I RARELY write reviews but this coat is so unbelievably warm and superior in quality, I felt compelled to. I bought this after extensive research comparing Marmot, Patagonia, Canada Goose and Arcyterx. I wore it today in treacherous -30 Minnesota weather and it kept me warm! I am 5'8 and it is knee length, and the fleece lined interior/pockets are cozy. The hoody is large and almost covers the eyes but keeps the head warm. It runs small at the bust and shoulders (buy one size up) and is rather shapeless - like wearing a sleeping bag (wish the waist were cinched!) - but at these brutal temps, comfort beats style any day! You will not regret buying it. WELL WORTH THE PRICE TAG!

I spent two weeks researching long, down coats from different outdoor/sporting companies and this coat had the best reviews. I am SO happy I chose this one! It is incredibly warm- it feels like you're in a sleeping bag. I love that the wrists are lined with fleece so that cold air doesn't come up your sleeves (a frequent complaint in reviews of other companies' coats). I also love the length- it goes down to my knees and no cold air comes up into my chest area like it did with my old waist-length coat. It has 2 really large pockets in the front that are perfect for wallets, phones, gloves, etc. and there are also 2 decent-sized pockets on the inside as well. The hood fits nicely and has a bungee string to adjust it (though I haven't done that yet). I'm 5'5" 135lbs and the Medium fits great. It's tailored enough to show you have a figure but still bulky enough to feel warm and snug. Also Zappos' free next-day shipping was the icing on the cake. It arrived just in time for me to wear it to Buffalo for a Bill's game!

This purchase was so disappointing. I bought it hoping it would be warm enough for the windchill sweeping Chicago this thanksgiving. I wore it today with a long underwear top and sweater. I was very cold which surprised me since the reviews were so positive. It is -2 today and I just ordered an Arcteryx Patera Parka. It keep out the wind and has down. More money but I'll do anything to be warm.

Wanted to add that the hood DOES have a drawstring and is adjustable. Drawstrings are hidden in the two special slits in the collar up front. Overall, I found the hood very adjustable, it fit my head nicely and definitely stayed on in Chicago winds!

I've lived in MN for 15 years and have been cold and uncomfortable for every single one of them. I have purchased several expensive brands over the years hoping for some relief. The warmest thus far had been a pricey Northface, but it still had flaws: wind went up the sleeves and up the bottom, the material and zipper at the neck were incredibly stiff and uncomfortable, and it was heavy and bulky. I'm so excited about this Marmot. It is lightweight, looks great, and feels soft and comfortable to the touch. I appreciate the soft fleece around the neck, around the wrists, and in the pockets, which not only feel great, but also helps to further keep out the cold. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I might be looking forward to winter for the first time since moving here. When considering size, I felt it ran a little small. I'm 5'7", 138 lbs, and typically wear a size 6. I first purchased a Small, but it was tight even without a sweater/sweatshirt. I was afraid to size up since I didn't want to look like I was drowning, but I exchanged for a Medium. It looks fantastic.

I recently purchased this coat as I live in NYC and my lighter down coat from TJ MAxx just wasn't cutting it! I am soooo happy with my purchase! The coat keeps me so warm and it is very stylish. The hood is filled with down so your head, neck and ears stay warm! The fur trim is a nice touch as well. I am 5'6 and weight about 115, I ordered the XS black and it fits so perfectly and comes to my knees. I couldn't wait to wear this coat and now I don't mind going out in the cold, I actually look forward to it all bundled up in my new Marmot coat! The money is well worth it. Great quality. The inside of the coat, near the face area, is a very soft fabric as is the inside of the pockets. Can't say enough good things about this! If I could, I would order another coat in a separate color since I love it so much.

I am 5'11", 122 lb, 36B...tall and thin. I can never find a down coat that doesn't look like a Christmas tree on me (fits at the top and splays out as it goes down). This coat is the best I have found ever. I ordered both a S and M to compare. I received a Small in this coat (Montreaux) and a Medium in a different coat (Montreal). The only difference in the 2 coats was that the Montreal was about 2" shorter and a had wonderful zipper (10 out of 10). Zappos was great and I sent both back and started over, with the hopes that if I wanted the Small, it would have a better zipper. In fact, it did. The second pair of coats I give the zippers a 5 out of 10. Why Marmont can't put in a well functioning zipper is beyond me. That said, everything else about the coat is a 10, so I'll deal. I chose the Medium. Sleeves were an inch or more longer, as was the length. The Medium falls just below my wrist bone (I have long arms). The Small was just above my wrist bone. The Medium falls about 1-2" above my knee. Neither flared out like Christmas tree. In fact, the Medium was not too much wider than the Small, but gave much more room in the chest area. I can wear the Medium with a shirt and sweatshirt underneath. I could get away with a Small, but not in the bust with a sweater and have it be comfortable. I love this coat. Especially because I have 2 white, small, long haired dogs, one of which I have to carry for part of our daily walks. The hair does not stick to the coat! Yay. Also noticeable was that the hood covers more of my head/face in the medium...almost too much with the fur. Makes visibility a bit limited, but better than too small. The Small hood was perfect with the fur Regarding warmth, it will be fine all winter. Regarding warmth, I'll make around the block at 20 degrees with wind (live in PA). I've already walked in light rain and it dries quickly and was fine. I am super happy with this coat.

