I thought that since Ive had this coat for 7 years and am now trying to identify a replacement, Id share my insights in the hopes of Marmot updating this long standing design.
First, the good: this coat is luxuriously warm. The cozy fur lining and fluffy down got me through hours long hangouts on lake ice in below zero temps and through a record -53 degree day here in Minnesota. Theres no velcro, a godsend with scarves and gloves, and the storm flap is interior so no futzing. It has a femme shape and the interior pockets are cavernous. I have been very satisfied with it for these reasons.
Things Id change:
Wimpy zippers. Mine failed and I managed to repair by hand, but for a coat this size the zippers are laughable.
Tiny handwarmer pockets, few exterior pockets, not enough pocketspeople have mittens and car keys and phones. I dont want to open my coat in the cold to get to stuff. And Ive dropped things out of the shallow hand pockets. You could make better use of the inside space near the legs for some more drop in pockets.
Narrow shouldersat this point Id probably need to replace my medium with a large to fit heavy sweatersmy shirt size is usually XS-S.
The hood doesnt like to stay zipped to the coat.
Id be extra excited for built in carry straps ;)
And a final comment. The length is great for standing at bus stops, not so great for getting in a car. I think next time Id get the shorter version provided these issues were addressed.

This coat is perfect for our frigid Minnesota winters. Im happy I opted for a little longer version as it definitely adds extra comfort and warmth. The only thing Ive noticed there are lots of little feathers escaping, so hopefully, that ceases soon. Overall, a great coat, and good quality.

My winter mantra is "I can stay happy as long as I'm warm." I've owned the Montreaux coat for over a month and I am extremely happy with my purchase. It has kept me warm and cozy during some bitterly cold NJ January days and plain old cold days, too. I love the navy blue color and the soft inner lining around my neck. I am 5'2 and usually wear an XS, but purchased S after reading reviews about the coat fitting tightly. I have room to move when I wear a thick sweatshirt so purchasing up one size was good advice. My only complaint is that it occasionally loses its down, which surprised me since the coat is so new. Still, I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend the Montreaux coat to friends.

I love the jacket, warm, comfortable, has two inside pockets and wrist cuffs. Only two reasons I didn't give it 5 stars. When you take the fake fur off the hood (it is removable and personally I don't like it) the hood becomes small. If my hair is up in a pony tail it almost feels like the hood doesn't pull over my eyes, especially in windy snow/rain. The second reason is the jacket is shedding feathers, not really bad, but it is happening. I am hoping as I continue to wear it, that will stop. It is quite evident on the driver's seat in my car.

SIZE SMALL PETITE 5'2" 130# athletic build
Beautifully lined, nice cut but for me way too tight in the bust, zippers at the wrong angle for my wrists to be comfortable, and in the end I set it back.

As other reviews said, this zipper is a nightmare. But the rest of the coat is awesome, and I felt that the sizes were true I am 5 ft 2, 125lbs, small top with curvy bottom, and the XS fits great. Comfortable in freezing temps.

I have been reading reviews and considering this coat for a year now and decided to give it a try. I have not worn it outdoors in weather below 32 for an extended period of time but it SEEMS like it will be warm enough for me who is always cold with another layer if needed.
Regarding the fit: so happy I ordered large as there is now room for another layer and still is not big or sloppy looking. I don't know how the models pictured fit into a small but they are only posing and not actually wearing it in real time. Sleeve and coat length is perfect for my height. Hood also seems good, not to big although I have not needed that yet either.
Now for the most important part that many have complained about-the ZIPPER! It is exactly as reported it is not as good as it should be for the money being spent on this coat. It may get a little easier after many uses but not sure about that. It shouldn't be that hard to zip but it is most of the time. I'm hoping it will last and not break.
Shame on Marmot for not correcting this problem by now. Hard to believe a better zipper is not available for these coats which is one of the reasons I waited a whole year to buy one. For that reason I gave it only four stars or maybe three.

My warmest winter jacket. But a little tight in the chest, and too tight in the shoulders. Nice dark blue color.
The size L would be comfortable to me, and it is true that this model works too small.
I have other Marmot jackets and they fit me in size M.

I love my coat. Second one i have bought. It is the only coat that keeps me warm in sub zero temps. Couldn't imagine life without it. Both have had serious zipper issues or would be 5 stars.

We bought a small first for my daughter (she's usually between a small and medium); but the shoulder area is extremely tight - she can barely put the arms in easily (she does have wide shoulders); while the rest of the body and sleeves are fitted. It would be fine if she wears tshirt only underneath. We then returned and got a large one because of the shoulder. The shoulders this time are perfect with a sweater or hoodie underneath; the rest of the body is roomy and sleeves are bit long. However, she said it's so comfortable and easy to get in and out, and extremely lightweight, so she wants to keep this one. The zipper on this coat works fine for her. She got this jacket for where she is attending college in Michigan.

