction very carefully!

I loved the weight, style and fit of this shoe except the toe box was too short. Was not true to length. I am a frequent buyer of Naturalizer aerobic shoes and cross-trainers. Was disappointed that the same size did not fit in this hiking boot.

I love New Balance! The only athletic shoe that fits my 2AA width.

These hiking boots are perfectly comfortable and well-designed, except for one serious flaw. The shoe curves inward at the ankle in the back and causes pain. It's such a shame, because the foot part of the shoe could not be better. Come on, New Balance, get it right. You're very close.

I must have odd feet. Usually I wear a 6.5W or a European 37. This shoe was exactly that and did not seem short to me. I love the shoe, both look and fit, except that it comes only half way over my ankles which makes me wonder if they are supposed to be under the ankles or all the way over them. If I hiked in these I'd have bruised ankles. I'm still looking for waterproof hikers and Zappos has many others for me to try.

While I liked the style of this shoe, everyone was right, the sizes run small. I wear a 10.5, this was a 10.5 and it felt like a 9/5-10. New Balance, you need to do something about this. A 10 should be a 10. Fortunately Zappos had the brown in my size and on sale.

I expect a light hiker to have at least some support. These shoes have none. The insole is flimsy and flat, so if you buy these you'll want to add something like a Superfeet insert. The uppers are so flexible they offer no motion control, and the ankle cuff rides on my ankle bones. These went back, and I'm still hunting for a good light hiker.

New Balance sizing has become disappointingly inconsistent, which is why I am giving this 2 stars. This boot runs 1/2 - 1 size smaller than its label. Come on New Balance, you can do better!

The most comfortable boot right from the box. With bulky socks I required one full size larger and wider width. Not bulky like others, very light weight. I did have to replace them with new ones after 1 1/2 years because the stitching came apart where the little toe bends, I wore them for daily use. I have found them to be waterproof..walking through deep puddles and through wet grass. These are one of the best pair of hiking boots I have ever owned, aside from the stitching coming loose.

I ordered a women 12 Narrow. Too short too wide like a womens 10 EE. EU size says 44, Made in Vietnam. Sizing is terrible, inaccurate.

Very disappointed with this shoe. The whole thing felt very rigid and uncomfortable from the first moments. The sole is very stiff. The material is quite futuristic and almost like a porous shiny plastic. Very unattractive. I am normally a 9 or 9 1/2 but ordered a 10. My big toe was still touching the end.

This would be a great hiking shoe/boot. Not as high as some mid boots but plenty of support. Unfortunately, the "eyerow hardware" is set so deep into the cushioning that it is almost impossible to get a lace under it and when you finally wedge it in, you can't pull to tighten it. In addition, the tongue which is attached had way too much fabric and cushioning and it was wrinkled. There was no way to get it smooth enough to lace. Both these problems occurred on both sizes that I ordered so I had to return them both. I really wanted to like and keep this shoe but I just couldn't get it laced properly and smoothly. I have subsequently gotten another New Balance shoe that has the same support I hope, but is not as high.

The side of the left shoe was caved in and wouldn't pop out making the shoe uncomfortable. Also I have a full foot orthotic that did not fit. I have not had problems with other New Balance shoes.

I am so disappointed in these boots! I have worn New Balance 978 for years, but can no longer find them in my size...so decided to try these. They are in no way a replacement. The fit is different and quite painful. I'm not a vain person, but even I am embarrassed by the ugliness of these boots. Don't waste your money as I did.

I loved the look of this shoe and was very disappointed it didn't fit. It was too short and way too narrow. I ordered the size I always wear and this shoe wasn't even close to fitting me.