I am a 57 year old, 5’6” with a 30 inch inseam. I generally wear a size 10 and ordered the XL after reading the reviews (plus I tried on a L in the Montreal coat and couldn’t zip it). This coat is fantastic! Falls just below my kneecap. I wore it out today: 28 degrees but feels like 12. 25-30 mph winds, snow on the ground. I had on a cotton turtleneck and a yoga jacket under the coat and was toasty. I’ve been an LLBean coat person for years and am so glad I own this coat. Well-made, warm and good looking. A winner!

I measure a large, but sent it back and got extra large to fit large sweaters. I'm 5'4" and it's lower than the knee but not at the calf. Great quality.

I did go up a size as other reviewers mentioned. I am 5’ 3” and weigh 116 lbs and bought a medium. If fits so well and I absolutely love this coat. It is so warm and comfy and has passed the test so far in single degree temps. I would highly recommend this coat!

I LOVE THIS COAT!!! It is super warm, the fleece lining is very soft, and I really love the coat's navy color. I'm quite tall (5'10") and was very happy that the XL was the length I wanted - hit just above the knee - while the torso fit wasn't too big (I'm a 12-14). It's not quite cold enough to wear it here where I live, but now I'm not dreading winter as I usually do.

I did not buy coat on this site but want to leave my review here. I own at least a dozen winter coats. This is my to go coat when it is very cold. Yes, it's not pretty but who cares about pretty when there is minus something outside? It's not bulky, it's not heavy, it's extremely well made, it's very-very warm and long enough to cover (my) knees. The fabric is very soft (unlike many down coats) and does not make any noise. And it does not shed at all (I've had it for 7 years and had not problem). I was bigger before and don't use my larger coat often (wore it a football game with few layers under in January and was one of the few who didn't freeze in 9F with gusty wind). I'm getting another one, only one size down even though I lost 3 sizes. The chest is little tight and I have athletic built (wide shoulders, wide hips). My next coat will be XL so I can fit a thick fleece and have little more space (the tighter the jacket the faster you get cold). I'm 5'7", 150 lbs, 36DD. And final huge plus is that Marmot has lifetime guarantee (outside of regular wear and tear). It's pricey but well worth it.

This coat is AMAZING! My husband and I take walks every night year-round and in the winter time I'm always freezing cold. We live in Atlanta so this coat is a little overkill for daytime but I knew I'd get a ton of use out of it at night and when we take trips to colder climates. It's fluffy, warm and amazingly soft. I keep wanting to pet it. :) I am 5'8", 135lbs and got the size medium. It is rather form fitting but still comfortable - you can still tell you have a female figure in this thing! The sleeves are also nice and long. I have long arms and the sleeves still go a ways past my wrists. The insides of the cuffs are lined with super a soft velvety material. So is the inside around the torso. The top of the collar also has this nice lining. This coat beats my old North Face Transit coat hands down.

I have had this coat for about a month, and so far I love it. I ordered the black in XS. I am 5'7" and the coat hits me just at my knee cap, maybe slightly above. Another reviewer mentioned that this coat is actually brown, not a true black. When I first tried it on in the house, I thought the same thing. This looks like a very dark brown in the lighting in my hallway and bathroom. But almost anywhere else it really does look black. And I can only really see the brownish look to it if I am looking up close, like holding the coat an inch away from my face. So, I would say do not be concerned about the color. It is black. I wanted to wait a while before writing this review so I could test out the coat in real cold weather. Our winters are about 40's-teens, and dipping down into single digits and below during the day is rare, but can happen. So far I have worn this coat in 40's down into the single digits with wind, and I have been toasty warm. I am a skinny girl who gets cold if it is below 75°. Winter makes me miserable, so I needed a really good coat. This one has been great so far, and I have not had any major issues with feathers coming out. I think I have seen one or two so far. This coat is pretty lightweight (but not as light as the Patagonia Down With It Parka, which I bought first, but then returned because it was ridiculously thin), but it still keeps you very warm. And since I got the XS, it has a very flattering fitted look to it. It will limit the amount of layers you can wear underneath though. With a shirt, sweater, and scarf it is a little tight. So if you need to wear bulky sweaters and turtlenecks and more, forget it. Go up a size definitely. I bought this to stay warm while looking cute, so if I need to wear a bunch of bulky stuff, I will put on my Land's End coat, which is roomier (but also not as flattering as this). I do have two negatives. This zipper is hard to get started. Sometimes I can get it on the first try, but most times I have to fiddle with it for a while. Pushing it up from the bottom helps. It is hard to get the hood to stay on. There is no draw string to help with that. I zipped the fur trim off, because I hate those things, but I am sure keeping it on would help the hood to stay on my head. Again, this is me choosing style over function, but I think they need to redesign the hood so it is deeper plus has a draw string, that way it can stay on without the fur trim. But I had spent hours online researching long very warm coats that weren't astronomically expensive. So even with those two issues, I am very happy with my purchase, and would highly recommend it.