Despite this being a puffier silhouette, I found this to be WAY more flattering than the “nano” puff competition. It’s surprisingly lightweight, and warm enough, but I’ve been wearing a sweater fleece underneath on days in the 20s. Same comment as several others about the zipper - it’s really difficult for some unknown reason. So much so I really thought hard about returning, but decided I could take a few extra seconds every day to figure it out. And yes, this sheds a bit, and a few times when I’ve pulled one out, many many many more follow. I’ve started trying to just push them back in and resist the urge to pull. The hood is cute, but coat looks equally cute when I take it off. All in all, I’d recommend, just be prepared for the zipper battle at least every other time you put it on. I’m 5’3” 140lb, got the Medium, which leaves plenty of room for a shirt + sweater fleece underneath.

The Montreal is better for me. The shorter length is more flattering.
These coats have very temperamental zippers and the montreaux one was already too difficult. Having said that, it’s the warmest jacket I have ever had. It is my 2nd after 4 ish years of wearing but the zipper gave up.

I am 5'6' 120 pounds and Medium fit fine with layers. I loved almost everything about the coat, especially the warm cuffs and the three zippers pocket. An inside pocket is essential for travel and this had both a drop in and a zippered one. What I did not like is that is is a coat. A car coat length works best for me and on the 5'10' model that is what it appeared. I learned my lesson and will check for precise length in the future. I would recommend for someone looking for a COAT.

I have the Montreal coat by Marmot in xs and it fits perfectly, but this one is too big. The quality seems great, soft, cozy, great warm hood, but just looks way too big on me. For ref I’m 5’4” and 110lbs. If it came in xxs I’d buy it. Otherwise, a lovely coat for cold temps.

I am 118 pounds, not a weight-lifter and a 36B/C chest and the medium was too tight in the chest and shoulders. I am debating whether to order a large as I know it will fit in the chest and shoulders but likely be baggy around the middle. Love the fleece inside and the hood but am disappointed in the overall fit.

The description paragraph states here that the coat is filled with goose down. However, upon arrival 2 days ago, the label clearly says DUCK down. They are different, and I worried about the warmth of the coat since goose down is supposedly able to loft better than the duck version. That said, I wore the coat last night for a 40 minute walk in 20 degree weather, and I was toasty warm!
I would definitely suggest sizing up. I am 5'7", 135 lbs, and small framed. I usually wear a size 8-10, and wear a size small or medium in several other coat brands, depending on the brand. However, I ordered a size medium for this coat, and it was too tight in the entire chest to abdomen area - wierd. So I exchanged it for a size Large, which fit perfectly. It hits me right at the knee.

I really liked the style and fit of the coat. I would have kept it except the zipper didn't work. Maybe it was it was just a fluke.

There's a lot to like about this coat: fabric is soft, long sleeves with fleece cuffs that are much more comfortable than restrictive ordinary cuffs, the length makes it warmer and cozy, the hood, although I couldn't figure out how to tighten it. The problem was mostly with the way it looks in the back…the stitching makes it unattractive at the back waist area on me. I decided to try the Montreal, which is a few inches shorter, but with narrower stitching panels in the middle. The Montreal arrived today and it's perfect: the slight style difference works better for me.

Runs a little small. I loved the look and feel, but since there were no snap closures I returned it.

I am 5’11” - This is one of the first coats I’ve ever owned that is actually long enough for me. I travel a lot for work and this coat compresses down nicely for travel and is still able to keep me warm in those crazy North East winters. The only thing that keeps this coat from getting a perfect rating from me is the sleeve length. The sleeves aren’t so short that it detracts from all the other great features, but they’re just short enough for a tall woman like me to find them annoying. (Not noticeable by the rest of the world when I’m wearing, though)

The coat seemed well-designed, light, and super warm, but I was looking for something a bit longer and with a more flattering silhouette. I'm 5'1" and 100lbs, and the Small landed just below my knees. Over a thin layer it was a comfortable but snug fit, but I wasn't thrilled with the "sausage" look as my son described it. Overall, great quality and features for the price, but just not the look I was going for.

I need a long parka to take to the Arctic Circle in February so did research on what features work best in extreme cold & also wouldn't be overkill for standard winter weather in NYC (if there is 'standard' weather anywhere on earth anymore).
I tried on a Canada Goose long parka but found it too fitted around the waist to be comfortable. Marmot parkas rate high on extreme cold features so I tried on the Montreaux model. It too is more fitted than I would like so I had to get an XXL to allow me to wear a zip up fleece & fleece vest under it. An advantage of the bigger size is that the coat covers my knees so will overlap the gaiters on my Arctic boots. I'm 5'4" & 140 lbs.
Now that long parkas are apparently quite fitted through the waist, I recommend ordering a size up if you plan on wearing layers under it.