I was extremely excited to try the Marmot coat, having read reviews for warmth, as I live in Minnesota, US, and we regularly get temperatures between -30°F and -50°F in the winter. Initially, I ordered an XL, according to the chat and my Size 14-16, weight 200, 5’8”, chest 38F. I ordered Berry Wine, which looked like a lovely, bright reddish pink. The coat came. It is, generously, burgundy, veering toward maroon. I do not like burgundy because I have broken capillaries and a ruddy skin tone, anyway. I had just passed on the proliferation burgundy Christmas cards that come out every year. Also, it did not fit at all. It fit my mother who is 5‘3“ and 125 pounds and usually a size small to medium. By the time it arrived I already anticipated the ill fit, having read more reviews, and had reordered the “Berry Wine” in an XXL, too. I wish I had held off so I could get another color. I was amazed when the XXL that it fit very well! It is actually a very beautifully made coat, and so comfortable and soft, and I had been worried I wouldn’t get to own one of these. When I received it it was just before the holiday and I wanted to buy presents for others but I figured I should re-order in Arctic Navy before they were gone. In the ads, it appeared to be a French blue that was a bit lighter than a royal blue. I definitely did not want the midnight blue, which seemed almost black, because I love bright colors. I just received it, and it is exactly the color of Midnight Blue in the ads, so a true, dark Navy. So now I have two very warm, very extremely soft and comfortable dark coats. I am very grateful to have such a warm coat but I wish I would’ve known they were more the standard winter colors, as I would have gone with a pastel or crocodile. And I like dark green much better than dark blue or red so that very limited Nori color would have been ideal (it was gone in my size by the time I received the first coat). I also paid extra for these colors. Since they look very like the “purple” and the midnight navy, I don’t know if these are not true to color or if I received the wrong colors. I have known other companies to make two different shades of each color and then swap them as the start gets low but I don’t know...just a guess. I did return the XL in berry wine and I have not heard anything about a refund yet, so I am a bit concerned, because there are reports with the Better Business Bureau and trust pilot about people not getting their money back on returns, from this company. If I had known that, I would have paid the extra $75 to order it from Amazon, as I have had no problems with their return policy. I absolutely love the Marmot Montreax design. It really feels like you’re surrounded by a cloud of warmth. And like when you bring a pillow with you in the car, when you lean back. I think I will keep both coats because neither of them go well with everything I have so but both go, somewhat, with most things. A regular primary color or bright color would’ve been best for me, As I’m an UGG collector and prefer the brights. I sort of compare those coat to the ugg boots...Very plush soft and comfy, and cute but casual and a bit poofy. Which to me is just great I was extremely excited to try the Marmot coat, having read reviews for warmth, as I live in Minnesota, US, and we regularly get temperatures between -30°F and -50°F in the winter. I do love the Montreax design, as an UGG boot collector, because they are a great pairing. They are extremely warm, plush and soft, cute but casual and a bit poofy. That’s why I keep an extra dress coat and boots, for special occasions. Brights would have gone with my boot collection better but, between the two coats, they should go with most things, so I’m keeping them both. Also because they both fit me and I I’m sure I will wear them all the time and I’m sure I will beat on them. This is the only down/puffer coat I’ve ever had that had a hood fit for a person and not one of those large headed space aliens. I only wish they showed the colors more accurately, and would change the sizing. They are notorious for running at least a full size small. I have lived in both Minneapolis and Chicago and I think I know why Minnesotans have reviewed it better than some Chicagoans. I think it’s because it’s not the greatest windbreaker...you need more of a windproof material in Chicago. In Minnesota, I’ve stayed warm down to -20°F so far, and we will see how things progress. I have a huge wish that Marmot would make an ankle length 700 or higher fill coat! I would buy one right now! Thank goodness for warm over the knee boots, as the Montreaux hits me just below the knee. Colors aside, this is a solid “real winter” coat. Just wish it could be worry-free to order & return. I do recommend it, but know the colors are darker in person & if you have a bust, you will want to order a size up. Trust me!

Very well made coat with nice details. Fleece lined, hood that will stay up and on that you can also see out of, fur trim zips off as does the hood, 2 inside pockets - one zippered, one deep for a phone. Ordered a medium (5"5 and 130 lbs, no chest) and it fits nicely with room for layering and hits me just below the kneecap. It is definitely a warm weight coat and I have no concerns about wearing it and being cold in 20 degree weather without layers and -20 degree weather with layers. As other reviewers have said, it is not the most flattering jacket nor it is unflattering. The back is cut more attractively than the front. Let's just say that is not going to look as cute and slimming on you as a nicely cut mid or lightweight long down coat but it doesn't look like a sleeping bag either. I'm not sure that a flattering, long, heavyweight down coat actually exists unless you are 6' tall and 110 lbs. Researched coats extensively to replace an old EB and this and the exact same EB coat were the best options I could find. Think I'm keeping this one. Ordered it in navy and pleased with the color - it's a nice shade that does not at all resemble school uniform blue.

Just got this coat, a bit late to winter test it here in Alaska. Will say that it fits well and looks like it will be warm, but I won't know for sure until next year. Regarding the fit: I took the advice of many reviewers here and sized up and am so glad I did. Definitely the bust area would have been too snug for my liking as I often wear hoodies or vests and need room for those. I'm 5'4" and 135 pounds and the large is clearly the right size for me even though I typically buy a medium in coats. Chose the green because it was on sale for a killer price; worried I might not care for it as I'm a black coat girl, but it's a very nice, rich color that I do like. It'll be good to have a little variety in my coats for a change. Also, I hate fake ruffs, but this one is actually rather attractive so I might just leave it on. Overall, I'm thrilled with this coat, especially for what I paid for it.

I purchased this to wear to work on the coldest winter days because I have a long walk from my parking spot into my building. I like the option to unzip the coat from the bottom while driving (maybe people who are having trouble with the zipper don't understand the 2-way feature?). I am 5'4" and always debate between XS and S in most clothing. I got the S and I can comfortably wear a layer underneath (such as a sweater, blazer or jean jacket). It comes to the top of my knee caps, which might be a little long, but the Montreal was too short for what I was looking for. I love the green color. Of note, the interior of the hood is black, not green, but that doesn't really show while wearing. I like the faux fur on the hood (which is removable) and I like the shape of the hood itself (also removable). It is rather puffy and almost feels like I'm cozied up in a sleeping bag, but that's what I wanted. At the same time has a nice little bit of shape to it.

My last winter coat was the same one in black. This coat has kept me warm and cozy through the winters in Chicago so when it was time for a new winter coat I bought the same one in green. Great coat! Runs a wee bit smaller. My old one was a medium and the zipper failed due to being so snug on me. Bought a large this time and so far so good.

My clay colored Montreau that I have loved for several years became stained and I began to look for another coat and just could not find one that I liked equally as well. I had a thought, 'maybe I can find a used one' not realizing that Marmot still makes them. and was absolutely thrilled to find That they did! I ordered my second one and it was the same quality! The pocket fabric is decent, it doesn't snag my hands when they're dry. The zipper was it a little bit better on the old coat, but it was still better than the one on the Montreal coat.

This coat is perfect! I needed a new winter coat that would be super warm standing around outside while the kids play in the winter. My husband found this one for me and it is amazing. It is lightweight, but super warm. I am 5' 1" and 98 lbs. The XS fits well, but is definitely slim fitting. I don't like to wear bulky sweaters, but if I did I would size up. The length comes just below my knees and the sleeves are not too long. I tried the black and the navy, but kept the black because the "fur" on the hood was nicer looking. I really wanted the sea fog color, but knew it would get dirty quickly and be harder to keep nice looking. The jacket has two outside pockets and two inside pockets as well and the body is lined in fuzzy fabric which makes it feel so soft. The coat just feels cuddly when I wear it and makes it so much nicer to stand around outside in cold and windy weather. I usually wear just a long sleeve t-shirt or thin sweater and I'm not cold!

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
This is a beautiful coat for sure. It does run small, though. I am 5"4' about 128 pounds. I am slim in the hips and have a bust measurement of about 36/37". The coat does close but it flattens my chest. Though that is mostly OK, I decided to exchange the medium for a large. I have yet to try the large, so I don't know if it will look OK. The coat is well made and appears to be very warm (I have not yet worn it outside in the cold). It has a great zipper, and perfectly placed pockets (other reviewers said they were low.) The cut of the coat is slim through the body, which is good as I did not feel stuffed into a sleeping bag. There is nothing flimsy about this coat. If you are looking for a coat you can scrunch down into a small package, this would not be the one to buy. If warmth and coverage are your requirements, I would not hesitate to purchase this, though. The hood is deep and insulated. The fur trim comes off. I'm not that much into fur trim so that's a big plus. The navy color is nice. This is a substantial coat and a quality item. I may update when I get to try on the large.
